    Hey , Debbie . Thanks to you , I have canned cabbage today for the first time . I did like you said . It is beautiful in the jar . I am a 75 year old widow and I canned it for convenience. I can't use a great big head of cabbage at a time . So I canned two heads I got from a friend . Thanks again . I love your videos .

    Vivian Ann, I once talked to an Amish Elder who taught me a great lesson. He said, "Every year you get one great crop, can that like crazy, because the next year it probably will not do as well." He told me to try and can up 2 years of food on certain items when the crop is great. As a Prepper, that's wonderful advice all the time. By the way---NO No-No salt! :) Thank you for watching.

    Thank you. I canned cabbage a few months ago, it was awful and all went into the compost. I now realise my mistakes, did not blanch the cabbage before putting it in the jars and also cooked it for way too long. So now I will have another go this weekend with the fresh cabbages growing in my garden

Recently ive been glad for all my jars after a critical acute illness resulting in an autoimmune disease. During flare ups, my husband can easily open jars for dinners with mo need to go shopping. We both love cabbage and i finally have a spot in my storage area for a nice addition to our meals.

    Thank you very much! :) My friend and I were discussing freezing it, and she told me I couldn't can cabbage without making it into sour kraut. I may have to watch your most excellent video once more to get everything just right, but I will. Your made this when there was really no "doomsday." With Covid 19, however, it seems there just MAY be one by next winter in the jobs and food realm. I am gardening more and will grab every food sale and preserve all I can. Thank you so much for keeping this informative video on you tube.

    Thanks for the nice video. I don't get why you are using distilled water. Does it prevent the cabbage from tasting sour? I'm using reverse osmosis water and it does have salt added for minerals. Do you know if that is okay?

  • @perbain
    @perbain  11 років тому

    No salt as that's for making cabbage into sauerkraut. If you added bacon, then you would need to pressure can it for 75 minutes for pints and 90 minutes for quarts because of the meat. That would make the cabbage mush, so its better to can it separate. Can some bacon in 1/2 pint jars (I have a video) on canning bacon. Then, just cook separate and add it together. It really would be tasty. Thanks for asking.

    Thank you for this video even though I found it 5+ years later. My mom planted cabbage in the garden this year far more then we are able to eat at one time, we will be using this to can the majority. As for the Amish Elder and their advise, ohh yes for sure follow that, its a pattern that holds pretty close in all things, gardens and nature. We watch the oaks to get an idea if a bad winter is coming, the amount of acorns dropped will let you know and so far the years its been heavy acorns have been rather nasty winters.

I absolutely love them but they are messy to make but so worth it.. everyone in the family loves them I always sterilize a 50cent piece and stick one deep inside of a cabbage roll before cooking ...on new years . Whom ever gets the money will not be broke all year.. LOL its a tradition my daddy passed on to us ... my grandson said Mamaw I got the money on new years right? Now exactly why am I always broke? I responded with the same answer my daddy gave me, " You are suppose to keep the 50 cent piece and not ever spend it that way you are never broke... LOL
