I think Charles Gray was the best Blofeld... he is the one BIG redeeming feature in "Diamonds are Forever". I feel a bit sorry for him in this scene. There is a legend that as a very young actor, CG met Aleister Crowley on a train and modelled much of his subsequent act on him.
I didn't know that, but, from what I've read about how people have described Aleister Crowley, I can certainly believe it; that cold, precise, aloofness is certainly something people have said about Crowley...

Funny how Blofeld in the previous movies was a ruthless villian, totally stone cold. In Diamonds Are Forever he's pretty much the comic relief, and an anything but ruthless personality.
I think the air of warmth makes him a better character. The other Blofelds are often very one note; Gray’s portrayal is the only one that has much of a personality.
Hahahahaha, very funny with Blofeld and when the girl falls from the platform and when James told her to jump but she's already jumped, hahahahaha!!!!!
Yes. Bond kills him, finally getting revenge for Tracy. YOLT was the first time the producers basically disregarded the novel's story, which was a necessity after switching the order of the books. It set, imo, a bad precedent.

This movie is my guilty pleasure Bond film, and this is no exception. I don’t know the name of the music used in this scene, but it’s my favourite use of it in the entire series.
I really hate the ending to this film. Blofeld just vanishes without explanation. They don't show him dying, they don't show him getting wounded, they don't show him escaping, he just disappears. Especially annoying as the ending they originally had planned, with the scuba divers demolishing the rig and Bond and Blofeld fighting in a salt mine, sounded pretty epic.
Pleasance was the perfect Blofeld, IMHO. He pretty much got the character from the books down pat: a ruthless, emotionless sociopath. Savalas was OK, but he injected too much smug and smarm. As for Gray, I remember reading a review on Amazon saying that he came off more as a disgruntled waiter than a criminal mastermind. I concur.
Blofeld and Odd Job are my favourite Bond villains. Combine Blofeld's eloquent, snake-like sneering with Odd Job's silent, brutal menace, and you'd have a great bad guy. He could be called Oddfeld, or something. I'm sure there's better names, but that's all I can think of.
He isn't seen again for 10 years so you could assume that. However, it transpires he is in a wheelchair in FYEO so you can assume he survived the destruction of the oild rig with serious injuries and decided to lay low for several years and then go after Bond when he least expected it. I believe his remains were found when a power station chimney was demolished.
The ruthless way in which Bond kills Stromberg would have been a perfect end for Blofeld, too, given how he murdered Bond's wife. Much more suitable than the god-awful (but completely intentional) demise he's given in the beginning of 'For Your Eyes Only' :L

There was not nearly as much slapstick in DAF as opposed to the Moore films though, it's minimal at most.
