Jim's mother, Katheryne Stone Hamill, and my mother, Dorothy Stone Argoe, were sisters. While Rev. James E. Hamill was a wonderful, Godly minister, Big Jim's musical ability and stage presence came from his mother. In fact, he got his start singing in church with my mother and my papaw, Rev. Guy E. Stone. Mother played piano, and Papaw played guitar. Then Jim sang at First Assembly of God Church in Memphis, TN while his mother was the minister of music. In fact, when Jim held auditions for a quartet. Elvis auditioned for the group. Jim told Elvis to go on home because he couldn't sing! True story!!! I do miss Big Jim.
I count Big Jim a dear friend. He was the sweetest and most humble legend I've ever known. He was one of the real ones who lived for Jesus, not on the stage while wearing a suit, but off stage in overalls. Jim Hamill, the finest lead singer in Gospel music history, never acted like a legend, but as a down to earth lover of Jesus. I think of him and miss him nearly every day.
I always loved seeing Jim Hamill. You could always count on him to cut up sometime during the concert. He had such a wonderful voice. Anyone remember the live performance recording of "Look For Me At Jesus' Feet?" Still my favorite. He an Anthony and Foxy are having a grand time singing in the choir now.
Big Jim, you will always be one of the best that there ever was or ever will be in SGM.. Thank you for the inspiration and for showing me what a REAL SG singer is all about.. RIP my friend!
These songs by The Kingsmen Quartet still bless my heart. The new ones are good, Rat Dean Reese, but this sound is just a little bit better. They were a fun group and picked on one another in fun. God is blessing those who have gone onto GloryLand.
What a blessed memory of a wonderful Christian man. I am thankful to have listened to the Kingsmen almost my entire life and am thankful to the Lord for how their songs blessed and inspired me. Thank you for the video.
When did Jim pass? My heart is broke. I saw these guys shortly after becoming a Christian in Wichita Falls Texas years ago. Tim Lovelace was playing piano. They brought the house down. It was just simply awesome.
TheRealChicken_: it is @ around 02:15 into the video, but you can pull up a video with the whole song by them. Just type into the search box at top of page (Kingsmen - Glory Road).
tunkiesto: they are singing "Glory Road". There is a video with the full song you can find it by typing in the search box at top (KINGSMEN GLORY ROAD). Enjoy!
nutriunt terra: Johnny is Jay's dad, there is a Gold City reunion video of fathers and sons, where all the dad's join their sons on stage and it is delightful, look it up if you haven't seen it. Johnny sounded every bit as good as Jay, as the dad's really lay it on to impress their sons! It's a hoot!

Now 2018 I just found these southern gospel groups a year ago and their music to the Lord Jesus has healed my soul.
I used to see them in the 70s with my grandma so thankful for her !

Greatest quartet emcee ever, and one of the best lead singers too.

Big Jim had lost a step at the end but, even so, he could still sing with the best of them.
I remember it well. The Best of the best!
