WARNING GUYS Do remember to keep the cover of your cpu socket that you popped off from the motherboard, if in any case your motherboard is not working, you will need that popped off socket cover MANDATORILY for a replacement of your motherboard
Yo this was super helpful! I liked how you told us how much pressure to use and where to put pressure. I was so scared I was putting too much pressure before this video.
I typed in “how to install cpu” and since other videos were 14/17/20 minutes long! I clicked on yours and still learned everything I needed to. Thanks.
Thank you! I had no idea that the CPU cover was supposed to pop out like that… was trying to figure out what my mobo manual was saying but you cleared it up!
Thanks so much! It's been several generations since I built a rig and it seemed like a lot of pressure to put on that arm. Your video made me feel a lot better about that. Good to know that's how it's meant to be. ✅
Thanks for this. Just installed mine yesterday for the first time and I was freaking out that I messed it up because it seemed like it was just too much pressure even though everything was lined up. But it was about the same as what you had to do so I’m less concerned now.
Good video ! I liked that you showed from the installer POV, explained about the arrow and tab method of aligning and showed us the bottom of the CPU chip itself. I would also recommend to others that you inspect the pins on the MOBO very carefully before seating the CPU chip. I hate that they removed the pins from the chip itself and put them on the board.
This Video was really helpful, especially in helping out with the pressure. I had to use quite a lot pressure on my motherboard, even though the CPU was perfectly placed into the socket. Thanks mate
I've been looking all over for this explanation and thank you for doing a nice job on it. I was on eBay and saw several motherboards for sale for parts because the pins were bent. So I figured I better make sure I'm doing this right so I don't ruin my new motherboard.
Don't even have my CPU or motherboard in my hands yet, but I'm nervous haha. First time building a PC, and it helps to see what I'm in for. Quick n easy tutorial here, you don't overcomplicate it, thanks dude!
Please always guys remove the plastic cover of the socket (just push it with your fingers gently) before pressing down the plate. Do not do like in the video. 1. Open the socket by pulling the lever. 2. remove the plastic cover (and keept it, do not throw it away!), 3. put the processor in the socket by matching the arrow with the one in the socket (there is an arrow in one of the corners that specifically tells you in what position you should plug the CPU) , 4. close the metal cover and put the lever back in its place with the holder. After this, you may go ahead and install any back-plates for the cooler if needed or just install your preferred cooling system.
Super helpful video! I am curious about the marking on the bottom of the processor at 1:40-1:42. I have these same markings on my Core i5. Is this normal?
Not having upgrade a PC for a few yers I notice gigabyte have gone away from having a notch on the cpu socket to line up your cpu to having an arrow printed on the motherboard in this case it's bottom left I almost made a mistake and put the cpu updide down so use to having a notch on the upper right corner
I'm struggling with the orientation of the CPU. It was frusrating that your camera focus kept shifting onto your hands. The important bits for me went out of focus :(
when install cpu better take off the plastic cover by hand because you are pushing so much the cpu that might happen to bend a pin on motherboard.. it happened to me sometime.. and i just place the cpu and close it like you and after that a pin was bended and needed to send for replacement bcs system not working properly and i found out
can you please tell me how much force is required? Because it's my first time building and i think the hinge is toooo hard. the whole motherboard flexes when i press it
🤦🏾♂️ my dumbass had it backwards plus i think i over used thermal paste took it out redid the thermal paste matched it up my motherboard didnt have a arrow thats what threw me off but ended up figuring it out with this video. Thank you!! I thought my CPU was broken 😂
Okay. I built/changed about 3 or 4 PC with a socket that worked like this one. And helped with another 5-6 PCs. No problems ever. It's impossible to mess it, right? Until my last PC i'm building now. Somehow while doing exactly the same thing as always i ended up with CPU with bended substrate in two "top" corners, so bye-bye my new i7. How it happens, i dunno as it seem impossible to install a CPU incorrectly. My only guess that it was misplaced for like less than 1mm, but i still dunno how, if all those small holes that should prevent it.
So I think 💬 my CPU processer is too big for my motherboard because when I closed it my Shuttle R9 wouldn't power on and it bent the edges of the I3. Any advise?
@@FatKakashi hopefully just the mother board But the CPU is also fragile in a sense if you installed the CPU ojnthe wrong board chances are The CPU is also damaged I'd replace both
You don't need it to mount CPU, in fact You can take the CPU cover off if you want before mounting the CPU, but I feel its easier just to have the load plate push it out when puting the load plate back down with CPU in the socket since it'll pop right off.
Sorry, my motherboard is a ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus and this makes no sense to me. There is no alignment arrow on the motherboard anywhere that I can see and using the notches on the cpu or aligning with the pins does not work since the CPU will fit the socket right side up or upside down just as easily. The motherboard manual SUCKS, as it doesn't even mention which way the CPU goes in. EDIT: Left this message to maybe help someone else with the same motherboard. The manual only uses pictures, and you have to look VERY CLOSE to see the arrow on the CPU in the picture. It shows it towards the rectangular bracket, and nor the retention bar.
No it wouldn't work, I'm guessing you mean so it was backwards, the CPU will not fit into the socket unless it's the right way around. The alignment notches on the CPU prevent you from putting it in wrong.
bro I forgot to remove the CPU socket lever protector lga1700. the transparent tube which is on the lever latch. will there is damage or issues come? i have already installed the air cooler. will it be necessary to remove that tube?

Same here. I'm like WTF lol. REally Linus tech tips.
Short, sweet and to the point. Returning to Intel this week from a lengthy stint with AMD, this LGA stuff had me a bit nervous!. Thanks for the guide.
Agreed. I was scareed after using amd pins for so long to use a tad of force to close the lid.
I pass this vid along to instruct new beginners on how to install this current version of keyed CPUs. Well done. You have a knack for education.

thank you so much, always an elephant on the chest job putting in a new chip
The force and the bend on the socket lever worried me. Glad to see it's normal!!!

Concise and to the point. Thank you
Took my a good 45 minutes after wait for Intel support to guide me step by step how to do this! Total time was around 2 hours!😮
good video. no messing around and straight to the point. :)

I could be wrong but where should the screws to hold the mother down down in place ? Cause I don’t have any that I know of

No need

I am happy for you Noah, I had so much fun building my PC, felt so good to build something with my own two hands :)
Does 12 gen K processors require dedicated fan on top of them or its optional?
Yes K CPUs don’t come with a fan so you have to buy your own, if that’s what you’re asking
Does it need a bracket does it come with it
thank you, havent installed a cpu since 2016 so I forgot how 😳
does the chip come with thermal paste?
Thank you Blake, very cool
Well explained!!, nice motherboard btw.
Thanks!
No thermal compound Needed?
is that plastic cover really needed to mount the cpu?
You don't need it to mount CPU, in fact You can take the CPU cover off if you want before mounting the CPU, but I feel its easier just to have the load plate push it out when puting the load plate back down with CPU in the socket since it'll pop right off.

Can't see the stuff you were pointing in the socket due to the autofocus
Sorry Homurice, I was pointing to CPU alignment keys in the socket but looks like my phone didn't focus properly.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Careful not to get your hand & arm hair caught in the socket's load plate when you shut it.
Saved me from destroying my CPU and motherboard 🙏🏾👏🏽🏆

The amount of force needed to push the lever down is uncomfortable
