- Low Boost? High EGT's? Excess smoke? Poor Performance?
New or old parts can be affected. Even the best of the best can install something slightly off and cause a small exhaust leak. That can cause a big problem.
FIX 7.3 Boost and Exhaust leaks: • 7.3 Powerstroke Boosts...
FIX 6.0 Exhaust leaks: • Turbo Up Pipe Installa...
so how do you do this test when you have a manual transmission? Can't operate the gas an the brake and the clutch all at the same time
Two people bro, have the wifey hold the break!
Hey Guys Thankx! Iwas just getting smoke down low n little lag exactyl everthing you said was FACT ..i was runnin down all sorts stuff this VID came out and i did all ya ssaid BAM it was all fixed i got about 4turn outa my back turbo clamp ..Ford clamp and new from when i put in Ya guys KC stage 2 I love!!!! WHEEEE.anyway she needs injectors to be happy ..we talked already...anyway THANK s alot !Maybe ill get some MPG now! Talk to ya guys soon when i be l getting some injectors For the Excursion... BTy? is this stick shift dude go away? l.ol
have about 2thous on the install ..tighened ll the cac tubes ect just little turns and no soot under hood....sooo there ya go
just put a HE300VG on my 6.7 Cummins and had to go over my install & discovered once mounting the turbo the to exhaust manifold' the downpipe & turbo elbow v-clamps needed tighting alot more' probably because of the mounting position may have loosen and twisted the piping a little bit, I had started the truck for the first time since intial install and all I smelt was exhaust then puffs of vapor like exhaust out of the tail-pipe and an air leak sound, but once I re-tightened the downpipe and turbo everything was back normal sounding and boost registration.
I have an issue with white smoke on startup, then it starts to go away till i hit the acceleration. The exhaust will birn your eyes.
My RPMs wont really get over 2,000.
No check light
Changed injectors
Im at a loss with the ol beast 7.3
On a modern heavy truck it's much more difficult to find, a meter is helpful if you can't access a smoke machine.
Smokes machines often do not provide the pressure necessary to see the leaks. Gotta put a heavy load on the engine quickly. You can also put your phone on record with the flashlight on and stick your arm in there if there is little space.
As I smoker , I kept blowing smoke through with my phone recording. Found the leak easy . Painting with soapy water is good too, you can normally see the bubbles.
@@reckitralph1802 i never clarified, i bought a carbon monoxide meter. Diesels don't give off a lot of CO but a hundred dollar meter can pickup trace amounts, showing a couple ppm has been very helpful for me. SO2 meters are expensive and with clean exhausts I'm not sure how well it would work anyway.
Very nice video.
I got a 97 stock 7.3
Want to get a bigger /better turbo, what do you recommend. Please let me know
Do you plan on going bigger on injectors? if so, what size?
@@KCTURBOS im planning on getting a bigger and better turbo too but I want to go with 160cc injectors so wat turbo will go good with that?
@@cyzarncerkde6485 Go with the KC300x Stage 2 turbo. kcturbos.com/collections/7-3-complete-turbos/products/kc300x-63-73-7-3-powerstroke-94-98-t
Will a broken manifold bolt kill a turbo
Quick question, I have 07’ 6.0. There’s a whine at idle, when I accelerate, whine goes away, if I unplug VGT actuator whine goes away, plug it back in whine comes back. Turbo vanes show no signs of contact with exhaust wheel. Started making whine after a hard pull up a hill with toy hauler. Exhaust leak? Cracked Y-pipe? I can’t the problem.
It sound like you have a 10 blade turbine wheel in your 07. If you would like, you can shoot an email on over to sales@kcturbos.com and send us a video of the whiling and we can better assist you.
What ever happened man i believe i might be having the same issue?
@lnc23 yeah me too on my 6.7. I did try unplugging anything though
I think I have a boost leek 06 6.0 only when hot is this possible everything looks tight
a visual inspection is not enough to verify if a boost leak is present in your system. When parts heat up they expand, and you definitely could have a temperature induced boost leak.
My truck smokes like that with even hitting the gas when it idles any help? Very low boost too
Change your air filter
Thank you
What if my intercooler pipe boots have oil in it with dirt is that a sign of exhaust leak ?
Blow by
Don’t worry about it it’s just blown turbo seals and 6.0 do it all the time
How can I do that with a stick shift? I have an 06 6.0
You cant really use this method unless you have a gopro and a light mounted under the hood. So you can try this: get a white towel and wrap the connection points that you want to test, maybe use a zip tie to hold it in place. Then go do a couple foot to the floor from a stop. Then check the towel after for any leaking.
ive only got two feet need a third guy to work the clutch
Lol.
Emergency brake 😂
So the bit you didn't even mention was the main bit. Are you looking to see where smoke comes from when you do this?
That is correct, where there is there is a leak. Find the source, and make necessary adjustments to re-fit the part/connection. Often times just tightening the clamp will not fix the underlying issue. This video goes into more details of what a fix like that might look like: ua-cam.com/video/flV24cxn1vY/v-deo.html
Volume cut out halfway through the video could barely hear the end
Yeah so what if you have a manual 🤔
Best way is to put a flash light and a go pro under the hood. Either that or get it on a lift.
Neutral...?
@@chrislagasse3722 No sir, you need to have a load on the engine. After the Flash light and Go pro is set up, go do a couple of wide open throttle pulls.
should rename the video: How to kill your automatic transmission
The test here is completely safe. The job of the torque converter is slip. If you held your foot down for 1-2 mins straight you may burn up your TC, but that would never be necessary for this test.
it os important to know the limitations of your convertor.
It doesn’t have a gas pedal! It’s a diesel 😆
for the full throttle power rbake test always be the guy in the cab running the throttle, the other guy is likely to get hurt or worse
We all have a buddy that will do pretty much anything after 12 or so busch lattes! But seriously, we have not ever had a someone get hurt or an issue with this test.
@@KCTURBOS I would use the guy that shows up with bud lites
Well this was useless for me... I'm not gay so I dont have an automatic... lol but really I have a 5 speed truck so I cant load it up like that to check for leaks
Automatics shift faster and win races. I guess every pro out there is gay...
@@KCTURBOS I didnt know everyone drove race cars for daily drivers.... not to mention there are 7 second drag cars that still know how to row gears, I bought a diesel for a work truck, I have a mustang that will be finished one day but it's a toy not a race car so it to will have a manual transmission.
@@centraltexasfoxbodies No doubt, manuals are fun to drive. But for work trucks, they are very impractical, with going from job to job or sitting in traffic. Automatic Daily drivers are also much more fuel efficient, the turbos spool up faster and are much faster in general. You say Automatic guys are "gay" but who is the one playing with a stick all day?
@@KCTURBOS haha this guy plays with sticks... I mean the zf5 in an obs is far superior than the e4od unless you spend big money on them and that's not somthing I'm willing to do, and as far as my daily driver goes... nobody will ever know if the automatic version gets better fuel mileage as an automatic wasnt an option in the version that I own. Autos are faster in every sense I was only joking about them being gay but in a diesel a manual transmission is the only way to go, I mean they have just recently came out with autos in semi trucks... so autos cant be the best route for everything.
@@centraltexasfoxbodies haha gotem! to be fair, you can still do a brake stand in a manual truck. You just put your truck in high idle and have someone help you with the clutch. Maybe have the person under the hood stand to the side though. Where there is a will there is a way sir!
