Jesus taught using a lot of "inside world, outside world" metaphors. Like "the eye fills the body with light/darkness" and I think we sometimes go too far with it. "If i was really a good husband, I'd feel this way." Or "I did say that, but that was one time, im not really like that deep down." In truth, these are just ways of looking at things. There isn’t a "deep down." You either felt it in the moment or you didn't. You either did the thing or you didn't. There isn’t a "real you" underneath some superficial mask, There's just you.
You accept that you felt that way, and you repent for it. Real believers, because they're human, more than likely will be asking for forgiveness everyday/night before you go to bed.
