Hmmm i tend to drop my mags on the ground but I also roll in western wa we’re there’s a little less dust than cali fields if it’s not gonna lose me the fight then I tend to use my default muscle memory witch is re-indexing mags
Referring to your reference about not looking where you store your mag during a mag change. Yes, in a real gunfight, half a second is an eternity, and taking your eyes off of the enemy to fumble with BS gear can and will get you killed while facing a determined enemy who wants to kill you just as badly. An empty magazine is worthless in a gunfight, while situational awareness is your biggest ally, so why substitute the former for the latter. Drop your mag on the floor, load a new one, and come back for it once youre done, if you’ve survived HOWEVER, for airsoft, your life aint on the line so it doesn’t matter, but your opponent can still seize the initiative during that time that you are pre occupied with messing with gear. Another reason dump pouches are an L is noise discipline. A bunch of metal/plastic boxes clanging together in a pouch attached to your hip telegraphs your movements to the enemy. And the faster you move the loud it gets My advice, use cargo pockets for empty mags if they mean that much to you, or otherwise throw in a fresh one, finish the fight, then go back and retrieve
Post splits. But in all honesty this conversation always comes up which is why we highlight for an Airsoft context. Not real life. Plenty of other resources for that.
