Give me your favourite moment or match of The Daddies, I'd love to hear them 😊🙌🏻 Thanks for watching everyone. Feature length video on these 2 legends will be happening. When though I couldn't tell you right now. Come back to this comment in a few months 😅
@@BenBeckmanBadminton definitely all england 2019 SF and F. All england 2023 QF and SF match are another one. I had to stop the car and park to watch it !! From 20-20 to 29-27. Australia Open F against Yuta-Endo was also amazing.
For me it's either 2014 Asian Games F or 2013 World Championship F for their first run, and 2019 All England F or 2023 All England SF for their second run
No controversies inside or outside of court, just pure skill, discipline and sportsmanship. They need to be as an example for the youngsters out there. I was still amaze and in disbelief when they can continue to play at that age, like how they can manage to play at a tournament and managed to be world champs in 2019 and even in All England final 2023 (the semis was also damn crazy, btw), like hooooowww !? I know how it be in my 30s, and yet they were still playing. Just absolutely unbelievable. I'm still in a weird feeling between sad and happy for their retirement. I wish all the best for them! As a big fan of the Daddies, Thank you for the cover, Ben. Your contribution in badminton world is also huge. Thank you for the great time and memories, The Daddies. Simply Legendary!
Thank you Ben for short documentary the daddies video This is very beautiful and touching. Unfortunately I have never witnessed their match live in his long career. You are very lucky and have good memory about them. Happy retired the daddies. Once again, thank you.
I was in the Utilita Arena for that 2023 final as well. The whole crowd stood up to clap at the end of their final. It was my first All England and my first time watching them live. I will never forget this display of class and sportsmanship🙏. When I started watching badminton in 2020, I never understood why people loved these two so much, but my respect for them grew with every tournament they took part in. Happy Retirement 'Daddies'!
Another great aspect to watch when the daddies play is their honesty, if there's ever a moment when the shuttlecock touches the racket and become foul, they acknowledge it and often award the point to their opponents.
That All England 2023 final, as was told by Fajar Alfian. “I wanted to stop, no players wanted to play while the opponent’s injured, more over this is our respected seniors. So I said to him “it’s ok to stop, Bang Ahsan, the injury could get worsened.” to which Ahsan jokingly replied in informal manner “No lah, your All England win would be lame (if I stop).” 😂 Such a sweet menace to the youngsters while in pain 🤣
Hello Ben, thank you for this great videos about "The Daddies". But at 3:16 you should not only mention the late great Markis Kido but also one of his then opponents Jung Sae-Sun who had the same fate as Kido, even 3 years earlier. Greetings, Célestin
Thanks for making this video. The Daddies impressed me with their skillset, staying power, sportsmanship and on-court behaviour. They could teach a thing or two to other players on how to conduct themselves. These are what legends are made of. Terima kasih. Side note: Actually Hendrawan and Markis Kido are one of my all time favourite MD pair. I simply love watching them play. Kido’s jumping smash from the baseline was simply fantastic. Taking this opportunity to mention him too as one of the all time MD greats! In memory of Markis Kido, may he rest in peace.
Without question among the most elegant and sublimely skillful men's doubles pair it has been my pleasure to watch in person. The ability of them both to read their opponent's intentions, seemingly before even their opponents knew what those intentions were, is absolutely mind blowing. As a player I just marvel at how they "know" where to be on the court. It gave them a quality of play that more resembled a couple of seasoned old sages ambling around in metaphorical smoking jackets and slippers rather than the frenetic rage and thunder experience that most men's doubles typically slide into. It's a facet of their playing style that stands out as you watch them and why they are, and will remain, legendary in the sport.
Countless times of goosebumps while watching this video... i have been declaring myself as a big fan of the Daddies specially hendra setiawan since he is my first ever and always number one badminton hero since following this sport in 2008... but last week i dont know i wasn't really willing to go to Istora on the final day to witness their retirement ceremony eventhough i went on the semifinal... i did wonder why, perhaps i'm not really the big fan i thought i am.... but then after watching this video i realize, that i'm still in denial, i don't wanna see them say good. Sadness is a strange feeling.
Thank you Ben ! I have been watching daddies for decades or at least probably the only match that I would not miss. Your video helped me to make a closure to the fact that I wont be able to see their match anymore. Plus your effort speaking in Indonesian at the end, it puts smile on to my face. Thank YOU ! All the best always !
While everyone remembers what they did in their later years, for me their first run has to be acknowledged even more. From pairing up as Hendra came back from independent, to winning against Cai/Fu, and the Korean dominance in the mid 2010s. If not for them, who knows if we would've seen the birth of the Minions, FajRian, BaKri, and all those other pairs from Indonesia
@@BenBeckmanBadminton Oh really? Coz I follow almost all your videos and this time it makes me a little dissatisfied, plus they are the idols of all badminton lovers.
Ahsan - look at eyebags, likely didn't sleep well knowing tomorrow's will be last, end of game, end of career, end of era. very emotional while Hendra is cool as cucumber.

Definitely that 2023 All England Semifinal. I really don't have thought that they can win that game. What a game. And thanks for this great video Ben.

That AE SF against Liang/Wang is one of a few matches that makes me really nervous. Definitely unforgotten match.
