no need to disconnect upper radiator hose, nor do you have to take out plastic in the wheel well. Carefully work the alternator past the upper radiator hose. thank you, great video

If you take 20 seconds to remove the upper rad hose and another 20 seconds to take out plastic in the wheel well, isn't it worth sparing yourself the five-plus minutes of frustration wiggling the alternator free? Sometimes those little extra steps that "don't have to be done" can save you time and frustration.

Well, I followed some of your methods but one tool you need to add to your arsenal is the Gear Wrench serpentine belt tool. Best tool on the planet. You can get in just about anywhere and around almost anything. If you have this there is no need to jack the motor and pull the mounts. There is clearance with the tool without doing that step. I did pull the tire/wheel just to have better access to the crank pulley. I didn't have to drain the radiator either. Only dribbled a few drops. Also, I've found it's impossible to get those splash shroud clips out without breaking them so I just bought a big bag years ago and don't even try to finesse them out and save them. Otherwise, great informative video!

It IS possible to remove the alternator without touching the top mount OR hose. Also, remove a top bolt last, being ready to catch/hold/support the alternator. With some wiggling and careful jiggling, it will come out with everything else already in place. You may need to shove the hose slightly out of the way.

You can do this yourself very simply without even jacking the car up. I did it in my works parking lot after one hot day. All that you need to do is first remove the alternator top bolts then loosen the bottom one. it will tilt to the left and the belt slides right off. same goes for reassembly slide belt on and get a buddy or a extra tool that is long enough to hold the alternator up while you thread the top 2 bolts in. Make sure that you only tighten all the bolts to 18 lb or just hand tight and your done! Anything ecotech related feel free to message me I've done it all even completely removing the subframe without a hoist wheels still attached calipers still in place no bleeding necessary!!! I'm a cheapskate so I've had to do everything as cheap as possible.

@@GrimRepair Yours has it, you have it open at 9:15 when you put it on the crank pulley, that's an access panel for the serpentine belt. If you would've jacked the car up and taken the wheel off you can see right up in there, it's a bit of an awkward position to be in but it makes the job 100x easier as you don't need to potentially destroy your oil pan by putting a jack underneath it and having the weight of the engine rest on it as well as taking off the motor mounts.

@@innanet ok thanks I will try that hole on the next cobalt and see. With this one I did those things specifically looking for an access hole for what ever reason that did not line up with the tensioner. I am glad it lined up on yours. The easiest way to get the belt off is with the tool linked in the description, you don't have to remove the wheel, or get under the car. It works great, but I didn't have it when this car needed to be fixed.

This is pretty typical on modern cars. I did a Toyota highlander alternator and it was even worse.
