I think I would move all the stored items to the back of the closet and dad's items to the front and have the front be for guests to use. Just for more consolidation.

Great motivation to go through old memorabilia! I ended up getting a tshirt blanket made for my sister with all her old sports jerseys and tshirts by Project Repat. Look into it!

Old trophies can be donated to Boys/Girls Clubs. Women's shelters always appreciate clothing in good condition. Some of the old phones can be wiped and given to service people who can not be on a regular program.

Thank you! It is a great feeling to have that done. And it is so nice that I can still go back “home” and my kids can now enjoy my old room and home. I really did enjoy my childhood, but I have to say I’m sure your full house was a lot more exciting at times than mine since my brother is so much older he was out of the house and at college by the time we moved into this house. I would have loved having more siblings closer to my age. 😜

I think it looks great... Only thing I would have done would be to use that largest crate to stand up those big art pieces inside of the crate so it would be easier for mom n dad to move them Around ❤❤❤❤

Not attacking you but if this stuff is important to you, you should take to your home. Moms home isn’t a dumping or storage building. I’m just saying from listening to my friends talk about their grown kids using their parents home for the junk they want but apparently isn’t important enough to clutter their own homes. My daughter moved out and I gave her time to set her home up and it was time to get her stuff out of my home and put it in hers.

I actually asked my mom before doing this if she’d like me to take it and she said I could keep it there because she has the space for it and it’s not bothering her. 🥰 She would certainly tell me if it needed to go and I would have respected that and taken it with me. ❤️

@@lilysmommyXO I understand that…But how often do you get out your sentimental memories and use them daily? And if you have someone telling you to leave them there because they don’t use that closet and it’s not hurting anything, then I don’t see that as a big issue. It doesn’t mean it’s not important and if I need to get it I will, but it’s not things being used daily. 🤷🏼♀️
Absolutely right. Just dumping your clutter on someone else is totally unfair. Of course her Mum will allow it because she loves her but that does not mean that she likes it. This is called deferred decluttering.
Your parents let you leave stuff at their house after marriage?
Yes, they have let me leave stuff in my old room bc they have the space and aren’t using it for anything besides the grandkids. I was fortunate that I had a big closet so I have just consolidated it all in there and am helping my mom redecorate my old room for my kiddos and guests. ❤️ They’ve been very gracious to let me do that… and for the longest time my husband and I had just a one bedroom tiny apartment and we lived half way across the country and they just let me leave stuff there. I’m now living closer so I am consolidating it since there was a lot I did not want, need, or use. ☺️
