Originally from Harrow and remember these whistling past my front door on the 114 route. Also riding the 136,140,183,209,258,340 and just once a 107 out of Potters Bar garage.
Ahh, the 107, that used to be one of the buses that would take me home from school, early-mid 90s... whilst I remember various models having their own weird noises, and the interior fittings look familiar (including that pole by the door that's an accessibility nightmare in the modern world but was good for swinging on, and staying alive when it was crowded in summer but the driver still kept the door open for extra ventilation), I don't recall any sounding like they had a manual gearbox or a permanently slipping alternator belt...
These machines were super fast ! I am sure that engine was turbo charged. I remember always being thrown around inside if I didn't hold on to the the grab bars. Lol
@@DavidJones-wx4im I see, what I guess thought! Becareful, don't get yourself over accident to it. Hope gladly to enjoy a tour of this bus service it is. ;)

These had gone from the West Midlands by Summer 1987. Semi-auto gearbox fitted.
Such a unique sound, only 1975 and early 76 ailsa's had the great scream sound!
This is such a good sounding bus.

I remember these as a kid "the whistling bus" what makes that noise ??
The alternator belt in front of the gearbox.
I used to love these buses as a kid as well. I used to do impressions of them. My parents loved that.
I was fascinated by these buses to I used to travel to chelmsley wood on the 99 bus route
that was the bus that hit me on the way to school
Is this the same Volvo Ailsa that you made a video on last year at the Wythall 30th anniversary west midlands travel event ?
No, that was 4738, the first of WMPTE's 50 production Ailsas. Not the same bus, but belongs to the same owner.
Ah ok :)
How could passengers travel on these far to loud
It was not that loud inside the Bus
Quite nice ride this bus... What is this little children doing on front of bus driver is? Shouldn't be sit down for owing to safety, oh dear, hmm. 😯
The young lad is the son of the driver and quite safe.
