That Engine, combined with the Voith Gearbox & Retarder takes me back to the days (during the Late 1880’s) when I would often travel on the Volvo Alisas that Merseybus had in their Laird St Depot in Birkenhead, Wirral! One of them made a Clanging Sound against something internally when the bus’s engine was running, stopped in Neutral. I’ve always remembered that as well!
Rode this epic beast bank holiday Monday 28/5/18 on a trip to Yardley Wood & the driver gunned it all the way round. Sounds great with the Voith gearbox
The three trial ailsas ,what I don’t understand is why Alexandra’s put the older style sidelight/indicator on the front when a lot of ailsas at the time had the newer sidelight/indicators like the London metro buses it’s like they used some old stock made the front look older than it was
Sorry I forgot to mention, it was on route 57, from Aldridge to Walsall and back. Some pictures at the beginning of the video (those showing route 84) were taken at Showbus 2015. Timetable here: www.amrtm.org/events/18-feb-2017/
I’m almost certain that this was one of several different configurations of chassis tested by London Busses in the early 80s and was operated on the 77/77a routes that used to pass my place on Wandsworth Rd. The LT Staff magazine at the time noted it was the first vehicle with an external cab door since the RM.

This bus is now in Preservation with Bromley Bus Preservation Group in Kent as part of the North London Bus Collection
Engines at the front next to the drivers left leg. Nice and warm in the winter , a nightmare in the summer.

Engine Roar sounds
Sounds like a suped up MCW

They lasted in Cardiff for 25 years
Drivers at Stockwell loved the ailsa
Nice one bus!

啲門聲和行車引擎聲有点感覺坐咁昔日,大嶼山巴士的雙層雞車。。
Times when london buses wasnt ugly
What kind of ugly??
@@DANEBLUEGNOME now days they dosen't look good but only my opinion

同Voith波箱有關
中巴 AV8 是唯一配Voith波箱 鵝車
Huh?? 🤔
Too noisy
It's actually really quiet compare to the ex wmpte Ailsas that came to London in a later year
Why??
Could go like shit off a shovel though. I'd rather that than a sluggish olympian.
