    It's because at "slow" speed they have the same gliding ratio, but I'm sure if u did an race at 100mph or more, JS3 will crush you. This his where all the new sailplane perform the most, at high speed. They are made for race, that mean they are better as the old glider for high speed fly. Good video mate

    • @PureGlide
      @PureGlide  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah absolutely I would be smoked :) and unreality at slower speeds they pull away too. Brett’s weaving ridge flying didn’t help in this video :)

    That dive at 1:42 is just epic. I got that feeling just watching. 😍

    Just like sailboat racing! When you need just 1/4 knot more speed to win... Great video Tim! Thank you!

    You can have fun with old gliders . I have an old club class glider and enjoyed 1,000 flight hours with it .

    • @PureGlide
      @PureGlide  2 роки тому

      Yeah you can have fun in any glider! It's all just a matter of how far away from the airfield you will land out :)

      @jme104 2 роки тому

      @@PureGlide I landed 24 times in a field but for the last 20+ years, I didn't made any outlanding alltough I made 15,000 km cross country . You have to stay high and fly cautiously .

    How do you prevent collisions when ridge soaring? Do you rely on flarm solely when coming around an edge?

    • @PureGlide
      @PureGlide  Рік тому +2

      Not completely, need to give all the corners a wide birth incase someone is coming the other way… saying that we have pretty good situational awareness of where other gliders are quite often. People give position reports and most gliders stick to the main part of the ridge, high

    What do you think of The JS4 Rengeti? I wonder what an experienced pilot might think of it.
    I haven't spotted much of a difference to JS3

    That looked like a lot of fun! How much G do you experience in a plane like that?

    • @PureGlide
      @PureGlide  3 роки тому

      Hi I think it's about 3G max usually at a guess, the G limits for my glider are +5.3 and -2.65

    • @mcbrite
      @mcbrite 3 роки тому

      @@PureGlide Interesting! While we paragliders don't have negative g, the positive G in a Spiral dive are roughly 3g as well! Catching up on your past videos... :)

    What is wind speed at the altitudes you're flying?

    Best is when you wax a modern glider in a contest standing....despite their "superior" performance. 😭

  • @MrJdsenior
    @MrJdsenior 3 роки тому +1

    Not that surprising. High performance gliders were pretty well optimized even that far back.
    I would think materials would be the largest difference, say carbon vs. glass.

    • @PureGlide
      @PureGlide  3 роки тому

      Yeah especially when you want to do a repair, glass is easier!

    • @MrJdsenior
      @MrJdsenior 3 роки тому

      @@PureGlide Yes, I was a Long EZ builder, actually, so I'm pretty familiar with glassing. I haven't actually done any work with graphite. We bought the kevlar engine covers, because we heard it was pretty hard to work with, too.
