    Toronto Blue Jays have been known to literally live in the stadium. Rogers Centre has a hotel built into the stadium, some rooms have views of the field, others don't. Roberto Alomar was one of the first to do so and other players followed his lead. In fact if you watch the Toronto Blue Jays 1992 retrospective video, you see Alomar and Candy Maldonado being cheered on by the cleaning staff as they leave for Game 6 of the 1992 ALCS. David Cone and Roger Clemens both lived in the hotel. With stadium security already onsite it makes sense.

    • @jaysantos536
      @jaysantos536 2 роки тому +3

      Clemens had from 4 to 6 different "roommates" in the time he was there. Said it was the best "situation" ever for hiding chicks because he would just change rooms all the time whenever he changed women. He even had "code names" or #s for them sometimes. He had a dude in the hotel part of the building "take care" of him and that dude would get tipped at least $200/day when Jays were in town. Roger would call "Jay" (how clever) and say "Put #4 in Room #xxxxx for today and tomorrow and then "Put #2 in Room #xxxxx Sat and Sun. And make sure #4 gets flowers and chocolate and #2 gets whatever champagne she wants. What a life!!

    My friend from college was a trainer for the Pirates and then the Cubs. When the teams played in Cinci, I would drive down from Toledo to visit, and catch some games. Both of those teams stayed at the Hyatt in downtown Cincinnati. I was told by the hotel staff that all the MLB teams that came to town to play the Reds, stayed at that hotel. I stayed there a few times as well, if rooms were available. Not a bad hotel, but it was not the greatest. I was told that teams like the hotel because it was within walking distance to the stadium, and they offered certain amenities such as a private entrance, and a VIP elevator for the players to use. I remember that Bonds, Sosa, and a few others were often mobbed by fans when they came back to the hotel after the game. It was nice sitting in the hotel bar, at night after the game, having a couple beers with my friend, and being introduced to some of the players and coaches who might stop in. I truly enjoyed those times.

    Q+A: Why do pro baseball teams have such short turnaround for players' moving around? Trades, call-ups, send-downs and releases all seem to happen on the shortest notice possible to players. Don't players sometimes get told to report somewhere on the opposite side of the country the following day?

Second, there was usually lots of fans hanging out there and security that made it hard to get in the elevators. how long would a hopeful play AAA ball before he realizes he needs to forget it and just get a regular job? Not being smart, I just wondered. Must be tough trying to support a family even if you wife works full time

    That sounds miserable in the minors with a snoring roommate or whatever other annoying stuff they do. You're supposed to perform at peak levels. How do you do that without some solid sack time?
    Now you're in San Diego and it's SOOOOO loud! How do you get decent sleep!?!?!
