  • Australian Aboriginal music includes the music of Aboriginal Australians and social, cultural and ceremonial observances of these people, down through the millennia of their individual and collective histories to the present day, and has existed for 40,000 years. The traditional forms include many aspects of performance and musical instrumentation which are unique to particular regions or Indigenous Australian groups. A didgeridoo is a type of musical instrument that, according to western musicological classification, falls into the category of aerophone. It is one of the oldest instruments to date. It consists of a long tube, without finger holes, through which the player blows. It is sometimes fitted with a mouthpiece of beeswax. Didgeridoos are traditionally made of eucalyptus, but contemporary materials such as PVC piping are used. In traditional situations it is played only by men, usually as an accompaniment to ceremonial or recreational singing, or, much more rarely, as a solo instrument. Although traditionally the instrument was not widespread around the country - it was only used by Aboriginal groups in the most northerly areas - today it is commonly considered the national instrument of the Australian Aborigines and is world-renowned as a unique and iconic instrument.
Traditional Music Channel is for everyone who has a passion for music.
Music is an expression of human creativity. UNESCO reports that among all the performing arts, music is the most universal and is found in every society, most often as an integral part of other performing art forms and other domains of intangible cultural heritage.
Traditional forms of music are considered carriers of cultural heritage because they represent expressions and traditions transferred through generations of a community.
With recordings from more than hundred nations our collection of traditional music offers a staggering diversity of our humanity.

The song at 5:08 put me into a trance. The didgeridoo in the background felt like it was the hum of the Earth and the animal sounds were the life that exists on Earth. Indigenous music is deeply rooted in the Earth and the universe itself. Something wells up when we listen and it's undeniably a part of us and a part of nature simultaneously.

Before 7th century we lived in Europe also, somewhere in the territory of today Iran, in much bigger state called White Croatia. So, as you, long heritage...., and also like you I have great respect for Aboriginal people.

I remember as a kid, a guy came to my elementary school with a didgeridoo and played for us. It was interesting because he talked about a technique that was used to play the instruments, where you would non-stop breathe out by simultaneously breathing in your nose while breathing out of the mouth... It is still hard to really imagine how to do it, but I guess it's something you must really train a lot for.

Circular breathing. Really hard. Continuously blowing air out your mouth using your cheeks while breathing in your nose. It's tough because using your cheeks to blow air out isn't as effective as blowing out using your lungs. I've tried when I played the trumpet. It takes practice.

that is not likely. if anyone started something like this over ten thousand years ago and it was still going, that would be an impressive feat! to then all of a sudden laugh at what you started makes no sense. then of course there is the point being that most human beings cannot circular breath constantly. I very much think you are not considering these things.

Couple decades ago I was doing a consulting project in Bath, England . Had a late lunch at a great cafe just off an important open "square" gathering place. Walked out of cafe and heard this unusual sound. Walked toward square where many dozens were gathered around something.
Sound stopped and people left. There was a young white guy with this long tube stick. He was 24 from AU and just move to UK. Learned to play from Native Aboriginal People.
Bought his tape and listened to it regularly for two decades. Finally it fell apart which made me sad. Perfect meditation vibrations.

The early Aboriginals designed the didgeridoo to recreate the Sacred OM AUM sound. The subtle humming frequency of creation. It signifies the essence of the ultimate reality, consciousness or all that is. They were spiritually on another level. It was not a musical wind instrument to start but a way of connecting with the universe during spiritual ceremonies. Its a beautiful and memorising sound produced. I could listen to it all day.

All the evidence suggests that you are correct. However a higher state of consciousness can be achieved by various means, and not only by the use of plants and herbs. It depends on the individual Shaman and the cultural context. Shamanism is probably one of if not the oldest form of indigenous spirituality - bearing in mind that we are all indigenous/native to somewhere or other.

Playing the Yidaki alone sets you into a higher state of conciousness after a while. The combination of the basic drone together with the circular breathing (which may sometimes end up being a constant hyperventilation depending on the rhythms played on the instrument) has already a hallucinogenic effect. I do not even want to think about what happens when you combine this with mind extending substances.

It's the only musical instrument that helps me meditate, even more than drums. It just sounds so natural to listen to this while meditating. This is so beautiful. Thank you to the indigenous folks who created this beautiful music and instrument
And remember this was created by dark skinned indigenous folks not the white colonizers we picture when we think of Australia who try to claim this as their culture when they are the descendents
Settlers who literally murdered indigenous people and stole these instruments always seem to think that the great non white civilizations couldn't have achieved the amazing technologies without alien contact but that is rooted in the genocidal view that indigenous folks weren't smart enough to have done these things on their own.
So from someone living on turtle island , in the settler colony we know as canada , where we have committed a similar genocide and are to this day,
Thank you to the indigenous folks worldwide who are making the most beauitful advanced music and who deserve to live on with power and respect!

also he the guide explained to us how there are specific songs that are played but there isn’t sheet music or tab like with a “normal” instrument it’s just oral tradition which i think is just so fascinating. i wonder how different the songs would be if we were to go back in time and listen to the songs when they were first created.
