Sunday morning, sun shining here in England, it’s going to be a hot day but I can’t get up until I’ve watched your video 😂😎, love the dress Janelle ✂️🧵
The dress is a triumph! 😍 I love the v-shaped waistline and the amazing voluminous skirt. I am so glad you put in the sleeves, they really complete the look. When I think back to the gorgeous, feminine Laura Ashley dresses I had back in the 1980s (yes, I am THAT old!) it makes me so nostalgic. I shall have to make myself something pretty and floral to remind me of my long-lost youth 😉
I can spot a Laura Ashley pattern ,dress, fabric a mile away. When I was in 7th grade in February 1988 I needed a semi formal dress for the Sweetheart Dance. My mom and I went shopping and I found a beautiful red tone on tone floral print Laura Ashley made from a cotton sateen in that exact pattern. It looked like the blue dress. We bought the dress from the Laura Ashley store. That dress was worn by many people Over the next 15 years for Christmas Galas ect. I wish I still had it. Anyway...I love this pattern and I love this dress. I love Laura Ashley. Edited to add: My dress had pockets.
I made my first Laura Ashley dress in the 70s when the "Little House on the Prairie" look was gaining popularity LOL I was addicted for several years. Lovely to watch your project come to life. I'm feeling a nostalgic and just a tad sentimental ♥
I could never pull off wearing a dress like that but of course you look like perfection. Love watching your sewing videos in a constant state of awe ❤️
Janelle I have just read through the comments and I totally agree with them. Your dress is stunning, beautifully made and so feminine. I love the alterations you made to the bodice; the end result is perfect for you......and your boots! OMG you have such creativity and skill. I am unable to sew for 8 weeks because of recent shoulder surgery so the frustration is real!!! Especially since we have just gone into a 7 day Covid lockdown in Sth Aust. What a lovely community here on your channel. xx
I had a Laura Ashley wedding dress in 1982, I always loved the style and materials she used. The finishing touch with her dresses were the sleeves, so you were right to put them in to this dress. I just love this dress it takes me back to my youth (my dress was made in burgundy velvet with a vintage lace collar and I still have it)😊
Even though the wedding was canceled, I remembered trying on Laura Ashley wedding dresses. They were so beautiful and a lovely alternative to the usual wedding gowns.
Haya. You made a beautiful dress & you look amazing, so glad you decided to go for the sleeves, it balances everything perfectly & like you say, if you make another 1 you can opt for a sleeveless :) Loving the fabric. Thanku 'sew' much for sharing. x
Just love how this dress turned out! It looks so on trend for today, despite being a dress from the 80’s!! I hope you show us how to do the sleeveless version too! 💕
Lovely version of the dress. I made that dress in the early 80’s. Dating myself here. It was from a lightweight golden corduroy fabric. Loved that dress.
OMG that’s my Year 12 ball dress pattern. My friend Jodie made it for me as she was studying fashion design and needed a project. She used baby pink taffeta and made it with the short puffy sleeves. Looked gorgeous and fabulous back in 1985. Love how yours turned out. I still think I have the pattern in my stash. Cos you never throw anything away. Thank you for sharing Janelle.
it's funny, as soon as you mentioned making the bust smaller I suddenly realized why the Rosery Apparel patterns always fit me a little strangely - I need to be altering the patterns I buy from you to have a larger bust instead of cutting a larger size!
The pattern on the right was my bridesmaids dresses for my wedding in 1988!!!! So lovely to see it again. The wedding, best leave that in the last, haha
What an awesome year-round dress. It will be especially awesome in Autumn and Winter with sweaters and scarfs and jackets. Then in its awesomeness it goes into Spring and Summer. It will look good with flats and tennis shoes too. Wow. Impressive and beautiful. Love the skirt and sleeves. You did a good job with the bodice too. Beautiful. GOD BLESS.
Wow this dress is just stunning. Just when I think U couldn't make a cuter dress bam this one comes out 😍 and I love the way the sleeves turns out 👌👍🏽😘
Thank you! Compressing all of the footage into a video does make it look quick and easy but this dress took me a solid three days to make in the end! I’ll definitely be making different versions of this dress for summer so stay tuned 😍
I just found your channel about a week ago, I find myself watching all of your lovely videos and hopefully save some money for one or two of your patterns 😇
I LOVE the fabric of the skirt of the first outfit you wear in this video. And though the dress you make in this video is lovely. That first outfit is definitely more my style ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
thank you so much for being another part of my sewing inspiration. I can watch your videos all day...well actually I do that as much as possible lol! I am getting back in to sewing and have already purchased two patterns from you and have attempted to sew the corduroy dress! I have never made a dress before but your simplicity in your instructions have given me the courage. I am almost done!! Thank you!!
I concur with your choices to raise the waist line and to shape the sleeves a bit shorter and slimmer. for you petite frame. That enhanced the design for you. Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing the process with us! For the curved seaming(in this case ,the princess bodice seams) I recommend stay stitching the concave curve (1/8"toward the cut edge from the seam line) and clipping to that, then pin and stitch the seam. Then use a tailoring/dressmaker's ham to press the curved seams. It was not so necessary for you smaller bust.but someone larger busted would have to ease a deep curve and so the stay-stitching and pressing method makes it much easier and successful. I am inspired to make something like this. It is so classical and timeless and very flattering for the female figure. Thanks again!
I love this kind of days. Here in my country cloudy little bit chill, with cup of coffee at sunday I love watching your video and feel little bit vintage... So beautiful dress, I would love to try to sew this kind of dress for me. Its so beautiful, You are just like a Princess ♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful!! This style reminds me of a dress my grandmother made me when I became a bridesmaid for my aunt when I was a little girl. I adored that dress! (It was giant rose floral print in red and peach). What a gorgeous dress!!
such a charming dress!!!!! and I agree that it looks wonderful with the boots and black stockings. My inner Anne Shirley and goth girl are tremendously happy. 😊 grin grin grin! ☺
In the 80s the fashion craze as far as dresses went were called Gunne Sax. I still have mine from when I was 16. It’s still like new BC I loved it so much and was the best dress & most expensive I owned. 1980
I made a vintage pattern almost identical to this. But I loved how you raised the waist and squared the neck! You are such an inspiration!! The gingham, and boots were was sheer genius!,
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create that dress, from a vintage pattern, I really really love ❤️ your version of the top of the dress, it’s stunning and gorgeous too. And the sleeves, look amazing too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
@@RoseryApparel oh gosh YES. I loved it. YAY to pockets… noooo way to missing pieces but YAY to alternate pattern piece find! Omgosh, you are so cute.. you reminded me that you could be one of the Ingles! 🤪😁😘 loved the video, thanks for sharing!
You made some great choices. Lovely fabric. I remenber making that pattern long ago and i remember it was a big skirt. I loved the echo of neckline and waist but you modernized it well with the square neckline.
Ahh! It’s so cute!! You really did a beautiful job, working around the missing pieces and making it fit you perfectly. I don’t have these skills yet as a beginner but I hope, with practice, someday I do! I love vintage patterns transforming into wearable garments for today.
My sister had a dress like this as a flower girl dress in a pinky mauve satin when she was about 8 and I had one in a blue grey cotton with a lace overlay on the middle of the bodice. You did well with it!
I sewed up this dress in peach color for my daughter, then age 5, who served as flower girl for my brother's wedding. The dress was lovely. I sewed the same style in floral for myself.
You did a fantastic job and it would inspired me to try vintage and thrived fabric if I weren't already trying to work through my craft fabric 😹 when I buy second hand patterns I always check whether the pieces are uncut and whether all the pattern pieces are there if I'm buying them sight unseen I won't pay as much. At least checking the pattern is a good habit to get into
Years ago we had a Laura Ashley outlet store in the States. I always found great skirts, sweaters and bedding there. So miss it. The dress you made is so great. Love how you adapted another pattern piece to the Laura Ashley one to make it work, and the checked fabric is adorable. I also have 2 bottles of Laura Ashley cologne with flowers painted on the bottle. Can’t part with them. Must be 20 years old.
I totally love this dress! I think I'll make mine without sleeves, but I love them on you. This was such a fun video to watch, THANK YOU for sharing!!!
Loved the video and the trip down memory lane. I had a Laura Ashley dress and a pinafore in my 20s in the 80s. Gave them to a thrift shop years ago and now wish I hadn't! Even if , at 61, I would only wear them around the house, the style is most true to me. The 20-something that loved Laura Ashley then still loves it now.
I worked for Mrs. Ashley and opened the third shop in the U.S. in 1979.. We did have that dress in a "sleeveless" version and it works well in a light pinwale corduroy fabric, plus you can wear a light turtleneck sweater/ shirt underneath.. You did very well !!! I noticed you used an invisible zipper- bravo !! - The original dress had sleeve plackets with buttons and a tighter fit as you made it. I think the pattern companies attempted to make it "easier " for the average sewer..
Hi i am from the Philippines..I really enjoyed watching your videos...I really love sawing, and I hope someday I could have my own sewing machine like yours...❤..Godbless always..many more videos to watch...😊
Such a gorgeous dress! Well done adapting to the fact the bodice pattern was missing, you made such a beautiful version in the end and stayed true to your idea. Thank you for sharing!
I love the way you inserted the lining and how you managed to create such a beautiful neckline! I would love to hear more details about that as those two things I struggle the most with. Thank you for sharing the process :-)
I think I told you when you found this pattern that my mum made it for my Year 11 formal, black velvet for the bodice and emerald green taffeta skirt. It was gorgeous. Everyone at that formal who had a mum that could sew wore this dress in some variation. It was very popular. I’m glad you put the sleeves in. It makes it very different from all the other dresses you have made. You did an amazing job.
I'm quite certain my mom made all the bridesmaid dresses from this pattern for my sisters' 1988 wedding! I was the "junior bridesmaid" at 9 years old and my mom added a cuff and lace to my puff sleeves. I felt like Anne of Green Gables. How awesome to see the pattern again with some modern styling!
When you showed the bodice pieces you needed, I immediately thought of a New Look pattern I got secondhand. Turns out you had the same one!! 😄😄 turned out great with the square neckline!
Wow! A blast from the past. I made this dress in a peach color for my sister-in-law's wedding back in 1988.
Sounds soo pretty! 😍

I have many patterns still from my teens in the 80’s. I might have this exact pattern.
It's the pattern I used to make my rainbow girl dress, just added a ruffle to the bottom for length. I felt like a princess.

Circa 1988, child me I had an Easter dress like this in a floral polished cotton. Your fabric choice brings the style right into 2021!
perfect to watch before I leave for work.

The dress turned out lovely! You look very nice and the boots look nice with it also!👗😃

I had a dress from that pattern, in a Laura Ashley material. Loved it
Well done, dress turned out just lovely Janelle. And exactly what we used to wear back in the 80's. Loved them back then and love the look now too.

My mother sewed that pattern for one of my daughters as a graduation dress in a pretty ivory blue and peachy pink floral cotton
