This recording is one of my favorites - I truly appreciate Andsnes' candor about wrestling with this piece to find it's meanings; he is one of my favorite pianists - no wasted gestures - just pure music making at its finest/
I love this piece, and in my opinion Leif Ove Andsnes is the most purely pianist of this time! And he plays not only ''the greatest pieces for piano''...: also the small but beautiful pieces, with a lot of emotions.
Outstanding!
when i saw this compilation i fell in love with him: Andsnes, WOW the guy is amazing. He is beautiful...
His Grieg and Janacek recordings are fantastic.
Magical
@longharied I've heard that Grieg composed this ballade after both his parents died. They both died within a short period. We can hear it's a piece with sad emotions, like sorrow, a really beautiful piece.
i really like him playing Grieg
@blitzshot23 This is only an excerpt from the Ballade in G minor, opus 24. He made a compilation with this piece along with the Concerto in A minor, and a couple of Lyrical Pieces ona recording called "Ballade for Edvard Grieg"
I'm currently working with the piece myself, have fun with it! :D
I want the documentary about the story of this piece
what compilation is this from?
its just i cannot find the sheet music for this piece in any bookshop =/
@jeanludvig hey!
thanks so much for telling me! i really appreciate it. i was able to find the sheet music after that. I've started learning it already. be done in no time :P
thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Andsnes is perhaps better than anyone alive, playing anything. And he seems to be on his very best playing Beethoven. Grieg, Liszt, Rahmaninov and Schubert.
And the reason this is so nice? Because most of the piece is missing from this performance! The full Ballade has some nice moments but it's not a great composition because it's far too long with not enough actual material. Unfortunately, that often seems to be one of Grieg's traits. Not that I dislike all Grieg's music. (far from it!) Anyway, shortening the piece is definitely a good idea!
