    As far as use of the Zappiti is concerned, not all files are "ripped". These days you can create UHD HDR files (using video editing software) from your good quality and high end cameras and camcorders.

    For video and audio quality, a Zappiti Neo or a Zidoo UHD 3000 would be better than the NVIDIA Shield Pro 2019 right? I don't need streaming just to read my dematerialized rip movies. Thanks

      For quality they should all really be the same. The Shield has crazy good upscaling. The Zappiti also has good video processing.

    I just don't see Kaleidescape if you already have the Nvidia (Plex & Streaming) and the Zappiti. I know they have THE BEST VERSION of the CONTENT, but for the (even above) average HT setup seems like overkill. Kaleidescape people are probably CONTROL4 /Creston tied down with Pro installer. I don't want to be dependent on a 3rd party to manage by HT nor my content. I'm all in on PLEX (w/ Nvidia) but I am thinking about a Zappiti/Zidoo/Dune. But nice video with good info.

    I currently use the Nvidia Shield TV Pro and Kodi to play 4K HDR Bluray remux files from a Synology NAS. Is there any increase in quality by going to a Zapiti, or is it pretty much just about the preference of interface? I ask because I was talking with a calibrator and he didn't seem to think the Nvidia shield was a very good/accurate source. I'm quite happy with the Shield, but always open to something else if there is a discernable difference in quality. I'm running a JVC RS2000, Panamorph DCR, and 140" Stewart StudioTek G4 2.4:1 screen.

      Hi, I just saw a review of a Zidoo Z9X 4K Dolby Vision Media Player that player apparently has menu settings to take HDR signal and transcode it on the fly back to 4K SDR. If the projector is going to be the limiting factor then something like that should allow you to play anything until you can upgrade the projector and then turn off the conversion to pass the HDR natively.

    Kaleidoscape sounds like what Vudu was trying to do before Walmart bought them. Vudu had a dedicated box with a hard drive to store content. It was a walled garden that claimed to have the highest quality streams available because it had redundant servers that could feed your box simultaneously. If you ran out of room, you could delete content from your drive and it would still be available to you to re-download. They were also the only service that had adult content which of course was removed from their catalog when Walmart bought them. I don’t know if the players were supported after that but I did read that some people moved them into their cars for long trips so passengers could watch movies. The boxes also got very hot if I recall.

      @@JilesMcCoy - that’s probably the smartest way to do it, but most videophiles like to keep our library. K-scape has gone through many variations, and will continue to do so. Keleidescape is pretty cool, in fact… only problem is you’re limited by hard drive space.
    I mean, what happens when you fill up the 72TB Terra Server ($25,000)… that’s only 1,200 4K movies (and that’s just the server… you’ll need a Keleidespace Strato C (~$5k) to play the downloaded movies.
    i say ‘only’ because i own over 900 4K Blu-ray’s, and almost 5000 movies in total (about 60% regular Blu-ray’s, 20% 4K, the rest DVD and HD-DVD.
    Granted, i dont get to scroll through titles on screen to select, and yes, i have to physically get up and visually scan my titles (like at the video store), to decide what I’m going to watch, and yes, that library takes up space in my home…but when i run out of shelf space, i need only by another shelf at $50… not another $25k server!
    So, yes, I’d rather have Keleidescape for all of its benefits, but it’s cost prohibitive.

    • @JilesMcCoy
      @JilesMcCoy  2 роки тому +1

      You don't have to store your entire library on your system. You just put things on it you plan to watch. You can download your movies whenever you want.

    • @mikewinburn
      @mikewinburn 2 роки тому

      @@JilesMcCoy - true that, if you don’t mind deleting titles from your server when it gets full and trust you’ll be able to re- download that title in the future w/o cost.
      Of Course, in that case I think one would be fine w the $4000 player/ server Strato S…. That’s like 100 4K movies that can be stored (or less if you’re also downloading Blu-ray 2K movies and /or DVD movies from K-scape.)
      That’s not a bad choice at all if you tend to buy 4K movies on release date brand new… 100 brand new 4K titles might cost about $3000

      I have a Sony ES Ultra Blu-Ray player, but really never use it. Same with my Roku Ultra.
      With a good Streamer/File Player (the Dune does both well), you can play 4K/HDR video and Atmos/DTS-HD content every "bit" as good as what you get on an disk.
      My other component is a good quality (Lenovo) mini-PC. I like to use it to help me get my files. The Dune drives connect to the PC as network drives, so I can immediately transfer content once I have it. Key tools: VPN (PIA), Real-Debrid, Kodi, IDM.
      Not hard to learn how to use a PC/Android combination like this to handle all your entertainment needs.

    I just finished watching this video and I'm sorry to say I won't buy any of these players and here's why
    (1) why buy a Blu-ray player when I can just use my Blu-ray burner inside my PC
    (2) a dedicated file player I have that it's called Kodi on a media PC
    (3) a streaming device my TV has Android TV built into it
    (4) 6,395. Canadian for a media player that only plays media I have to buy from this one particular company who supplies the player
    What happens after I spend that $6,300 and they go out of business I've got a $6,300 paperweight
    I'll stick to what I have on media PC running Kodi and my TV that has Android on it My Sony is amazing tv
    So I've cut all your devices from 4 to 2 and it cost me a hell of a lot less

    TLDR: Get a PC and replace all the devices in this video.

      No, That’s the worst advice ever.

      @@JilesMcCoy, oh really? Please elaborate why.
      There isn't a single feature that you outlined in this video which isn't doable on a PC. Absolutely everything - from disc playback, through streaming, through game emulators, through file management and playback, trough whatever your heart desires is available on a PC. A single unit, at a fraction of the price of all your listed devices.
      I'm really curious where am I wrong.

    • @JilesMcCoy
      @JilesMcCoy  2 роки тому

      @@regularathom Because you have to maintain a PC. Its good for you, but you have to think about a broader market that doesn't want to deal with the hassle of a HTPC. In the past a HTPC was the only way... but now purpose built devices are cheaper and just as good, even better. $200 on a s Shield and $200 on a disk player is less than your video card and gives a great experience. Just depends on if you are a hobbyist and want to play with a HTPC. Of course if you want the best experience possible you grab a Kaleidescape but thats a larger financial discussion.

    No wonder you don’t have a 9000 panny, you got to budget for kaleidescape! Yikes.

    Kaleidescape. Spend a lot of money to buy it, push the button and pay much more and play the movie as long as it is supported by kaleidescape.

      @@JilesMcCoy I have no doubts, but the price of the system, not the content, is exorbitant. Zapitti is much cheaper but not idiot proof.

      @@Djekkie-gj7jz It for sure has a price tag. Zappiti doesn't compete with Kaleidescape though. Its a completely different type of source.
