    For anyone reading this, this is a much better method for motion graphic video files vs. VLC. For whatever reason, after a VLC conversion my graphic rotates 45 degrees and it's more headache than it's worth trying to fix it. Hand Brake is much better and does not do this. Thanks so much Marcos!

    This actually is reducing the file quality by a huge amount. H.264 is a compressed file type, good for the last step of video production - if you don't need to make any more changes. If you need to do any colour grading or do something like key out a green screen, this kind of compression will make it significantly more difficult. Otherwise if nothing needs to be done to it and the difference is in perceivable then it's totally a good option. It can also be done in any video editing software.

And someone else commented about how he was wrong about the encoder settings. The slower you set it, the SMALLER the video size gets and higher quality. It will take a lot longer depending on your hardware.

    Great video! Just wanted to say that when encoder options are talked about (4:29), a faster encoder option actually tends to increase the file size while having less quality. A slower encoder option actually leads to (usually) smaller video files with better quality at the same time. This is because a slower encoder option takes much longer, using the computer graphics and processing in order to optimize the quality as best as possible while keeping the small file formate.

      Okay, so I was a little weary about how much quality I was going to lose in the compression after I read the comments, but I went ahead and tried it anyway just to see exactly how much quality id be sacrificing. Using a 9 minute, 1.5G video, I first tested the absolute fastest, lowest quality possible. The file was compressed to 19MB with noticeable quality loss but not NEARLY what I expected. I then used the same video, but adjusted the settings to those recommended in this video. The file was compressed to 49MB and I was actually REALLY impressed and more than satisfied with the quality. My final test was done using the same video with all of the settings adjusted for the slowest possible compression. The video was 556MB and there was no noticeable quality loss WHATSOEVER. In conclusion, it was possible to reduce my file size by more than 1/3 without losing any noticeable quality. Therefore, it's not technically fair to label this video as clickbait.

      If you want to upload small filesize videos to Discord use a program called iDealShare VideoGo 7 and encode in Webm in VP9 and Opus. VP9 is basically the same quality as HEVC but it isn't hardware accelerated, sadly, however, Opus is what makes it worth it, as it's about 1.8x as effective as AAC.
      If your video has got a lot of talking, you can set the bitrate to 12kbit up to 30kbit and set audio to Mono. This will half the needed bitrate because there would only be 1 channel. If you need audio quality, like if you want a song that sounds better at higher bitrates (has complex synths that tank the bitrate), set it to around 64 to 100kbit.
      He didn't touch on a very useful feature - if you really need to squeeze the best quality video in under 8MB or 50MB, set the bitrates so that the projected file size stays below 8MB or 50MB (but not too close to it, go for 49.00MB instead of 49.90MB as it can still render in more than 50MB), choose VBR on both video and audio and choose the 2-Pass option. If your CPU is powerful or you don't mind running your PC or laptop for several hours, you should set the CRF value to a lower one - 33 is normal quality, 19-21 is good quality and still lower is even better. Try and experiment, maybe 1 or 0 would be great for you (probably worth doing that if you specifically want to upload in less than 8MB. But why would you want to do that if you can upload in 50MB for free just by joining a big server that has 15 or more boosts, like some partner server?)
      P.S. files above 50MB will not be embedded and it will not cut it

    I'm sorry, the intentions for making this video were probably good, but the end result is not what's being promised and some of the details given are actually erroneous. In my experience you can reduce the file size by about 5 times without definitely not losing visible quality. I would also not skimp on audio quality. 128kbps audio is not very good. Stick to 192kbps. Also, decombing should not be turned off without knowing what you're doing. It's great for deinterlacing, keep it on if you don't know what you're doing. You might also want to keep all the audio tracks like a 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos, etc Maybe I should do a video myself on this, or a blog post. Turns out I know more about this than what's in this video. :)

    without losing quality? year right..I think you misunderstand what COMPRESSION is about...You always lose "some" quality by compressing it to a smaller file. The question is, how much quality is acceptable to your human eye...but stating that you shrink a file without losing quality is a lie

    hey, 4:50 I think if you turn that slow then the quality would be good but the time taken to encode will increase and size would be same. It is tradeoff between time and quality, not time and size as you said. Please correct if i am wrong

  • @bobstechreviews8942

    I hit the dislike button. Here’s why:
    The title says How to compress video file size without loosing quality.
    It’s impossible to compress a video file without loosing quality. And you’re loosing a ton of quality with the massive compression you showed. And also, choosing 128kbit mp3 for the audio ruins the whole audio. I wouldn’t use mp3 for audio, but if I had to, I’d use 320kbit.
    Anyways, apart from the clickbait title, nice video 👍
    Personally I think it’s nice to get an explanation for why someone hits the dislike button. So there it is.

    • @florisr9
      @florisr9 5 років тому +1

      He didn't use MP3. It clearly says AAC, which is one of the best audio codecs (the #1 spot goes to Opus).

    • @MarcosRochaTV
      @MarcosRochaTV  5 років тому +1

      Robert I appreciate this constructive criticism. I don't mind you disagreeing at all. I am not a super stickler for the maximum quality, so to me the loss of quality is not much. Again, this is my opinion.

    • @BobLinuxVlog
      @BobLinuxVlog 5 років тому

      Floris But still, 128kbit is only suited for voice memos. Even AAC, which at those low nitrates is basically the same as MP3.

    • @BobLinuxVlog
      @BobLinuxVlog 5 років тому

      Marcos Rocha I understand that. Personally in my experience, it takes UA-cam about three times longer to process my videos than it takes me to upload them. So file size to me isn’t a big thing. I use h.264. If I use h.265, yes the file size will be smaller and uploads will be quicker, BUT UA-cam’s processing is going to take a lot longer than the time I save using the smaller file sizes. Anyways, I enjoy watching your videos 👍

    • @florisr9
      @florisr9 5 років тому

      @@BobLinuxVlog that is simply untrue, AAC at 128 kbit is way better than MP3.
      There are numerous studies that compare these codecs and the perceived quality.
      128 kbit is widely used for music compression. Most people can't tell the difference between 128 kbit and 320.
