Bro, I don't know what you're talking about. It was neither a flop nor did it fall off. Did you research it? Solo Leveling ranked as the 5th most popular series of all time on Crunchyroll, with 357k votes. It only needs around 5k more to reach 4th place. Its IMDb rating is 8.3, proving how popular it is. It's also one of the most anticipated anime of 2025. Just a few days ago, it won the Best Anime Series Award of 2024 at the Astra TV Awards. Additionally, Solo Leveling is the most searched series of 2024, including this month. "And if you don't know, this season was like a setup for Season 2. The producers of Solo Leveling mentioned in an interview that Season 2 will focus on world-building and exploring more characters and their stories. Even the voice actors of Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In discussed this in an interview this week. They will also add anime original scene for some character and a story about a hunter who will be close to jinwoo in future.
Solo levelling to me has always been peak mid, it doesn’t do anything extremely unique but it dose those troupes very well The 1st season of the manhwa is very much more focused on sungs constant growth and grinding levels and is full of the “B-BUT ISNT HE A E-RANK HUNTER” style stuff when sungs in a dungeon other than the ones the system makes. So I can see that many people will have this conception that it’s “just like any power fantasy show” or something like that after season 1 and probably season 2 as well depending on if season 2 adapts the rest of the first season of the manhwa But season 2 of the manhwa in my opinion is much more focused on the characters and lore of solo levellings world and if probably where those complaints about the side cast and story will quiet down. The only fear is that all Gojo simps will now transcend into sung jin woo simps.
I saw the Solo Leveling movie on Saturday. I was in one of those tiny theaters and it was packed. I was beyond shocked at how many people kept pouring in just as the movie was about to start. So much for expecting a relatively empty theater. Made me glad I bought the tickets in advance. Lol. The movie itself was good. The first hour is a cut together recap of the first season that leaves out most of the side characters and just shows Jinwoo's major fights in season 1. Then the last half is the first two episodes on season 2. Okay, so I read the manwha, it was such a compelling read, I could not put it down. I can not describe to you how fucking hype it was to finally see this content animated. And it was gorgeous, movie quality animation the whole way through. I could tell from the audience reactions that everyone was enjoying themselves. Not one person got up to leave early. Everyone stayed to the end. I actually had to leave as soon as the credits rolled so I didn't get a chance to listen to the new opening song by Lisa. But, from what I heard as I was leaving the theater, the song is pretty fire. I can say with confidence that season 2 is going to be so much better than season 1. It's barely even "solo" leveling anymore because Jinwoo's shadows level up, too. Lol. Can I just say that the pacing in Solo Leveling is crazy? Like when they're adapting straight canon, the average episode can eat up 5-6 chapters of the manwha. There are only 200 chapters in total. The series is short. You could adapt it in 3 single cours, easy. That being said, the pacing of the manwha is insane as well. That's why it's so compelling, every chapter leaves you wanting more. To your point, Solo Leveling is as pure of a power fantasy as you can get. It's one dude, getting stronger while no one else can. Oh and it's edgy as fuck and I love that shit. But, I can totally see how the edgy-ness can come off as super cringe and turn people off to it. I get it. That's what makes it a bit more niche in that regard. But my god, if your are into this type of bullshit, it is one of the most satisfying series you will ever consume.
@@fishnutz5196 Only in the later sequels of it. Solo Leveling was doomed to be harshly criticised ever since the protag suddenly got buff in the beginning.
It's pretty interesting how most of the talk around series nowadays is from perspectives that fail to understand others perspectives. Solo Leveling, let's take the name of the series into consideration, those who have basic verbal comprehension should understand what solo means, now if we watch the first episode and understand who is the individual leveling, it's Sung Jin Woo. Now we understand the series is quite literally named after the main character. As for how the story progresses, Sung Jin Woo is desperate to never die again, he goes against his PTSD derived from getting slaughtered as a sacrificial pawn. The truth of how the world operates and the reasoning why he levels up is revealed later into the story, which I will not spoil. It's unfortunate that those who hate on fictional stories that are successful, will never be able to achieve anything as great, as impacting as that achievement itself.
I mostly agree but imo the way it “fell off” isn’t so much about the quality of its content as it is about the context in which it debuted. Anime thrives on a delicate ecosystem of hype, timing, and community discourse, and *Solo Leveling* might’ve been a victim of circumstances rather than its own shortcomings. Let’s start with the obvious: *Solo Leveling* was never designed to be an introspective, nuanced tale. It’s a power fantasy through and through, unapologetically so. The criticisms about its side characters and lack of depth seem almost beside the point. Sun Jin-Woo is *the* draw... his unstoppable rise from underdog to demigod is the kind of wish-fulfillment that speaks directly to why many people turn to action-heavy series in the first place. It’s popcorn entertainment, and it excels at delivering jaw-dropping moments that remind you why you love the genre. So why didn’t it stick? TIMING!!! It launched in a season dominated by *Frieren* and *Dungeon Meshi*, both of which had completely different appeals-grounded storytelling, emotional depth, and sweet casts! That said, I believe Season 2 has potential. With less direct competition and an established fanbase, it could reassert itself as the action juggernaut it was meant to be. Sure, it may not win over critics who demand “more,” but for those of us who revel in its chaotic, over-the-top brilliance? There’s no question... it’s worth watching.
I honestly still see a lot of people excited for it to continue. A lot of people I talk to are excited to see it animated and curious about what else could be added into the anime that wasn’t in the manhwa. But with literally anything remotely popular, people will call it overrated. It’s fine. I’m still very interested to see the rest.
I have haven't watched the vid yet but i would like to throw out this idea first. I think its reached its natural life scycle of hype it provides and that is not a bad thing. If the quality stays up it will reach the same hights or higher and would probably linger longer because there would be more character moments and character dynamics with one another. If you have read jjk there was a significant drop in content after it finished and that is supposed to happen
Solo Leveling is bad. Sung Jin-Woo is just another overpowered character. This wouldn't be an issue if it went the One Punch Man route and had good side characters, but it doesn't. I think it is a waste of time because you already know what will happen.
Solo Leveling came out too late. Whoever was reading it years ago went on to read or watch a ton of similar stories, many of which were more than just a power fantasy. Whatever novelty it had died out a long time ago and got replaced by Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.
@ShonenOuji it's very similar to series like omniscient reader and tower of God, it's artstyle could be confused for omniscient reader. However, I still like it, my problem is it is at a disadvantage because of its look and genre, it can't stand out as much. Also I like the badges moments I just want more characters who do that in solo leveling.

We also got similar, but better written from SAO as well prior to SL in 2012... No one cares anymore? Brother the trailer of season 2 that dropped a week ago has over 2 million views, and just the trailer of the opening has over 1.2 million views, not the opening itself just it’s trailer.
Honestly, I have no clue since I didn't like the manhwa and didn't bother with the anime xD
What didn’t you like about the manhwa?
@@ShonenOujiBesides the art being amazing I'd say it seemed too repetitive how fights would go and a lot of characters don't seem important or worth knowing besides Sung Jin Woo.
U might not know this but solo leveling didn't end. It has a sequel web novel called SL: Ragnarok with 200+ chapters and we get to know a lot about the old and new side characters and their backstories.i feel like SL is tryna do like dragonball then we got dragonball Z
I have read the manhwa and if season two is only the arc that was shown in the trailer, then pple r gonna be rather uninterested cus that arc was one of the weaker arcs in the story
I think solo leveling is not weebtoon but its on webnovel
Its webnovel adapted to webtoon
