Back pain that’s worse on extension is often related to the facet joints. The facets are planar joints, they rest flat against each other but normally there is a healthy amount of joint space and soft tissue that exists in between each facet in the form of a joint capsule and other structures like nerve endings. The facets are richly innervated which is why when they become irritated they can cause quite a lot of pain. The facet joints are most likely to become irritated in an extension range of motion which usually causes localized pain that can be diffuse across the low back. Chiropractic adjustments can usually help this type of pain because they help to re-establish the healthy joint space in between the facets and help to restore normal range of motion.

Finally, a video that shows 3D animation! I've been waiting for this type of illustration. Thank you for doing this on visually showing us what's going on in your back. At some point, are you going to illustrate the gas popping that occurs in your joints that you feel in your back from manipulation ? That would be really cool to show how that happens on the 3D imaging! I'll be looking for in that in future videos.. With today's technology, that would give a clearer understanding on what's going on than, rather using the old skeleton model...Thanks again!

Not to mention... the scleratogenous referral of pain from facets, which has nothing to do with nerve root irritation at all. Great research on that from the 1950's by Dr.'s Feinstien and Kellgren... :)
