    The greatest Bond movie, the greatest Bond villain, the greatest Bond henchman, the greatest Bond score, the greatest Bond song, the greatest Bond woman with the greatest female name, and of course, the greatest Bond actor (none of the others don't even come close) of all time!

    I came down that road on an old 1960 Triumph T110 chopper in 1978 my front brake cable snapped, my rear brake faded. I shut down the idle on the carb and coasted all the way down . Cornering was still hairy. What a fabulous road.

      @Klemheist Actually when I checked, it was NOT due to "climate change" at all. Rather it was due to a new tunnel built in 2000. Hardly anyone takes the switchbacks road anymore. The hotel simply no longer had guests enough to stay open. Sad that, really.

    • @THE-HammerMan
      @THE-HammerMan 2 роки тому +1

      @Klemheist Yes, I agree.
      Ahhh..., to win the lotto (or just have the spare $) to buy & restore that wonderfully historic hotel would be nice. Maybe acquire as many Bond artifacts as possible and have a wee Bond museum too! Turn 1/4 of the rooms into a small batch custom brewery as well. I could see living there, no problem. Offer the best at cut rates with no worries as to how much profit was necessary, just to be friendly. Dreams are made of this, eh?

    just noticed a continuity/costume glitch that I've never noticed before, having watched this movie like 20 times!! Bond is wearing a light brown wool jacket with the white cuffs of his shirt showing quite distinctly, as he waves the Mustang to pass him ,on the close up of his left arm and hand reaching for the control console to engage the wheel spikes he is wearing the black shirt that he also has when he engages the ejector seat in later scenes. So I guess the film editor simply used a brief close up insert from the later chase scene and ejector seat scene when Bond has changed clothes to black shirt and trousers.

    Tilly's mustang has to be one of the first ever. The first model year of the Mustang was 1964 1/2, so early 1964. Goldfinger was released in late 1964. This scene had to have been filmed in late spring or early summer, soon after that car left the assembly line. And flown to Europe.

      When JB movies took on the public by storm, Ford Motor Company (FoMoCo) took any offers they had for what was called "Product Placement". The popularity of the first two JB movies convinced the Ford marketing department that despite the damage to the Mustang, it would be a good marketing deal to offer the car to EON Productions. The rest is history!
      Incidentally, Ford "gave" two Mustangs for the movie "Bullit" which was to display the first and most realistic car chase in the Hollywood history (to that date). Ciao, L (former FoMoCo engineer).

      @@stephendavidbailey2743 Hi Sean, that is because the 1964 Mustang was a "1965 release". Understand that a car line is put in production at least, and at the very least 6 to 9 months before "official release" and before Title registration. That is true for all American cars of that era. The 1964 1/2 Mustang was a "mid-year" innovation - that is why the confusion is... Ciao, L (FoMoCo engineer... retired).

    • @lancelot1953
      @lancelot1953 4 роки тому +1

      @Mark Richards Hi Mark, agreed - back then, we (the big three and sometimes later AMC), we would send to our competitor (GM or Chrysler, in our case for example) a model of the "new car" we were about to release (usually 3 to 6 months before), this was done "under the table". Before we released the Mustang, we send to each model (prototypes of the 1965 without the bells and whistle) and they did the same... the ideas was to maintain a "status quo" in the production (at least on the outside). GM did not believe that our Mustang would work (they reminded us about the Edsel) and they saw their Corvair as their "young car". Of course, by the time each company would receive their competitor's offering - we were two years ahead since that was the design/finishing/tooling time. On top of that, there was a lot of spying taking place but the executives of these companies were so "top heavy" that the new information from a competitor would take to long to reach the decision makers.
      As soon as the production line got in gear for a generation (2-years for small cars, 3~4 years for larger one), we would start working the next generation (2~4 years in advance depending on the size/complexity/cost of the model) while another department was "fixing the glitches" in the cars in production. All the tooling, sheet metal, part molds had to be designed, build, tested. Then the assembly books had to be produced and the workers trained for the most efficient operation. We also had a several subcontractors that would take care of "specialty cars", ultra-high performance engines (427, 429 Boss, etc...). At Ford, our transition time where the production would be switched was between May and August - during that time, a buyer could get either year and many "hybrids" were made i.e. running out of parts from the previous year would force us to add/delete and/or mix parts from different year during that time.
      I hope you see Ford vs. Ferrari Movie - it is very similar to what I experienced during my internship at Ford. Those were the days! Ciao, Happy New Year, L

    • @lancelot1953
      @lancelot1953 4 роки тому +2

      @Mark Richards Hi Mark - the Camaro/Firebird story is a nice one: Our Mustang was a sell-out, we had to open/retool another factory just to keep with the demand (which we did not at the time). IIRC, by 1965 year-end GM had lost ~10% in sales to Ford, Chrysler was worse. GM had to do something but the company was so large, that nothing could be done "quickly". The Camaro (code-name "Panther Project") kind of got designed by a group of dynamic engineers/stylists/experts that worked in a separate section of the company - of course, they had our Mustang prototype as a go-by and I think they used some Chevelle parts (especially interior) to expedite the production, the race was on! They released the car (the first few "samples") by late 1966 (the 1967 Model year) which was a record in the industry (like WW II days again). You have to understand that we (especially the engineers, designers, etc...) likely knew one another or had connections in other companies (many of us had gone through the same colleges) and many of us were seeing ourselves creating designs for Formula one, LeMans, ... We talked - stole ideas from one another, well... kind of! We all wanted to work on "secret company projects", but that was not as glamorous as it looked - Detroit was an engineer's dream come true back then - plus all the suppliers and "special ops" subcontractors around (Kar-Kraft, OJ Smith engineering, Bud Moore, Holman-Moody, ...), funding money was plenty and ideas were... well... "crazy" - it was exciting but it was not going to last and the bureaucracy was absolutely "horrible" (as you saw in the movie). GM had learned from our mistakes (our Achille's Heel in the Mustang was the front end (the spring towers out of sheet metal, reinforced were flexing/bending in), and we had a small engine compartment (based on the Falcon's dimensions). GM put a "half sub-frame" on their front end and allowed for large block usage. Our second generation Mustang had to answer that (1967~1968) and was a completely new redesign of the 1st generation - with the big block provision - plus now the race was on... the Trans-Am series had started (1966, I believe) and Camaros were gaining ground on us especially with their Z-28's which caused us to go back to the drawing board again with the Boss projects (1969~1970) ... Peace be with you, Ciao, L

    I sometimes wonder, if engineers get inspired by watching a scene featuring a gadget in a movie and get inspired to make it happen. This is a perfect example with the tracking device. I remember when I was a very young boy watching the old TV series Star Trek. Captain Kirk goes through his ship and the doors open automatically, and my Mother says “ this is so silly like that can ever happen.

      @@matsflodin4943 Hi Mats, this Mustang was supplied by Ford Motor Company for "product placement" as were most of the cars used in the early JB movies. Ford used mostly what what would the public (viewer) would see/recognize on the movie screen - so the high performance "K" code engine with a 4-speed trannie cars (especially for movie stars) were out of the question. This car is a first generation 1965 (or 1964 1/2 for purist) car with the likely 260 or 289 engine. This car was to be "scrapped" so, "fancy options" were not included. Hi Isaac... Sean Connery did make the James Bond character. When he quit EON Productions, the James Bond movies change to become more of a "funny" if not "ridiculous" franchise with stupid jokes and unrealistic props. I lived that era and I was very disappointed that the JB franchise became more of a "kiddy show" for the millennial generation than a realistic masterpiece like it was conceived in the beginning (1962).
