Mark Farner was heavily criticized for using a Musicraft Messenger during his heyday with Grand Funk (1969-1971), by people who considered this guitar inferior to a Gibson or a Fender. He played a Messenger on all his albums up until Survival, then on E Pluribus Funk he played a white Gibson SG that Steve Marriot had sold him. Then, Farner had a Veleno to record Shinin' On in 1974.
You can add that Farner played a Microfrets extensively after he could not get anyone to refret his messenger due to the aluminum neck.
My grandpa was involed with that design he created the first ally me neck guitar in United States google grburke guitars. If u find any please let me know….. I played his messenger that he had …… I now have his personal 12 string I’m glad I looked this up thanks forvsharing
If Dan Auerbach doesn't already have 17 of these stockpiled I'm going to be really disappointed.
😂😂😂😂
The inventor of the Messenger neck was my father, Glen Fredrick Burke. He produced it it from 1964 in a kit that he sold to hi school shop programs. He worked with the job core in Astoria, Oregon. he ran the shop program where students would build their own guitars.. Colleen Burke Pulley.
Been searching for that sound since first listening to the Grand Funk Railroad's Live Album at my grandpa's house back in my teenage years!!!
I’m you captain/closer to home can’t be don’t properly without this guitar
Mark Farner's guitar in Grand Funk Railroad. 👍
That's what I get for posting a comment before seeing the whole video, 😂
Now that’s a guitar shape that needs to come back into style
I've got a stereo Messenger guitar and gig with it often in my blues band, Mud Rooster. You can hear it being played through a '57 Fender Super in several UA-cam posts. One of my favorite guitars.
You are correct in that there is not much information about these guitars out there. I communicated with Mr. Casey's son about the company trying to build my knowledge and at least create a Wiki page about the brand. He knew a little bit but really wasn't interested. In the meantime, I've absorbed about all of the knowledge that exists on the web. How many Messengers were built, how many Magnas, what does the Al-Mag neck actually tune to (it's not 440), design flaws, various pickguards, bridges, control knobs, upper bout strap button positions, etc. Musicraft Messengers would have faded away into obscurity if not for Mark Farner.
Gfburke guitars….. my grandpa built that design
@@glenburke7053If what yoy're saying is true.. your grandpa made a really cool design :)
Mark Farner is god. I’d love to reverse engineer the fuzz circuit that came in these
They make a pedal at 4.53 in video
Basic Audio makes a Messenger Fuzz. I helped with giving him some info since I have a Messenger guitar. He says that it is similar to having two Electro Harmonix LPB units.
If interest I’ll show u pic of one’s I have found….. but most of them are on google….. if u find anymore if u rescherch please keep me in the loop
weird shape, great sound!
I got so much to help u fill in the gap and I know my odds cut in half talking to u
First ally me neck guitar made in usa
To find the lingering pueces
Magnificent guitar that is
Acaseofburkitiss4
It really does pretty much sound like shite, we just love the sound because of the music Mark Farner gave us with it.
Sometimes mistaken for a Micro Frets, another innovative & short lived brand from that era.
Concept pas mal innovant pour l'époque et soniquement pas déplaisant à entendre
このギターはマーク・ファーナーが使ってたやつだよね?
Yes
Honestly dont know why it must have "secret" sounds. It is well known what it sounds like, listen to Mark Farner.
