2:52. This is obviously the site where a cannon was placed. There were many such cannons placed in strategic positions along the coast during WW2 to guard against possible Japanese invasion. After the war, materials were scarce (and expensive), especially metals. Many cannons were removed and melted to be used for something else. There are many hollow sites in North Head and Middle Harbour lookouts.
thanks for the history lesson mate, ive seen something similar to this at Port Kembla where the Breakwater Battery is so that would be the same they would of had canons there as well : )

It was actually earlier than that. It was installed in the late 1800s with cannons to defend against any Russian ships.
