I grew up in the era of the original Day-to-Night Barbie, although I never had her. This is really cute, and your CYO looks great in it. The price is killing me, especially in Canadian dollars, but I might cave and get one. I have shifted to buying more outfits and fewer dolls. They take up less space, and fortunately for me I view the same mold as basically the same character (maybe from my Barbie upbringing).
This was 1 of my moms favorite outfits when it came out in the, I think, late 80s. I remember this outfit well. I haven't finished watching your video yet, but Mattel did the outfit exactly like the 1 Barbie had. The original jacket had a snap because the button would have been a little too small for a kids hands to do. The suitcase & the purse did open on the original. As for the skirt, it also had 1 layer of tulle & it was a soft thin fabric. It's supposed to flair a little when she is "dancing".
Agree about peddling with the collector label… getting a bit old to me :( Interesting all the box changes you commented on a few months back and either they listened and changed back for these or I would guess these were already in production… interested to see what 2025 boxes/releases look like
So I had the original Day to Night Barbie when I was a little girl. (Yes, I’m *that* old, lol) I have a core memory of the velvety feel of the skirt, the crisp snap of the briefcase and purse and how fragile the cardboard accessories were. I cannot remember the bodysuit or scarf but those other pieces just send me back! And I can almost smell how it smelled when she was new, lol! That said, I will not be getting it because it doesn’t fit into my collection at all. My one modern girl is a Jess mold and my one blonde with long hair that’s not Kirsten is Elizabeth and she’s Medieval… so yeah, 😂! I do hope my friend who has the AG Barbie gets this so I can at least gush over it and reminisce! As an aside, I knew from a very young age that I would be a doll collector. I originally thought it would be porcelain dolls but once I realized I could collect AG, I was sold. I knew I would never be a hardcore Barbie collector though. That said, I was gifted the Barbie with hearing aids by my AG doll friend and I was so deeply moved to finally see myself represented in Barbie, who had been an integral part of my childhood. (I wear aids and have brown hair.) I was going to stop with her, but I anthropomorphize my dolls so I thought she was lonely and got her a red haired made to move friend. Then I began thinking I could just get one of each of what I didn’t have as a kid, so I got Barbie Looks 21. Eventually I’ll get an Asian Barbie and that will likely be it. (I may add a Latina girl too, we’ll see.) I don’t want blondes because I had an overabundance of them as a girl. So 4-5 max. My focus is AG but it’s fun to fill in what I didn’t have as a child! Your Malibu is gorgeous and that outfit suits her to a T! ❤
Why would you not have her top on for her business/day look?? 🤔 The point of the scarf is to hide the sparkle. They day to night look is that you keep the top, flip the skirt, & change out the accessories. I apologize if this is coming out a little harsh, but that outfit is my childhood along with the peaches & cream gown. Which I do hope they come out with. The day to night outfit came with a ring & earrings to match & actually, it was a dressed doll not an outfit because you couldn't take the earrings out. I had though, much to my moms dismay. Lol.
Do you think it is odd that they are coming out with clothing for Barbie but no playline doll. Does this mean only the ones who got the collector doll will have an American girl doll barbie. Many of the collector dolls are still sitting in boxes. There should be a playline. Thanks for the video.
I’m a Barbie collector, and to be honest I’ve never understood why “Day to night’ was fan fav. I was happy to hear they were going to do Barbie exclusive outfits, but my pocketbook is safe from buying this 1st. Hopefully they do others that peak my Barbie collector interest, but for me “Day to Night ain’t it”.. oh yeah that might be just a calculator, cellphones wasn’t a thing in the 80’s.
It was such a phenomenon in society, the day-to-night look for women. The women's magazines were full of these ideas for humans. I think that's part of it. Remember Melanie Griffith in Working Girl? The women had entered the business era. Happy hour. Dynasty, Reagan era. Etc.
Kris showing how young and fresh he is by calling a calculator a cellphone ❤
I literally cut out the part where I was like wait, this is a whole calculator LMFAO my bad 😂😂😂
😂
Your doll is making me think Kira would make a good Barbie 😆
Looks like the Barbie case I had when I was little I had this set
I got this one!! Picking it up tomorrow!!
What a fun set. Thanks for sharing.

I saved my November reward and just bought it with my November and December rewards! I'm so excited to put it on #125!

That's not a phone. It's a calculator.

@onlyalisaawilliams Well, part of the 80s yes, but they were huge bricks. 😆

I bought it with my rewards. ❤❤
I wonder if they’re ever gonna do a Barbie American girl not the 1959 one but like an actual Barbie American girl?
They are making one. It’s not released yet
Because it’s Barbie, I almost wanted a plastic hat.
I'm interested how the pink leotard compares to the purple leotard in the dance gift set
The pink has the sequence on the entire front whereas the purple one doesn't... It's only to the waist 😢
Gorgeous! Does Malibu have a medium skin tone? Or regular light?
it beauiful as child in1980s I love this

Do you have any bratz ?

There is a confirmation that there is another limited edition Barbie on the way
@MissDepinto thanks for letting me know. I might need to move. My dolls are taking over.
They should have made two skirts! I don't like that one at all!
