The panel is a panel from the Dutch brand “Mus” with an added layer of gesso for some extra “tooth”. The paint I use is a special oil paint (Cobra, from Royal Talens) which you can thin by using water instead of spirits. Other than that, it's the same as regular oil paint.

Enjoying your demo's. You dont show toning the surface or the drawing. Can i ask, do you tone, let it dry then draw? I get muddy paintings, so I'm wondering if its because i havent let the tone dry.

Hi Daniel, and thanks for your question! The toning I do often in bulk in advance, with basically all my panels. I put gesso on them, when that’s dry I tone them with a thin acrylic wash. When I tone on the spot, I again use a thin layer of acrylic which I rub out quite vigorously so it’s very thin. After 15 min or so I can draw on it with a Pitt Pastel pencil.
More on drawing you can see actually in the video where I paint a goldfish. Hope this helps 😉
