You paint so beautiful Michael. It is so smooth and effortless like music. By the way if cobalt is the primary blue for you which would be your primary yellow and red.
Great question, Mina! Alizarin Crimson for red and Aureolin for yellow. But I prefer Indian Yellow instead of Aureolin. You just have to be very careful as it is a very concentrated pigment.

The tip to add a transition color between the blue and yellow to prevent green is very helpful. Thank you! I like hearing your though process as you paint. It is very important to understand your intent as you apply color.
sir myself vishnu from india , i watched your video it was awsome , i have not studied painting professionally but due to my passion for this art i started to learn it , am doing it litle bit now i have learned a lot from your sketching and paiting techniques thank you veryu much .
I love your paintings and the way you make it look so easy ! I know its not. Could I please have a list of your primary travel colours ? You create such striking colour
Hi, Connie. Thanks so much! In my travel palette, I use the following @DANIEL SMITH colors: Quinacridone Sienna, Perylene Violet, Indigo; Quinacridone Deep Gold, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Phtalo Blue (GS), Phtalo Green (BS), Neutral Tint
Fabulous demonstration and painting! Your chosen colours are so harmonious together... thank you for the insight about Perylene Violet, what a beautiful pigment. I noticed you sometimes experience bubbles in the paint as you mix on the palette. It happens to me too with Daniel Smith watercolours and I have to be careful not to bring them onto the paper.... a 'quality' that maybe should not be present in a good brand? Thanks again for sharing your wonderful works.
Dear J, Thank you very much for your feedback! The bubbles in the mixes have no correlation to the quality of watercolors. They are correlated to the brush you use to mix them, though. If the brush is hard and does not have enough moisture while you are preparing your mix, you bring in the air located in-between the individual hairs of the brush - like in a blender :) So this effect is possible with absolutely any sort of paints! Best, Michael.
Thank you for this. The amount of time you sometimes take before adding another color into a prewet area scares me sometimes, lol, but then it I all works out. So besides practicing more I need to practice patience as well. Fooey.
A wonderful sense of light you achieve here. I was interested in how you prevent blue and yellow making green, I guess Perylene is basically a red, the missing primary here, cancelling out green in favour of a grey? Great information with your commentary too.
You just make your own perylene violet with a cool red, something like burnt Sienna, or yellow and blue until you reach the desired hue. You can make any color with (vibrant) primaries, like phthalo blue gs, lemon yellow, and magenta.
I love cobalt blue, it's one of my favorites. How do you avoid muddy colors? If I don't change my water and I go directly to different colors it can get muddy fast
Hi, Nicole. Great question! The answer lies in the selection of colors for my palette. They are all transparent, so it does not matter how much and in which proportion I am mixing them. If I add a single non-transparent color, it would all turn into mud.
@@watercoloronlinemsolovyev thank you, that makes sense, I must of been using some opaque colors the few times I did that. Because I got serious mud and on videos I saw after they said have two or three jars of water all the time. I was beginning to think your paintbrushes were magical.🤣
Hi, Mary. Thank you for the interest. Personally, I never clean my palette, since the mixes that stay on the palette are the most valuable, as you cannot really make them on purpose.
