Never been a big Moc toe guy but cool to hear about the arch support in there, especially at that price. I have a pair of their Loggers in Waxed Flesh that I've been beating on for about 6 months now and man there's some wild value to be had with Thursday!
I currently have two pairs of Thursdays boots and they are great . I purchased the Diplomats in the burnt copper last week and should have them this coming week can’t wait to see how they work out .I feel better about my purchase after seeing your review I have never owned a moc toe boot before and when I was looking at them I wasn’t keen on the big moc toe look , but when I saw these I thought that could work . They just looked slimmer. Thanks for sharing
Red Wing guy here who just bought a pair of these in burnt copper based on this review. And lemme tell you, you have this spot-on. Everything you say here is absolutely spot-on. Also, just straight out of the box, these babies were beautiful and smelled even better. Just...that nice new leather smell that permeated the entire house. I like that. So. Wearing them today, the 2nd day. Just put 6.5 miles on them and have had them on for 8 straight hours. Very very little break-in pre-blister forming at the left heel. Nothing to really write about. I imagine that by tomorrow everything should be perfect. I plan on putting on at least 5 miles tomorrow. Fantastic fit. I am a size 12 sneaker and got the 11.5 and they fit me like my super-duper running shoes. Amazing boot. Also, goes with shorts really well. Just Google some images for outfit ideas. Love these--they are my first moc toes. Decided for the TBC instead of my usual Red Wing brand for 2 reasons: TBC sizes their D boots a little on the wider side. I am in between a D and an E. When possible, I always get the E though. These are perfect for me, even though they're a D. But like I said, they lean toward an E. The 2nd reason I got the TBC over the Red Wings: lower profile toe box. Absolutely wonderful. Plenty of room, despite the lower profile. I am so impressed with these TBCs that they have quickly become my favourite. Your review is absolutely spot-on. The review made me decide to get them. And I'm glad I did. They are gorgeous, well-made, fit me amazingly, and are my new summer footwear, believe it or not. They overtook my Red Wing Wabasha chukkas for summer--those being very light as you may know (discontinued model, though) with the canvas on the side. But these...man, these are the jam! Thanks for another wonderful review.
I initially missed how perfectly proportioned this boot is for actual daily use. I regularly wear Viberg, White's, Alden, and Grant Stone boots and this particular model is right there with them in style and comfort. Just wore the black yesterday and the leather has a beautiful patina that's only getting better with time.
A good, thorough review. I agree with your assessment, too. These are insanely comfortable immediately, probably the combo of the poron and the unusually good arch support, but I found sizing up to 13 from my 12.6 Brannock size worked best for me or my big toe got rubbed raw. I’ve had Red Wing Moc toes and these are definitely an easier break-in. My only real complaint, albeit minor, with my Thursdays is the interior leather lining is so slick that I find myself sliding forward in the boot, rubbing toes. I agree with you that unlined, rougher interior would be preferable for most people.
Thanks for the reply...You are now my second favorite Australian after Paul Hogan...My love for the first Crocodile Dundee movies started 35 years when I was 12. But I enjoy your honest reviews and professional yet everyday man personality.Cheers mate.
I like you, have owned many pairs of moc toe boots,,as a matter of fact i still do. These have been my favorite for the last 30 years. I have this exact pair of 11.5 burnt copper diplomats. I also have some bull run and two pairs of whites perry. I just disposed of a pair of 5 year old red wings that were beyond any further repair. It hurt.. I bought the first pair of perrys to replace them and with wider sizes available I don't think I'll ever go back to the red wing. The diplomats were purchased for casual use and I love them for that purpose, the glove leather lining is absolutely luxurious. They're snug, but the lining actually in my opinion helps. The whites are far and away my favorites, they may not be for everyone, but for my foot and use the finest of its type yet. Good video!
Best boot in the market IMHO. I did have a break-in period of about a week or two. After the leather and cork molds to your foot you can't beat the comfort. It is hard for me to explain the comfort level, really. I used to get terrible calf cramps when wearing any other type of shoe or boot. Since I've been wearing these everyday, however, I haven't had any foot or calf problems. I'm a lifer with this boot, hands down.
Your review was great and informative! I get a sense of what it would be like to wear these boots, whether I get heel slip or not. Moreover, you can extol the virtues of a boot without making sound like a sales pitch. Furthermore, you explain why someone might prefer leather line or not. Also, as a suggestion at the 7:05 mark when you are walking on the street it would be cool if you had icons over the coat, jeans & bag directing the viewer to the reviews you did on those products.
It seems to me that Thursday excels in pretty much everything lol. I bought a pair of Captain's about a month ago and I'm in love! Even the belt is great
I’m saving up to get these. I’ve always wanted moc-toe boots - the arch support that I hear about on every review of these is a big selling point! Thanks for the great, thorough review!
Nick, an update. I did get a pair. They are great. Super comfy. Not a work boot but if you need a casual knocking around town boot, not bad at all. Not crazy in price. I can see that by the time I need to resole these things will feel like slippers. My feet thank you.
Love the look of these boots but I have had my captain boots for about 3-4 years now and the poron at this point has completely flattened out and even caused some ankle pain since my ankle sank down and was being rubbed by the counter. I know their new counters are really soft now and crushable so maybe you won't get that ankle pain when the poron flattens.
Thanks for the great review Nick! I love my Thursday Boots and Th Diplomat may be next to be ordered. This was one my wife preferred most when I asked her opinion on all of their styles. Have to get me pair.
It’s a great looking boot, it’s probably gonna be my first Thursday boot. I’d also love to see it in some of their shinier leathers, and with the traditional rubber studded sole & heel.
Spot on review. On mine I notice they're warmer also as a result of less area on the top, on the front of my toes. They almost rub in that area so that's taken getting used to. I like that they're slightly lighter. I got them in dark blue. Most of my boots are brown so it was a welcome addition. But the Tobacco leather looks nice and I might go for them too.
Hi Nick from Stridewise, great review! I love the sleeker take on the moc-toe that the Diplomat provides, I personally wish it had a better build though, more akin to a red wing or white's perry. Could you do a review on the Crown Northampton Sneaker collection (overstone and harlestone)? Rose Anvil did a teardown and was very impressed, and I am curious as to how you would rate them vs the Koios that you have lauded in the past!
Rewatching this now that I’ve seen the lugged sole option released on these. Could Thursday compete with the Grant Stone Brass boot for overall moc toe value now? Maybe some UA-cam channel will review that? Thanks for the great content 👍
Originally the Thursday Diplomat was a “faux” moc toe, exactly like the Alden Indie. It was pretty much a President model, with the exception of the stitching on the toe. Then around 2018 they completely changed the boot by switching to the white Vibram wedge soles, and making it a true moc toe. I have a pair of each, and they are completely different boots, but they are both Thursday Diplomats. Both are great boots.
Thank you for the great videos Nick Why does Thursday boot co. Have so few styles and colorways of the diplomat? Only 2 styles with dedicated soles. 11-2024.. I think there should be as many styles and colorways as the captain. This was one of their original flagships. I think this would be a real killer. It looks like they abandoned the dedicated heel moctoe. Thank u again mate for the I formative research and dedication
Been waiting for this review! You have said in the past that Thursday’s captains were very comfortable boots, how do these compare (for general comfort)?
Probably the 3rd time I've seen this review. My burnt copper pair is being delivered today. This will be my first pair of boots in years. Very excited. Great review.
Awesome review!! Been thinking about getting these for my Dad as an entry into the world of quality leather boots. He likes this style of boot more than your traditional service boot and I think the lack of a need for major break-in would probably be beneficial.
How do these Thursday Diplomats compare against the Rhodes Owen Boot, another sleek moc toe? The Owens are also fully leather lined and welted. Both the Thursday and Rhodes use leather from the Le Farc Tannery in Mexico
Got confirmation this afternoon that my pair had shipped😎👍 Looking forward to owning a wedge sole boot as it’s been a long time as everything I own has a heel, also picked up the Burnt Copper leather after going around and around about it or the Arizona Adobe‼️Hopefully I made the right decision and this will be my forth pair of Thursday Boots and will be picking up a 3rd pair of Captains in the Canyon as it has really caught my attention & love the vintage look of the leather. Another solid video, keep up the great work 🍻🍺🍻
I initially ordered the Throughgood moc toe but they were way to boxy and had heal slippage on one boot. Still not a huge fan of the moc toe design but when I run out of new boot options these are what I'll go with.
Speaking of Thursday Boots, I hope you consider doing a review of the Vanguard in Waxed Cacao leather. It is a unique build and looks great but a review would be helpful
Hey Nick, nice review of Thursday’s Diplomat Moc toe boot. It looks like Thursday continues to put out some nice boots. I haven’t purchased any Thursday’s boots yet, but with all the good reviews, I might have to get me a pair. Take care, Ed.
I have these, the Danners and the Nisolo Mateo, you should do a video on those, they’re also very sleek and fit nice, more towards fashion instead of work
I was really looking forward to seeing this review. I just bought a pair at the start of the year and have been loving them. I had been seeing this boots in your Instagram posts, but couldn't find any video or article from you about them.
Another good review. I have a pair in Adobe and I love them. You hit it on the head with saying it's a modern take on the moc toe, which I prefer. That copper color looks really good with jeans by the way.
You should definitely check out the Red Wing Wacotas. Actually, they changed the name, now it is the "Weekender Canvas Moc". It has a lower moc toe and a canvas panel on the shaft. It is a great summer boot! I was really surprised by them. I've come to enjoy them more than I originally expected.
I have the discontinued version of the Wacotas (the Red Wing Wabasha chukkas w/the canvas) and I can attest they are fantastic summer boots. But, as in my review above, this particular TBC Moc Toe has taken over as my summer boot--despite it NOT being a summer boot. It's perfect enough for my taste and I love how it goes with shorts. But yes, the Red Wings Wacotas/Weekender Canvas Moc are cool summer boots.
Good video. I'm personally not a fan of the white wedge sole, I prefer traditional alden Indy moc toe type sole.. but maybe if they had a different color(brown or gray)wedge. Would influence my decision
Ha! I was wondering when you were going to review these. I thought they might suit your fancy earlier. I have these boots! In this color too! I tend to wear them often to the office and warehouse. I love them to death. I’ve used them for some light lawn work too, but they’re mostly my warehouse dogs. Great color, extremely comfortable too. I had a slight issue in the toe box on the right foot due to how sleek the toe box was initially, but that’s more due to my own problem I had to take care of. My sizing was also 0.5 down (like all my Thursdays) from my Brannock & sneaker size, which is 11. Spot on. I’m glad you like them too, Nick!
These look great, but there's absolutely no wiggle room in the toe. I had the same problem with the Captains. I returned these and got the Red Wing 875.
Did you break them in? The Captains were uncomfortably snug for me as well, suffocating my toes like crazy. Took about 3-4 weeks to break them in, after blisters and all.
You probably either needed to size up or get an EE width, because my US11D Captains have a lot of toe space and I suffer from pinkie toe pain so am very relieved by it.
Great review! In a lot of ways, i like a modern take on a classic look. But, in this case, I'd have to sway towards the traditional look. These seem a little too sleek. I guess i'll have to save my pennies and get those Redwings i've been eyeing :/
One day ...one day, Nick's gonna come out and finally say"Yeah, im getting paid for all these Thursday recommendations " lol. I own the captain boot in Safari - oiled suede. It's a decent boot. I wouldn't pay over 200.00 for them.I also have these that were given to me as a gift from a friend. They ok. I would say if you can afford the Red Wing mocs which I also have, get them. The Red Wings just seem so much more bullet proof in every aspect. Just my two cents
The leather boot insole literally makes your sock smell like glove leather. That's coming from my wife butt great interior. Also small toe box with out being small magical. And last comfort and the price are great since all my boot's in the past were much more Red wing, chippewas, thorogood. So all around great boot great price and great review.
have you done a review of the "indy boots" that j crew had made a while back? i found a brand new pair at a thrift store. They are good boots so far. i was wondering who makes the boots for j crew or do they make their own shoes?
Really wish they’d make the sole on the black leather version of this boot black as well like the thorogood midnight series. I’d be sold if that was the case
I want to jump into my first pair of good boots and am torn between these Thursday Diplomats and the Iron Ranger or Blacksmith… If I can only choose one, what is the best route to go?
@@Stridewise I meant just good boots in general but yes also Goodyear welted… I ended up ordering a pair of Iron Ranger 1st and a pair of 2nds and somehow won an eBay bid for a pair of unused Red Wing round toe 😳😳😳
Thanks for your review. Best review I found and very helpful on the color as well. I am wondering if you found that your diplomat's loosened up in the top box after some use. I just received my pair and found they were more narrow up front that I anticipated for a boot. The length is fine and I am concerned about going up half size which might be too loose elsewhere. Thanks again for all the right details you covered.
what i like about these boots is that is un gusette bcus as somone with a high step in i can not get my feet into redwings only iron rnagers tho iw sih they were unlined or just canvas lined due to having sweaty feet myself
here in The Netherlands, 200 euros is a bit expensive, however as a Chilean I think is a good price a very good price versus quality but .... How wide are they my husband is H here or G+
Anyone wear these for work? I do construction and wear red wing soft toes right now anyway but they’re contractor shoes not a lot of heel support. I own Thursday captains and like Thursday as a company so I’d like too buy these if they’re worth it. If they can handle day too day shit kickin if I may.
Currently looking for some moc toe boots with steel toes for work... These thursdays and also the redwings classic moc don't come in a safety toe. Best option I can find is thorogood... If anyone has a good recommendation please lmk
In my opinion Moc Toes are not supposed to be sleek and dressy... I like my mocs with heavy socks (mocs and socks) and denim... if I want to dress it up I'll just do a wing tip boot or cap toe boot.
I dont think that comfort is subjective....it's comfortable or it is not. Red wing takes a bit to break in and Thursdays are pretty much start to finish workable. Is it resalable? that is probably the negative.....It will cost you as much as a new pair.
Im glad that more people are getting into boots but i feel like immediate comfort or no break in is a sign the boot will not last as long due to the synthetic foams or thinner leathers. Then again my feet aren’t the same as the next guy so.
How do you clean this type of leather.? Does one condition and wax as usual.? Do these need to be waterproofed? Sorry for all the questions. Noel Thanks
I just got mine. I love them, and would definitely recommend them. I will say though: Please don’t be that guy that tries to wear these with a suit…. Dark jeans or khakis/chinos, and a sport shirt is probably about as far as you should try to dress these up.

Just received these boots. Boots feel and look great. Downside for me is the white soles gets dirty easily.
One of the best moc toe profiles IMHO
Been looking at these for a while. Will pull the trigger sometime, but want to get their sneaker first. Going to be reviewing that anytime soon?
Need these in wide widths!
Russell moccasins. Anything by them. No break in time. You are walking on air. Absolutely the best thing that you can do for your feet and yourself
6 month order time though, it's hard to recommend them to the average dude
How does the durability of the Vibram Christy sole compare to the Red Wing Traction Tred?
have you done a review of the "indy boots" that j crew had made a while back? i found a brand new pair at a thrift store. They are good boots so far. i was wondering who makes the boots for j crew or do they make their own shoes?
i dont know if i should for these or redwings i want a wide toe box dont want my toes squished
Wish the soles were a light brown instead of white
How do they compare against the Captain boots in terms of sizing?
Are they wider in the toe area?
Really wish they’d make the sole on the black leather version of this boot black as well like the thorogood midnight series. I’d be sold if that was the case
Ah I'm sure they will! Or you could spend a bunch of money resoling this haha
I want to jump into my first pair of good boots and am torn between these Thursday Diplomats and the Iron Ranger or Blacksmith… If I can only choose one, what is the best route to go?
Your first pair of Goodyear welted boots? ... Red Wing, just for the full heavyweight experience
@@Stridewise I meant just good boots in general but yes also Goodyear welted… I ended up ordering a pair of Iron Ranger 1st and a pair of 2nds and somehow won an eBay bid for a pair of unused Red Wing round toe 😳😳😳
The redwing 877 has a slimmer toe box imo. Check it out someday.
He has a pair of 877. I can confirm that. Right Nick?
Are these boots Good for a job site? Id be buying them for work 👍🏼
Thanks for your review. Best review I found and very helpful on the color as well. I am wondering if you found that your diplomat's loosened up in the top box after some use. I just received my pair and found they were more narrow up front that I anticipated for a boot. The length is fine and I am concerned about going up half size which might be too loose elsewhere. Thanks again for all the right details you covered.
what is your opinion on the toe box? are they narrow or wide or? I have a wide foot so im worried they maybe a narrow fit.
Beautiful boots, just bought them for bf’s birthday. 😊
I've been waiting for this review for so long I've stopped wearing boots altogether. Still love watching your reviews though!
"Alden begs to differ," said Dr. Jones.
That’s not a true moc toe
@@StolenAlias Moc moc toe.
@@StolenAlias They all look the same to Sacagawea.
Thorogood for work, Redwing & Thursdays for Style.
what i like about these boots is that is un gusette bcus as somone with a high step in i can not get my feet into redwings only iron rnagers tho iw sih they were unlined or just canvas lined due to having sweaty feet myself
My fav youtube channel...
Just got my burnt copper today and they look way darker than yours? Does the color fade after wear?
I just ordered the burnt copper why does it look so much darker on their site? Hmmm
What is the most comfortable boots to wear if you going to be on your feet for 8 to 10 hours.
here in The Netherlands, 200 euros is a bit expensive, however as a Chilean I think is a good price a very good price versus quality but .... How wide are they my husband is H here or G+
You are forgetting the Red Wing Wabasha, Wacouta and most important the alden indy boot (this might be the sleekest moc toe boot)
Have you considered reviewing the Perry Boot by Whites?
Already filmed!
Anyone wear these for work? I do construction and wear red wing soft toes right now anyway but they’re contractor shoes not a lot of heel support. I own Thursday captains and like Thursday as a company so I’d like too buy these if they’re worth it. If they can handle day too day shit kickin if I may.
Good video.. Nice boot but the Redwing classic moc looks better in my opinion
Fantastic review, but how are we ignoring the pistol squat? My guy strong!
hahah thanks!
I dont think that comfort is subjective....it's comfortable or it is not. Red wing takes a bit to break in and Thursdays are pretty much start to finish workable. Is it resalable? that is probably the negative.....It will cost you as much as a new pair.
Compare to Thorogood or Red Wing?
Good review. For $200 and not a lot of break in, sounds like I might need to get a pair.
Im glad that more people are getting into boots but i feel like immediate comfort or no break in is a sign the boot will not last as long due to the synthetic foams or thinner leathers. Then again my feet aren’t the same as the next guy so.
I bought a pair of Captain boots 1/2 size smaller and they were the hardest thing in the world to break in!!!
I like this moc toe, not really that bulky. Nice one here 👏👍
how thin or thicker are these compared to their Captains and Vanguards?
I like Thursday except their heel counter
Do they come in Wide?
How do you clean this type of leather.?
Does one condition and wax as usual.?
Do these need to be waterproofed?
Sorry for all the questions.
Noel
Thanks
I just got mine. I love them, and would definitely recommend them. I will say though: Please don’t be that guy that tries to wear these with a suit…. Dark jeans or khakis/chinos, and a sport shirt is probably about as far as you should try to dress these up.
Weird question I know but.. what brand is that black henley?
Pistol Lake!
@@Stridewise thanks man!!
