- Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on April 22 clarified Bharatiya Janata Party leader K Annamalai’s ‘Congress not support’ allegation. Responding to Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai’s statement on him regarding his UN Secretary-General candidature, Congress MP and candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor said, “It is the Congress government that had nominated me. Dr Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister who nominated me. Sonia Gandhi was the Congress leader. Of course, they nominated me.”

Annamalai is smart to suggest that BJP would have supported Tharoor for the UN post. That would give him an option to finally cave and join BJP after a colossal loss that Congress is bracing for in the coming weeks. India needs bright and eloquent minds like Tharoor at the forefront of diplomacy. It's a shame that he has stuck with the party that has treated him like a second-class leader. He needs some serious introspection.
All the powerful leaders like him with so much knowledge and command, these people not even once question why they follow Gandhi family blindly or even what qualifies them to be leaders of one of the oldest party. Why can’t anyone else lead the Congress and be done with this family.
