I never grew up with Sloppy Joes... Don't know why... But somewhere along the line, Manwich came along and for an easy camping meal... Id bring the sauce and already cooked meat/veg in a ziploc and I'd bring cornbread... Drop a little cheddar on that and it is some fine eatin out in the woods. It grew to be one of my dear Daddys favorites, which he only got at my table... Im gonna try making this from scratch and see if dad sends a sign hahaha. I sure hope there is Sloppy Joes in heaven so i can fix it for him again someday. I never used bacon, but he'd have loved that! Thanks as always Mr. AB, for sharing your talent with us!
Great idea to add Mayonnaise for toasting the bun. I use it when making grilled cheese sandwiches. You talking about level up… now that is a level up! You will never use butter again at least for toasting buns, sour dough bread etc. Another fire recipe for sloppy joes AB! Nicely done.

I do one extra step with mine where I cook the hamburger meat in a pan by itself then I drain the beef fat into a container and toast the buns in beef fat instead of mayonnaise. Getting that beef flavor soaked and toasted in to the bun really takes it up another level.

I'm definitely going to make this. My personal suggestion would be to replace the green bell peppers with poblano. I make that substitution in every recipe with green peppers and it adds so much more flavor.

I always save my bacon grease! I like to use it in my cornbread and other vegetable dishes.
Well I’m off to the grocery store now. What I like to use is tomato paste to thicken it up. But that looks amazing. Enjoy everyone!!

My mom used to make "loose meats". Very similar to yours but she added French's Yellow mustard too. It added some delicious tangyness
I do the yellow mustard too, and a small amount of white vinegar as well to give it a "tangyness"
