    Very sorry this happened! When it's your own car, things can get very stressful for sure. The good thing is, you've been there before and know that car very well. It's definitely making a very informative video!
    Thanks for posting this one! Can't wait for part 2.

      Hey thanks man. Much appreciated. Yes I had the other cylinder head redone after the valve spring break. Now in retrospect I probably should have had this side done too but I really, really didn’t want to do two heads.

    How could a broken spring explain valve not opening? Looks more like a broken rocker, bent pushrod or something like that.

    You mentioned at 14:09 about a timing chain jumping teeth would only affect one bank.. that wouldn't be true for a single cam engine. It would affect all cylinders.
    Also, your relative compression test shows "high compression" for cylinder 3... keep in mind its companion cylinder, which is #2, can have an exhaust valve not opening. This would make the starter work harder and draw more amperage - as 3 is comping up on compression, so is cylinder 2 if its exhaust valve isn't working.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  8 місяців тому

      Ha yes you are correct! I totally didn’t think about the single cam- I am so used to two cams that my car is the only one I ever see with single cam any more!!!

    Bad gas can happen! A year or so ago I finished up a car at work, sales team took the car to fill it with gas, it came back on a flatbed. Although unlike this case, the engine wouldn't even stay running. Drained fuel and the fuel was FULL of water.

    • @njdrives

      Haha yeah I’m not sure if that was the case or not. If I remember correctly the fuel pump sounded very weak which is what pointed to the fuel direction

    In all fairness, since this is the second major issue with the valve train, I can't help but wonder if there is a valve spring coil binding event taking place. The machinist would have no idea unless he or she knows your exact valve lift from your camshaft. Then by calculating the lift, pushrod length and rocker arm ratio, then measuring valve spring collapsed length and spring shim thickness, they might come up with a suggestion.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  8 місяців тому

      I totally agree. I actually have a meeting with the best machinist I know and will bring the engine blueprint and have him look and make recommendation on what may be going here.

  • @canadatransistor
    @canadatransistor 8 місяців тому

    so strange that 2 cylinders had a simultaneous failure. I'm wondering if any of the weird pressures disturbed a head gasket with neighboring cylinders on same bank. I'm not used to thinking pushrod valves... i usually am thinking along the lines of a DOHC setup. Potentially 2 chains for like a modern v6. But in this case, I don't know much about the LS v8 setup. It will be an interesting series.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  8 місяців тому +1

      yeah i don’t think we have a head gasket issue here because the loss of compression on 5 is explained by the missing intake valve activity and there is high compression on 3.

    Seeing that super high spike @11:20 I was think bent exhaust valve, but of course, that's an inexperienced quick guess. I can't imagine how a valve would suddenly NOT open...
    looking forward to part 2.

    • @kellismith4329
      @kellismith4329 8 місяців тому

      A bent valve would cause low or no pressure, could be a bad lifter, pushrod or camlobe

    You said that you weren’t sure if the cylinder was higher than normal compression or the only one that was normal. But I can’t imagine any sort of scientific explanation of mechanical failure that would cause higher compression?

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  8 місяців тому

      A longer intake stroke would do it. More air into cylinder.
