  • This film starts with looking at the history of the Transit since its launch in 1965, relating it to news events of the period. It then switches to a closer look at the 1978 model which includes such creature comforts for the driver as adjustable seats, an ashtray and a radio. The "rugged suspension" is demonstrated on its use by a farm manager going about various tasks on his estate.

    What an excellent film, being 50 I've seen all the transits featured on British roads, in fact they are so sturdy and reliable that you often see different models on the road together, they are up there with the Mini and Land Rover as one of the UK's best motoring achievements, and the era that Ford always got the models right.👍🏻 Thank you for sharing this iconic film.

      The Transit driver went across those fields to tell him the chain was on the wrong way round.

      1977 Ford Fiesta In gold paint colour - Strange ! - I think this Transit at the end of this video was scrapped sometime and the original number plate was then sold on as a private plate for the "WAR" part ? - Shame as it was a nice van.

      Just goes to show doesn’t it. Give our transit to a paki and they will preserve it to this day.

    93 out of 100 Ford Transits built since 1965 are still on the job!
    When Galar needs a better idea...(click)...Ford puts it on wheels.

    That guy sawing the tree was taking unnecessary risk ie no helmet no visor no ear defenders etc, with a chainsaw, all it takes is for the blade to hit a knot in the wood, and it can kickback, bouncing into the users limbs.

    What's your concept on the Pearson Market Ford Transit 78 ditching the V4 Essex and Cologne engines and having unleaded petrol engines instead?

    Its funny how the marketing departments of these companies, can even try to make negatives a positive :-) While I am no Transit disliker they were pretty primitive machines at this stage and really no more the re-bodied mk1's and things like a ash tray are hard additions to be called luxuries :-)

      This was the 1970s, things were bleak. People used to get excited about wing mirrors. If your car had an inside boot release, that was enough to give you a stroke (and it was probably a tinny Japanese car)!

      @@RoadCone411 It these most basic models that fascinate me as they are the ones that least survive to this day. I'd love to drive in a 70's fiesta or escort popular 🙂

      The mk4 and 5 was still based on the basic '65 floor chassis pan.

      @@richardrichard5409 The mk5?! But the bonnet is so much smaller and steeper than a mk1 or 2?

      @richardrichard5409 Рік тому +3

      @@anticat900, yes, it surprises many people, the 'top' is reskinned and restyled but, essentially nailed on top of the original chassis/pan with modifications for different front suspension etc, mk1 having dead front beam. I was in Ford research and development before retirement😎
