Rather the English elderly than people not born in the uk all foreigners should pay as we do when working or travelling abroad also benefits should only be for people born here

My grandmother lived independently until age 99. My mother still does challenging work and takes care of her house at age 89. Age is just a number. It is unethical to impose categorical restrictions based on age.

I'm 78 and if I get seriously ill I don't want these interventions I would want to end my life in those circumstances but they won't let me. I believe young people with their lives ahead of them should have priority for scarce resources .

The argument is ridicolous: the NHS s to already rationing medical care. Rather the argument should be whether the rationing should be made overt or kept covert. Obviously since teh UK is not a functioning democracy no chance of that happening ever.

@@keithfrancis9293Most hospital stays are not long enough to cause a health issue and portions are moderate. Also, there’s an economic and logistical challenge in serving up vast numbers of individual meals within a small window of time. It’s amazing that they can cater for vegetarian and vegan menu options under the circumstances. When you’re ill you may as well enjoy some comfort food!

      Economics indeed.
If humans took care of their own health.
If NHS hospitals did the same with patients
then sales of pharmaceuticals would tank = poor profits = poor dividends from shares = unhappy shareholders = BlackRock.
I used to work unpaid in an NHS hospital and just one example on a Ward the 'delicious' lemon cake in a wrapper had an expiry date of 12 months from manufacture.
I wish my lemons at home lasted 12 months then i'd save a fortune

@@keithfrancis9293 I agree that humans should take more care of their health, but it would seem that part of being human is knowing what we should do but not doing anything about it. I never understood why, in the 1970s, many doctors smoked when it was 20 years after the connection of disease and smoking was officially established. I suppose there is an element of self destruction in all of us and of course, not forgetting that the western world has forgotten the meaning of moderation. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with an occasional meat pie 😁

Our society doesn’t like making hard choices. And it doesn’t like making value judgements about peoples lives (ie deciding that it’s not worth spending a fortune on a 90 year old). And it doesn’t like self sacrifice. And (being fundamentally atheistic and individualistic) it is absolutely terrified of death.

And by extension why treat sick kids when their parents could just have another more healthy child that costs less to the state on healthcare over their lives?
When human life loses sanctity, it is easily sacrificed at the altar of money.
Atheism means no god. For many atheists their god is money.
