Thanks for topic on chest protectors review. Mine just took a sharp stick in the chest; received 10 staples to hold it closed. Will be looking to your recommendations.
I’m glad you touched on play growling. My pup does that when we play tug with her and I was going to ask if that’s normal/ok. She was doing some resource guarding that you guys talked about in another YAWA and she has gotten so much better with that!
In a previous YAWA you mentioned how letting a dog leap into the water was dangerous, is there a way to teach them to not jump in so aggressively if they begin this behavior?
When y’all had Sprig how did y’all increase the distance on his retrieves?Right now I am having trouble with it.I don’t know if it’s confidence or she just doesn’t understand. I’m also fourteen so I’m learning.
First off, that’s awesome! Nice to see young people taking pride in their gun dog training. What I would do is go to your training area, go to as far as you believe she will retrieve from and place your dummy. If she retrieves like she should, move it 5-10 yards beyond the last point. She will probably go to where the last one was, and though it won’t be there, she should still smell that it’s close and if she’s truly a retrieving dog she will sniff it out. Just give her time, don’t follow her and make the retrieval distance shorter, make her bring it ALL the way back to the starting point. I’ve trained 3 dogs and I did this process, slowly working their range out to about 50 yards. That’s more than likely going to be further than any retrieve she makes in the field. The one sign I look for in a good retrieving dog is the desire to RETURN not just retrieve. Most all dogs will retrieve. But will they bring the game back to you and be willing to give it up knowing there is hopefully another coming? Lots of dogs are thrilled to have a bird in their mouth and trot around and flaunt it, but don’t want to give it up. A great gun dog will sprint that bird back to you, drop it in your hand and immediately be on the lookout for the next.
I’m getting a GSP puppy in September and wanted to get your advice on potty training . I am currently working remote so I am able to take the dogs out consistently throughout the day but wondering if I should have a more timely schedule for the new puppy so he adapts quickly when I have to go back to the office? Also, any advice on preparing for that separation. We have two other dogs so I’m hoping that will help with the separation during the day.
May I suggest use a crate for your puppy and ensure that at least every four hours your puppy is allowed to toilet, that means getting up in the night to. The pup in my experience doesn’t want to mess his space but physically can not hold himself. This I would do until the pup is 12+ weeks old
HI, I am currently training my 5.5 month old GSP the place queue. I would prefer him to lay down on his bed, but i noticed all your dogs are standing or sitting. Is this just preference ? or is there another reason behind why your dogs sit/stand?
My 14 week old gsp was really good about letting us know when he needed to go out for the first 2 weeks we had him... but now he has learned that we take him out and he has to stop what hes doing if hes cought peeing in the house. So now he walks and pees at the same time and doesn't even break stride so it's really hard to catch him. How do I break him of this? He leaves 20 foot streams
Mine is 15 weeks and I thought he was mostly house broken.....today he was drinking and popping a squat peeing at the same time. That said, We have to consider their age still. Lol but it is frustrating I agree.

Can y’all show a video with the lion country supply vest and how it should fit.

How cold is too cold for waterfowl hunting for a GSP?

How much exercise is to much for a growing puppy? Thanks for the great content and help!
You need to index your videos. It’d nice if we could separate the wheat from the chaff
Do you kennel train in your house? If so how far away from your bedroom do you put the kennel?
The Pepper comment messed me up. I am currently going through place training with my Llewelliin pup named Pepper! Thought Ethan was calling me out!
Hahaha! Too funny!
Proper whiskey glass........
