We DID NOT expect this in DELHI 🇮🇳 | Hauz Khas Village
It's easy to think of India's capital New Delhi as a massive concrete jungle. Most foreigners impressions of the city is that it's chaotic and dirty. Plenty of those areas do exist in Delhi but there's also plenty of nice, clean and peaceful areas.
Haus Khas Social was a complete culture shock. It was almost the opposite what we had been experiencing the first few days in India. Modern... neon... cocktails... and hip hop!
Hauz Khas is famous for it's Momos and quirky hipster nightlife...

No, it's not for good luck for them. It is to show affection to the child without transfering their germs to the kid. In ancient India people had a lot of do's and don'ts about touching etc. Most things were done in a way to avoid contact with people you didn't know closely. Even our greeting Namaste is designed to show respect while keeping your hands to yourself. So this gesture is a leftover remnant of an old custom.

They don’t go for face or hand and kiss.if asked you will hear answer as “It’s kissing because she/he is lovable”, because everyone (majority) follow parents without questioning here. Mom , dad or mainly our grandparents do that to us when we were kids.. also at a very young age like new born or below 1,1.5 yr everyone is restricted to go and kiss the kid for hygiene as well as rashes issues so they use this gesture to show their love grabbing the cheek with soft hands....

My mom came to America first time, we took her to some place that happened to have a lot of tiny kids. She couldn’t control herself and started doing that cheek to kiss thingy, we tried to tell her that may not be ok here, but she still went around, did an air-pinch of the cheeks and kissed every kid there. Fortunately people saw her innocence and delight and didn’t mind it at all.
