Last weekend's Florida Audio Expo was another successful show. Attendance was substantial-aided by heavy weekend rains, which is always good for hi-fi shows-and good industry participation, which was a combination of regional dealers and the smaller "indie" manufacturers, many of which also participate in the Capital Audio Fest and its Seattle cousin.
However, also participating were some major, well-established and/or up and coming manufacturers. In this video you'll see the latest new products from established companies like Fine Sounds, which distributes Pro-Ject and Rotel and of course also markets the Sumiko cartridge line. This year Jeff Coates chose to show less costly complete systems-one for around $2000 and one for approximately $6000- along with a series of new products.
The well-respected Japanese brand TAD returned, having made a big splash last year at the show with a big room as a new distributor made a push to re-establish TAD in The United States. I interviewed him and the company CEO who again flew in from Japan to find out what progress they've made here.
Also in this video you'll find an interview with the CEO/Founder of Perlisten Audio-a domestic loudspeaker manufacturer that's made waves-sound and other kinds-over the past few years.
Despite the vinyl revival, the show was not turntable-rich though there were some here. VPI had a major presence, and there were turntables from a few other companies but this show was mostly music from servers and streaming with the iPad ruling the source control roost. There were a few rooms with tape decks.
Major and smaller U.K. based brands like Rega, SME and others were not present, not was Technics. Even when rooms had turntables, more often than not, at least when I visited them, they were not spinning.
In other words, for the most part this was a digital show. And if it proved anything it's that digital sound has greatly improved. There was much great digital sound though when vinyl spun in the big rooms, there was another kind of sonic magic. Day two video coming up shortly!

For the TAD speakers last time i heard the words "Dual Concentric" was the Tannoy brand !
33:28 sorry Michael, the DS cartridge works by the stylus picking up vibrations and then by changes in an LED light inside the body, not by vibrational changes generating a voltage.
I’m fully aware of how this cartridge works. I’ve reviewed 3 of them.

Pro-Ject is manufactured in the Czech Republic and all of the parts are made in-house
It looks like you can call something made in "Blank", if a certain percentage of the product is made there.
The TAD ME1 speaker cabinet, stands and possibly the crossover/wiring are made in China. The drivers are Made in Japan. TAD assembles the speakers in Japan. I bet this is the same for the new $65,000 GE1(Dave forgot got to mention the price in the video) too. Based on this, if you want a TAD all made in Japan speaker, you have to buy a Reference line speaker.
@@mugen2002 yeah it's pretty fascinating when these companies want to sell.themself and quote the place of manufacture as if it was a bonus but let's be honest China manufactures everything from bad to good to great so the branding by country boast and boast is pretty.much in the past.if imm.spending that kind of money though I expect the people who construct the equipment to be paid fairly for their expertise and that's not the case in China sadly.

I was there but on Sunday, not Saturday when Michael Fremer went. I went through all the floors and vendors, including those seen on this video. They are beautiful and expensive pieces of audio equipment. The sound great as long as your music tastes are jazz, ambient and blues. Wasn't too impressed with analog (LP records) reproduction of rock music. Most (not all) of the music played came from DSD files and streaming. There were only a couple of vendors I saw that offered reel to reel players. And to this day I have not seen repeated the 1980s Nakamichi turntable feature that corrected for off center pressed records, on any of these very expensive turntables costing almost as much as a house. It's nice to visit and the people there are very kind and patient. But by Sunday I could tell they were tired. Can't blame them. I started on the 14th floor, working my way down to the 2nd, and by the 10th my head was tired of listening to piece after piece. Had to take multiple breaks. Very impressed with the digital. players and headphones on the 14th floor. Heard instruments on albums I've known for decades that I hadn't heard before, and that was thrilling. Then I saw the price tag. Someday when I win the lottery. I'm sure that whatever piece customers may have bought this past weekend, that they would not be disappointed.

Clarysis Audio “Nothing between the amp and speaker driver” HUH?? You’ve put a bunch of transformers, resistors, caps, between the preamp and amp with the “analog active crossover”. That’s like saying an electric car has zero emissions because there is no tailpipe. 😂
The amount of awful blue LEDs in the high end audio world still blows my mind 😂
Synergistic Research probably is worst at this. T+A products allow you to choose multiple colors for the display/buttons, along with dimming or turning them off.
Because blue rules ...maybe someday they will simulate candlelight (hint hint)!@@mugen2002
It’s something only the manufacturers seem to understand as it baffles everyone else. Without blue we couldn’t have white but give me red, green or amber any day. Red standby and green on.
