Brisbane is definitely setting itself up to be the next Melbourne. But with way better weather! So we just need to invest more in infrastructure/housing and public transport to keep up with the growing population. It seems to me like the Brisbane Metro is actually like Lightrail without tracks. We need an actual metro (underground rail network) in addition to that(tightly couple the SEQ region) and build a couple of landmarks such as the long talked about First Nations Cultural Centre to make the city more interesting for tourists. At the moment, there really isn't nearly as much things to see and do for tourists in Brisbane compared to Sydney or Melbourne - when tourists think of Queensland, they only think about the Goldcoast as the most exciting place to visit. And some people visit Sunshine Coast/Noosa. And of course, Cairns/Great Barrier Reef.

personnally, I think North Brisbane needs more public Transort investment, as the current projects like brisbane metro and Cross River rail are only really benefitting south side residents

The big thing that needs to come from the Olympics is making the cbd and other areas to become more 24 hour. Large world city are busy all the time the cbd is dead on the weekends.

after the Olympics, Brisbane LIVE should replace the Entertainment Centre. As great as it is, the current Entertainment centre at Boondall is too far from the CBD and is getting old. It just needs to go and that land it sits on needs to be returned back to the Boondall Wetlands

Couldn't agree more Boondall is too far, turn it into housing or parklands. F1 needs to go through the city over so you can step out of your hotel room straight onto the track.

@@outdoortherapy6596 Maybe the Old Brisbane Golf course then in the city?

@@outdoortherapy6596 My Mum work at the Entertainment centre and the place is already starting to show its age and a dire need for refurbishment. They are trying there best to keep the facilities clean and modern but the place is definitely worn out a lot. There are some plans that it could be demolished after the games, but that depends on whether the Government decides to lift their weight, get a budget and build the Brisbane Live Arena. They could also keep it after the Olympics as a more local venue, as is also been looked into, however that would require it to undergo a major refurb, which is estimated to possibly cost significantly more than just demolishing it. But as our wonderful city gets bigger and better, then we may actually need both the Brisbane Entertainment Centre & Brisbane Live venues operational.

thanks for the video! I'm doing a uni assignment about designing resilient landscapes with a focus on the Woolloongabba priority development area to be adaptable for the massive change in landuse during and post Olympics. Hopefully the infrastructure built to host the Olympics is being designed to transform into usable space for residents and tourism. I think hosting the Olympics can be a great opportunity to rapidly advance the cities transport, economy and tourism if it is designed effectively. I wonder if any natural disasters like flooding or a possible future pandemic is being considered and what contingencies are in place for those possibilities.

Brisbane Arena is deeply needed, the Bullets cap at Nissan arena is about 3.5, and is sold out, and with the increase of basketball in australia and growth of the NBL we need a larger venue, Sydney, Melbourne get 10k week in week out, even Adelaide gets close to that, cairns has more.

This has been my argument all along to people who are against the Olympics and believe the money would be better spent on infrastructure. Well without the Olympics that infrastructure doesn't get built because the cost benefit analysis doesn't stack up. All these huge projects in south east QLD would just get canned and nothing gets done. So in 8 years time we're no better than we are now. With time comes progress and if we're to ever grow a slice of the economic pie in south east QLD it has to be done.

Depends whom you ask... If it is a politician, any politician, they will fervently agree that " it will put XXX on the map " ! After all, they are not paying for it - we are ! Google Maps is actually pretty " pro active " - they have already put Brisbane on their map, for a small fee. Go Brisbane - just keep the bill, ok !

F1, hell no. What a colossal waste that would be. Looking at the facilities elsewhere in the world where this event is run, where could we put it other than far, far out of town? As for the Olympics as an excuse to do things that may or not need doing... if we are not already investing in the infrastructure why do we need a deadline to make it happen? Need a plan for growth to be sure, but not by rushing to put on some mega event with a deadline.
