Yeah, Gaither never promoted him and the Kingsmen like he did the other legends of Foxy's generation.

@@calebsgospelmusiccorner5331 Yes, but only a couple. Gaither promoted Jake Hess, Howard and Vestal Goodman, the Cathedrals, the Hoppers, the Isaacs, Jeff & Sheri Easter to name a few. Considering how popular the Kingsmen were at the time, it was surprising how little they showed up at the Homecoming videos. I think it has to do with contracts/money. The Kingsmen had their own recording label (Horizon). The McKameys were also on that label, also very popular, and I don't ever remember seeing the McKameys on the Gaither videos. The McKameys most popular song was "God On The Mountain," and Gaither had Lynda Randal sing it instead.

@@johntabler349 I think Gaither saw that the money was in the more contemporary artists, and so he shied away from having the more traditional groups appear on his videos.
Jim Hamill is always good for a laugh. You never know what is going to come out of his mouth.

You're welcome. I thought the Kingsmen were the best out there when Jim Hamill was around.

Big Jim Hammil was the best front man or MC of all time and he was a good singer to boot

This is one of - if not the last - performance by this lineup of the Kingsmen.
Later this NQC, the Kingsmen name would be abruptly retired and bought by a group of industry insiders. To say it got hairy for a couple years would be an understatement. They traveled as the Carolina Boys for a few years before eventually Ray Dean Reese waa able to acquire the Kingsmen name and restore it to the group that rightfully carried its lineage.
The irony of Ray getting the name back is not lost if you recall that the new ownership attempted to release him from the Kingsmen right after the purchase of the group's name only for the group to back him and walk. Those three years from 2001-2004 of the Carolina Boys/Kingsmen's existence would make for an interesting book if the members that lived through all of that were willing to pull the curtain back.

Yes, the insiders tried to break up the group by introducing new members. The members stuck together and so could not use the name "Kingsmen". They were blacklisted as a result, but the fans still loved them. So, Ray got the Kingsmen name back. Yes, I would love to hear all the details on that.

Cd@@Classic.Southern.Gospel there's a lot to unpack there, but I doubt you'll ever hear it sans a few underground message boards of the time period that weren't afraid to tell the truth.

Kudos to the boys for standing with him. Ray Dean is a trooper and my favorite bass singer. I would very much be interested in what all went down and how it all went down.

@@Classic.Southern.GospelI know he put a replacement Bass Singer in the Kingsmen Quartet, sometime within the last year and a half, or so. However, I'm guessing that Ray Dean Reese is still alive, and associated with the Group. He's gotta be-What-84-85 years old now?
Then again, with people like him, age doesn't seem to make much of a difference!
