I agree! I got bored of the whole will they won't they of Fran and Maxwell, not to mention that he was a boring character, and only kept watching because Niles and CC were awesome
Agree! They are what makes the show so good💛 Fran is a marvellous character but I wouldn't watch it without C.C. and Niles. It's funny, I used to think Fran and Max were the reason I loved the show but it was these two!
And sometimes, that's pretty obvious. I do wish she had had better repartee, though. For a relationship like that, they should both be witty. I sometimes think that all her mooning over Max was just her way of getting him...did you ever notice how she can flip in the blink of an eye from completely melting down because Max is with Fran, or something new has happened between Max and Fran, to sparring with Niles and enjoying it. It's almost like the crying over Max is just part of the banter with Niles.
The fact that he sometimes got Fran or even the kids to help him play a prank didn't feel right, though...that's not something that, for example, Benedick or Beatrice would have done.
I do wish they had stuck to banter, though. He also played some pranks, and some could have really hurt her...that doesn't fit the "Benedick-Beatrice" type relationship. Although, sometimes we hear him talk about the prank, so he might be joking and not really have done it. His getting the kids to help him doesn't feel like the way to do "enemies to lovers" either.
And whether or not CC views it as a game (I hope she does), it doesn't seem like they're clashing because they're different - Fran and Max are the classic rom-com opposites who attract despite having nothing in common (although, Fran and Max can never seem to stop clashing). Niles and CC, while different in background (supposedly, although Niles works as a butler but seems to live like a rich guy in some ways), don't seem like they're too different in personality to be a couple.
Abbenxena and got married with a baby on the way although the getting pregnant came before the marriage even though they didn't find out until like a minute after they got married
I know it's supposed to be like Benedick and Beatrice in Shakespeare (who trade witty insults yet like each other), but this became more one-sided. Niles went further, and was crueler, and CC's comebacks never sounded that clever. Plus, he could upset her while she never upset him, even if she did ever get the last word.
She was fixated on Mr. Sheffiield and was in denial with the fact that he never really saw her as a possible wife candidate. Niles being the astute and nosy butler that he is, is using the cruel to be kind approach on her, when he does his quips.
But did you notice how often, when CC tried to hug or kiss Max she somehow wound up with Niles in her arms? In one case, she got in bed with Niles, thinking Max was there. I think the exchange at 1:35 is rather telling - Max hurt CC more by ignoring her than Niles did with his insults, because he was obsessed with her, in however twisted a way.
This isn't the first she got compared to a horse CC: "I don't look a gifted horse in the mouth." Niles: "Then don't floss in the mirror." And one time to a cow Niles: "I'm sure there are plenty of foreign that would worship you. Go to India! You'd be sacred!"
Niles alternated between joking that CC never got any, and joking that she really got around. But one thing I don't think they ever showed her as overly "proper" in that regard...I mean, she wanted to "get some" and I think she was frustrated, not because no one liked her but because the guys who did weren't...satisfactory. Until Niles.
I also like when Niles holds up a broom and says "Hop on." In fanfic where they are together, he often calls her his witch, a reference to those kind of jokes, but he's also saying at that point that she put a spell on him. So maybe he's imply that with the witch jokes in the show, too. Some of the jokes about her being a man seem to be saying she doesn't look like a woman (which is NOT true) but one of the things I like about her is that she is successful in areas where, traditionally, women haven't always been able to be successful. Business seems to be her talent. Despite her supposedly being the mean one, she seems to create business relationships (which Fran often messes up.)
I also like the scene where CC tells Fran how "satisfying" it is to be with "a man who lives to serve." However, Niles himself is not in that scene. CC is talking to Fran...almost like she got the last laugh on Fran.
CC wasn't written to be as witty as Niles...you always felt like he "won" their exchanges. But she often seemed at her most cheerful when she was doing something with him...even if they were sparring...it would cheer her up if she was feeling ignored by Max.
I think in the earlier seasons it was more one sided and Niles always got in the barbs without CC responding, after the first few seasons though it started being more equal and CC began giving as good as she got.
@@bawoman it was! I saw an interview where Daniel Davis said Lauren Lane went to the writer's and asked to have CC be able to fight back! Around season 3 I think?
I swear if they had made a spin off of Niles and CC’s life after The Nanny with a family, it would’ve been hilarious for their chemistry alone was worth watching!
I think she liked it. When he had his heart attack she was so upset. She told Max & Fran how she set him up for a put down, but he just collapsed. She told Fran once that she thought that was the only type of relationship she could have.
After watching so many episodes where Max seems to totally ignore CC's "moves" on him, and/or CC "misses" and grabs or kisses Niles, I was actually surprised to see CC rubbing Max's shoulders in the first scene, and him somewhat enjoying it.
I love how the “help” ended up with the “wealthy” Fran & Mr Sheffield, CC & Niles, The father Sheffield & his nanny, sister Sheffield and her driver etc
And when she said that word, or rather, those three letters, even NILES backed off. I know they tried to make CC very different from Fran but it isn't like CC never shows emotion or is always prim or ladylike.
2:33 - someone has taken Niles' wallet away because he was gambling too much, and he thinks CC has it, but she thinks he wants...her. And oddly, doesn't seem to exactly mind that.

Oh. My. God. Why can't they send the English original in Germany too? Because in German with other voices the Nanny is only half as good. Like still my fave but... THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!
Frankly I think Maxwell has always known that C.C. wanted him, just like he knew C.C. never really cared for his kids. When you're named GQ's one of the most eligible bachelors or widowers (season 1 episode 1) you know women will chase after you. Despite working for and with Maxwell C.C. never really distinguished herself on an intimate level; she was one of the pack. She gave Maxwell no reason to want let alone respect her. Fran came in, owning her sexual energy, knowing she can get any guy she wants. Then Fran got sprung with Maxwell and she was making dumb choices with men, but the choices Maxwell notice her. It went back and forth but Fran finally took a stand and told Maxwell she was out ( season 5 Call me Fran). It started the deconstruction of Maxwell's wall around his heart and it ended at the altar. In the end C.C. was willing to take scraps from the table..and got it. Fran finally demanded a 5 course dinner served on bone china with elegant silverware...and got it.
The actress got pregnant during filming (the fourth season, I think) and CC unfortunately looks much fatter until the last season. But well, she performed a miracle and gave birth to a child, so let's not be like that.
CC and Niles were the real stars of the Nanny...The chemistry between these two was just amazing.

And, that time, it's a real victory for her - albeit not in wittiness. Niles actually looked scared!

So, I havent watched the entire show, just a few episodes and I really like the show, but did cc get fatter or just a different person?
The actress got pregnant during filming (the fourth season, I think) and CC unfortunately looks much fatter until the last season. But well, she performed a miracle and gave birth to a child, so let's not be like that.
I wonder if Niles took an actual photo of C.C. at 2:55 and got it developed afterwards 😂
Does anyone remember a scene where they're involved with Broadway Cares, and CC really wants the spotlight?
oh cc he's going to so love unplugging you
Un grand bravo à cc et à niles je vous adore merci pour votre immense talent top à sylvia fine et fran et yetta

Does anyone know if any the one liners were scripted or improvised?
Probably a little bit of both 🤔😁🤣
