I see a lot of comments about Dr. Hawking but I want to take a moment to appreciate Jane Hawking. She is the prime example of true, genuine, honest, unconditional love. Her love for Stephen kept him together, her love of him helped the world to know him the way it does. Despite knowing of his disease she chose to marry him. She could've easily let him go but she stayed, she cared for him, had babies with him, made sense of his theories. To be loved like Stephen Hawking was loved is a blessing. This piece will always remind of that love.
One beautiful conclusion I read about the movie, "He works for his entire life seeking his way to the moment when universe is born, but all he ever wished in the end, is to go back into the moment his first meet her"
+MS_ B I saw it as more of a motif for their relationship. Probably his biggest accomplishment was his theory of a spacetime singularity, the origin of the universe. To reverse time and understand that everything was once a single point. At the end of the film, the movie reverses to show the moment he saw her, because that's when everything started. Without her, he probably wouldn't have been able to change the world the way he did.
Every time that scene makes me cry... Come on! The scene with their childrens, the place and the music it's just perfect! R. I. P Stephen W. Hawking, you'll never be forgotten.
I played this music when I was in a bus passing over the river Yamuna at night (which is quite big) and it was a clear sky so the stars were visible in the heavens and in the river along with the city lights. That moment truly felt magical and this song made it more special. I felt insignificant and vulnerable but knew there was ethereal beauty in being truly insignificant and vulnerable too...it compresses your time on this earth into this beautiful montage of moments and when that moment comes you'll know that you've found something that touched your very soul!

What I have noticed is how everyone feel something different while listening to this song. Some happiness and some sadness and that's how you know this is a real piece of art when it makes you feel something. Well done!

it all started with a single glance from a single girl who was brave enough to love a man with a beautiful mind, despite the near certainty of his imminent disability and death. Without the love of his wife, he may well have died in two years as predicted by the doctors, but with her love, he has lived beyond the age of 70 years, and contributed to Physics in ways no other might ever have been able.
Eclipse so true....I never thought of this dimension.I Always felt it was about his determination but no it was all 'coz of this woman's love....beautiful and truly divine...:)
this went so well with the final scene of the movie. that last shot of stephen and jane looking at each other from across the party is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
it was incredibile how this song fitted perfectly to that time reverse scene. I find it very touching and meaningful because the central theme of stephen's studies was time, the origin of time; and the fact that this scene brought time in reverse to see stephen and jane's life together was so beautiful and mind blowing. best movie of 2015!
he always wanted to go back in time to see the moment when the universe was born, in the end he just wants to go back to the place where their love was born :)
I listen to this piece all the time, but hearing it after his passing is a new experience. Last night I watched my friend, who studies physics at Cornell, stop in his tracks and mourn Stephen Hawking's death as if he were a family member. The true extent of Hawking's influence on the world reaches beyond geniuses and intellectuals. A mind and story like his has impacted everyone who is blessed to know of his existence. While I am sad that he is gone, I can only feel hope for the great work this man has catalyzed and inspired and will continue to do so despite his passing. Rest in Peace!
Albert Einstein -> Stephen Hawking -> who's next? I also listened to this track for hundreds of times but now i can't listen to it anymore, because i will be reminded of his death now forever :( Just yesterday i found my/his book and i wondered how old he was and looked it up. Then i hoped he would be with us for many more years. Day later he died :(
Hello! How are you all? If anyone needs someone to listen, someone to talk to, or a friend. I am here to talk, listen, and be a friend. I hope you all are safe and well. Know that you are amazing and have rights as a human. I am very sorry for anything that seems bad that may have happened in your life. I want you to know that you are incredible and are capable of wonders. What matters is your inside, not your exterior. Love yourself and cherish yourself. Words cannot explain how astonishing you are. You deserve care, love, and happiness, don't let anything make you feel otherwise. Please have appropriate action for anything that you know is wrong. Anything that seems bad or wrong in your life right now will get better. Please don't do what is wrong, fighting back and harming others will not solve the problem. Please understand that and do the good thing. It will one day come back to you. The people in the world are so much more than what we know about them, not everyone opens up about the beautiful things and acts they have witnessed, not all those amazing doings are acknowledged. Please understand that and know that. If you feel like no one cares about you, know that I care about you. Keep your head up high and never give up. Together, we can be a better community. Stay safe, healthy, happy, kind, understanding, positive and strong!
I was on a plane home from Venice, Italy with my girlfriend and watched this movie for the first time. Once this score began to play, the last scene in the movie, I looked to my right and saw her asleep on my shoulder and really, truly wondered how it could be so that that Universe allowed me to ever meet her and fall so deeply in love.
+DrKirstie Hahaha...Actually I also thought what kind of a person sleep while watching such a movie and that too in theaters! lol. You should have been more clear about that.
Music is so powerful, words can't explain why the combination of these sounds bring tears to my eyes and make my mind race, it just does. Great song, so powerful!
actually it can, some notes are in the same sets of frequency with the human's audio stimuli eg. crying, laughing, screaming, etc.. brain is triggered and produces some specific hormones, feelings .
For the man who had one of the greatest personal battles ever, and still chose to teach us more about the world we live in. Stephen Hawkings, 8 January 1942 - 13 March 2018
Aivory Lagto Yep, I just love that scene, it broke my heart in two seeing this mans journey of sadness, but when I think about it, seeing what he has become, it shows that anyone can become the best, anyone can pick themselves off of the ground and create beauty in this harsh world.
+TheBlack Swordsman Just watched this movies, when they went back through time. Seeing him walking/dancing/talking broke my heart. When I saw it, I just imagined being in his shoes and seeing videos of himself when he was healthy... I would not be able to hold back.
Idk why but listening to this just takes me back into time, to the first moment I saw this movie. pretty much like how the movie itself reversed back to the beginning of when he met Jane. The music and everything in this movie will make it feel as though he is still here. You will be missed, Mr Hawking
Oh the music and this remarkable ending...definite combination for your watery eyes...just seen this movie after he passed away....it gives a whole new impact in this scenario...#RIP stephen hawking!
I've watched that movie 6 times in a single weekend and I can visualize the entire end cutscene where they're rewinding through his life when i listen to this song
Same I balled like a baby so much I cried so much especially at the reversal scene and then when it stops on the picture of stephan that's the bit that gets me the most. A wonderful biopic of a truly wonderful person.
Amy Phillips Yea, but the thing that's really messed up about him is how he left his wife for a woman he just met after Jane gave basically her whole life to him.
***** At that part when she said " I'm leaving you" i start crying , they should remain together ... i dont have nothing against Jonathan but he should back off ... This 2 movies made me cry , Titanic and this one.
Here I am, having listened to this song in 2012, and now becomes popular after the release of "The Theory of Everything", and I learned that it was in The Theory of Everything when I watched the film, and at the end, I was like: "I know this song!"
Such a melancholic song. Beyond beautiful. I was checking the soundtrack for "The imitation game" and I'm glad I click this one when I saw it. Realxing passive sadness at its finesse.
I tear up without realising why whenever I hear this soundtrack. People like Stephen Hawking don’t just live, they impact the world in ways that slowly unfold over time. I’ve watched the movie so many times, feels fresh even now. RIP Stephen! May his genius continue to shine light on future generations to come!
Hearing this soundtrack reminded me of this quote I read a long time and stuck with me; "When I die, don't come to my grave to tell me how much you love me and how much you miss me, because those are the things I want to hear when I'm still alive..."
Professor Hawking your existing life helped a lot our human race we deeply thank you a lot. I'm a 20 old boy who cried watching your film. Expect from a brilliant mind you were a man with a big heart. Thank you for everything. I hope wherever you are now, find the equation you were always searching for. Thank you Professor Stephen Hawking
Goodbye Stephen Hawking. Even though you are no longer with us, the memory of you and your words will live on as long as the human race exists. Master Yoda said it best: “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.”
Rest in peace Stephen! Thank you for sharing youre wisdom into this world. As a scientist dying on PI-day(14.3 becomes 3.14) must be something to be proud of . 8 JAN 1942--14 MAR 2018
The beginning of true wisdom is in the realisation that there no fight between good and evil only a conflict between understanding and misunderstanding (or that which we have not yet learned) and unintended consequences. There is, arguably, no fight between science and religion as the truth is ultimately potentially found through both, only a conflict with the misunderstandings of our past and a desire to take the next step - hopefully in the service of more than ourselves. ... Love the song!
Kris K, I understand that you may be searching for some sort of statement that sums up all the confusingness that comprises human life and that is why you chose to write that comment, but your sincere yearning for that statement should not cause your critical thinking abilities in your head to shut down. Though you and many others may want what you said to be correct because it sounds nice or simplifies or appears beautiful or whatever you want to call it, we should evaluate whether what you are saying holds up to speculation. For example, is there really "no fight between science and religion." Maybe if you view religion as a way of living-- more like cultural traditions-- then yes of course it doesn't conflict with science, in the same way that Thanksgiving does not. But for the majority of religious people on this planet, religion is not just a collection of traditions or a source of identity, it is also their explanation for where the universe came from and what the so called "purpose" of it all is. And this my friend does seriously conflict with science. Any statement about physical reality will conflict with science if it is not understood through evidence, as science abides to. If you say that God created the universe 6 thousand years ago that seriously conflicts with science. If you say that evolution did not occur and the biblical story is more accurate, that seriously conflicts with science. If you say that prayer works well to cure diseases (aside from psychological benefits), that seriously conflicts with science. And even if you accept what science shows and say, for example, "evolution occurred, but it was guided by God." Of course, science has no way to disprove that, but that way of thinking -- believing without evidence-- completely conflicts with the scientific way of thinking-- believing based on sufficient evidence. You say that "truth is potentially found through both." Are you sure about that? Is there reason to believe that religion has led us to truths? If so, what are your reasons? Are these truths about how to live and be happy and feel fulfilled with one's life or truths about how reality works? Those are two very different types of truths. I would argue that using truth in the former sense is confusing the word with its actual meaning-- which deals more with the latter sense. So maybe our disagreement boils down to a disagreement about semantics regarding the word 'truth' which is not uncommon in debates. I know that body-shakingly wonderful songs like these can cause us to conjure up inspiring rhetoric which can certainly be persuasive, but that is why we should be even more careful when dealing with these grand statements-- especially if our goal is, as you say, finding truth.
No one, certainly not I, was indicating that the realisation of profound truths was any more than a potential on either path. Religion has a structure which can be limiting in terms of searching for greater understanding (as can academia albeit often in different ways), however both can inspire the search for deeper understanding outside generally accepted orthodoxies. Much as we are taught scientific theories in our infancy and great scholars compete to take the next step in oftentimes purely theoretical understanding, there will always be spiritual students who fail to be satisfied by accepted orthodox understandings and demand a direct spiritual experience rather than blind obedience... do we give religion no credit for the role in creating the mystic determined to know and teach inspiring insights beyond the understandings of their predecessors? While the scientist and the mystic (or sage) are profoundly different, a search for truth beyond the misunderstandings of the past unites them. Religion's misunderstandings and bad or incomplete theories can delay the progress of a society, however all realisations, however flawed, can inspire others to correct, overcome and surpass humanity's past limitations. Can we just say what we were mistaken about in the past needs to be overcome rather than condemn in their entirety traditions that may continue to inspire others to search for truth in their own way, far into the future? My earlier comment was intended as a reflection on the illustrious Professor Hawking's quote by the poster of this video. I am sorry if my words troubled you (and sorry if the above troubles you further... each to their own).
Its all good-I wasnt troubled i just was commenting on your claim that religion and science dont conflict. It is certainly correct to say that religion of all sorts has inspired scientists to discover more and learn about the universe which they believed god fashioned with his own hands. But to say that religion inspires us to find truth is very different from saying that religion is a means of reaching truth. Hanz zimmers interstellar music makes me crave with all my heart to know the answers, but I would not say that Hanz zimmers imterstellar music is a means of finding truths, meaning a system of thought that gets us closer to understanding reality through its methods. Religion and science share that sense of wonder as a source no doubt, but that doesnt mean they are both valid means of discovering truth about reality.
“Look what we made”.... Even now I still cry at that scene and this song makes it even better. Stephen Hawking was truly an amazing man. And hats off to the man who created this amazing piece. RIP Stephen Hawking❤️

I’ve honestly never truly fallen in love with an instrumental piece before ; I usually harbor the lyrics in music as much as I adore them. But this, this is different. It is as if its lyrics are woven into the melody itself. You can hear the words. You can sense what it is talking about, as if it is one step above speech, and if it actually had lyrics, it would somehow stain its unbelievable and raw beauty. Simply extraordinary!
This movie is incredibly fantastic, we've seen it several times now - and the music is so moving and beautiful, one can just close eyes, sit back, and go on a 7 minute emotional adventure listening to just this one piece. Tears. Time 6:08 just beyond words.

Would love to hear it 😁👌
What I have noticed is how everyone feel something different while listening to this song. Some happiness and some sadness and that's how you know this is a real piece of art when it makes you feel something. Well done!

This song just makes me sob my head off. I remember the scene so well.
@MaGuffintop what is the movie name ?
@MaGuffintop thanks 🌹
it all started with a single glance from a single girl who was brave enough to love a man with a beautiful mind, despite the near certainty of his imminent disability and death. Without the love of his wife, he may well have died in two years as predicted by the doctors, but with her love, he has lived beyond the age of 70 years, and contributed to Physics in ways no other might ever have been able.
lmao
Eclipse Beautiful. ❤️❤️✨✨
Eclipse so true....I never thought of this dimension.I Always felt it was about his determination but no it was all 'coz of this woman's love....beautiful and truly divine...:)
Oh yes
this went so well with the final scene of the movie. that last shot of stephen and jane looking at each other from across the party is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
it was incredibile how this song fitted perfectly to that time reverse scene.

Never cried so hard in a movie. Well done.
I also listened to this track for hundreds of times but now i can't listen to it anymore, because i will be reminded of his death now forever :(
Just yesterday i found my/his book and i wondered how old he was and looked it up.

Music let to Einstein's intuition revealing the theory of relativity. Not math. Music. In his case it came in the form of Lina

Rest in peace, Dr. Hawking
+DrKirstie I can't fall in love with a girl who fall asleep in front of this movie

I've watched that movie 6 times in a single weekend and I can visualize the entire end cutscene where they're rewinding through his life when i listen to this song
its my favourite movie of all time. seen it like 40 times
I watched it once and do the same. It takes your breath away.
This scene in the movie makes me cry all the time. I wish Jane and Stephen were still together.
***** he could tell Jane had feelings for Jonathan
So, marriage is all about working things out. They should've really talked about it.
***** At that part when she said " I'm leaving you" i start crying , they should remain together ... i dont have nothing against Jonathan but he should back off ...

Here I am, having listened to this song in 2012, and now becomes popular after the release of "The Theory of Everything", and I learned that it was in The Theory of Everything when I watched the film, and at the end, I was like: "I know this song!"
Rainbow Dash I really liked it. :)
Same~ hahaha I've Known the song.. but when this comes up at the end of the movie, it's just beyond emotional..
Totally related! ;-)
I know! It happened the same thing to me! I cried so much at the ending though... It is a great movie and a great musical piece to end it with.
I imagine some people were tempted to reply to you saying "HIPSTER!" XD I'm really glad Theory brought this song into my life. So beautiful
The last conversation, "Look what we made" just made the story outstanding, precious and love every way.
RIP genius, your life and achievements are an inspiration to many, including myself. Thanks for your scientific contributions.

Such a melancholic song. Beyond beautiful. I was checking the soundtrack for "The imitation game" and I'm glad I click this one when I saw it. Realxing passive sadness at its finesse.
I was doing the same!
1:47 is when the emotions run high for me. So powerful that it can make you think of the happiest moments in your life and the saddest.

"The boundary of the universe must be special. And what can be more special than the fact that there is no boundary?"
RIP Stephen. Thank you very much for showing and teaching us the secrets of the Universe
What you've written is as profound as the song itself.
Darn, this thread might be the first rational youtube comment discussion _in the history of time._
“Look what we made”....
Even now I still cry at that scene and this song makes it even better. Stephen Hawking was truly an amazing man. And hats off to the man who created this amazing piece. RIP Stephen Hawking❤️

Heard about his death and immediately had to come here to listen to this piece. Wow I can't believe he's gone.
By the way, THIS, is an amazing piece of art. Can't stop listening it.
It makes me cry every time I listen to it (and it's been dozens of times now).
💙💫
RIP Stephen.
You will stay alive forever in our minds.
