“I don’t know who designed the house, but it wasn’t someone who has ever lived in a house!” 😂😂😂 made me lol. We moved into our house 7 years ago and we were only going to be here 2 years so we never bought anything. We’re in the same boat!
I feel the same way about the lights above our stairs. 12' ceilings over a spiral stair with no landing to put a ladder on. Between my fear of heights and needing a 20' ladder to change the bulbs, we have to hire someone to change them.
My bedroom is 8 ft wide and 12 ft long... hello... how does that make a bedroom work. The hanging ceiling lights are along the long wall spaced for the bed to go there with outlets on each side of the bed. We literally walk sideways to get past the bed. It's insane. So when she said whoever built the house never lived in a house... I felt her pain.
For our ‘headboard’ I got a ‘wall tapestry’ on Amazon for about $10 and used liquid starch to adhere it to the wall. I love it! (Huge statement, Cheap and removable)
Ah, one of the great things about being single ... Once I was done with higher learning, I moved to a one-bedroom apartment in the Reno area. There was baseboard heating, so I could heat the bedroom separately without spilling heat out into the more open kitchen / dining room / living room area. I had a full size mattress, but no bed furniture. So depending on the weather and my mood, sometimes I'd put the mattress in the bedroom and sleep there, and sometimes I'd put the mattress in the living room and sleep there. For a few weeks starting around the end of May, especially, it was nice to sleep in the living room with the sliding glass door open, because the locust tree was in heavy bloom and its sweet-scented cascades of barely pink blossoms hung over my balcony. And if I really needed extra floor space for something, I could just fold up my bedding and stand the mattress up in the walk-in closet for a while! Now I have a house, still live by myself, and I sleep in the living room all the time. One bedroom is an office, one is a project room quickly convertible to a guest bedroom, and the third is a walk-in closet. I'm not sure if I can live this way because nobody comes to visit me, or if nobody comes to visit me because I live this way!
I used to LOVE decorating rooms, holidays etc... the more I declutter my STUFF, the less I want on my walls. The dusting of the things, rearranging the things, storage of whatever... I'm finally getting over it all and at 50 ish ( still wishing 40 ish) I wish I could go back and tell my younger self "you do NOT need this or that." I would have saved Soooo much money. 🤦♀️ But, it's never too late to change your preferences or make changes in priorities.
My husband and I have a very small “master” bedroom as well. We wanted a king bed, since both of us are not small people. We ended up having to put the bed in front of a window, and there’s only about 2 feet of space on either side. We found some small bedside tables that have built-in USB ports on them, which are really nice! We have no room for a dresser, though. My clothes are actually all in the guest bedroom closet across the hall, which has some drawers in it, so it works for me. We are slowly redecorating the rest of the house as well. He has lived there for 15 years, and not much has been re done since he bought it, lol. I feel you on the not liking to spend money on decorating, though! We are both frugal to a point on things like that. Thanks for making these videos and showing us a glimpse of your life!
I had the same issue...I bought an adjustable base also...I hung a beautiful mirror on the wall........There are slot of DIY'ers on UA-cam...You can do decor on a frugal budget
You need lamps, you'll love them. Try shopping for them at Goodwill or Restore. A little paint will make them match or contrast in your room. Now your bedroom is more adult cozy. I like.
It looks great! We don’t have a huge master br either. We refinished an antique door and mounted it to our wall instead of our bed frame so it only takes up 3 inches.
I got rid of my headboard 25 years ago and I don't miss it at all! One may use pillows to colour it up. What about a fan on the ceiling. That I have had for 25 years and it's the best. There are beautiful fans/lights out there - go for it. Having the floor fan out of your room will give you more room.
We bought a mattress (too long ago) that is part latex, memory foam and springs. The pillows are amazing. They are latex. A tip I learned to put the pillow case on: Turn the case inside out. Put your hands inside to the corners like you will make yourself into a pillow-person. Then grab the end of the pillow and flip the case onto the pillow by putting your elbows out, forcing the case to flop right side, about half way up the pillow. No aggressive shaking (like we do with cheaper pillows).
To finish it up I would put lamps on the night stands and two long panels paintings in place of the headboard. Otherwise looks very nice, spacious and I love the colors!
Love the new look. I am a plant person so my walls are minimal so that I do not clash with the surfaces and look cluttered. But when I want a pop of colour I put on a cheaper duvet cover in a bright fabric., and a pillow cover. After a while, I like to go back to my classic until that I want to change things urge comes on.and back to the bright
@@victoriacragwoodsfarm806 I almost died yesterday we went and bought a portable AC yesterday since my husband sleeps durning the day he couldn’t fall asleep
We have so much in common... The plastic bedside tables (ours are dressers!), no headboard, and blank walls. We have a pretty cloth wall hanging over our bed. It's a picture of a beach. I was going to attach a picture of it for you, but I don't see how to here. Great video!!
Hey Christine! The room looks great, you guys did a really nice job! I just loved this video with the two of you together. I had a thought about your bathroom door, maybe you could replace it with a pocket door, it would take up no space in your bathroom or bedroom and it would make the wall look a little more seamless there. Take care guys and I look forward to your next video.
I loved your comment about the ceiling fans. I live in central OK without central heat and air, and have ceiling fans in literally every room except the 5x8' bathroom and in the hallway. I even have one in the kitchen and in the dining room. 3 bedroom home with a total of 6 ceiling fans! On constantly so I only have one small window ac unit in the master bedroom, the rest of the house doesnt get above 82°. Saves me lots of money on electricity and still way cooler than outside! Much love from Oklahoma!
@@dianasimplifies growing up mom wouldn't turn on the ac until we got done with summer camp. I've found that if I keep the bedroom around 74ish to sleep in the rest is fine for the rest of the day. And the window ac takes out a lot of humidity to keep the arthritis tolerable. If the brain starts to complain about the 80° house, I go outside and putter a bit on outside chores... makes coming back inside so much of a treat 😆 and I did have the house refrigerated last year because of an ancient collie that passed over the Rainbow Bridge last fall. The difference in electric bills also helps with the warmth ☺ I do miss the pupper tho!! Much love from Oklahoma!
I LOVE the bedroom refresh. It looks so much bigger and brighter 😊 Put a photo between the windows and it will solve the "blank space" of the headboard. Also I must say I love your relationship! I can tell you and Dave are best friends and absolutely love and adore eachother! Cheers to a lifetime of love, joy and laughter ❤
I don't know if I am too late, but try hanging the mirror that you don't like by your front door above the bed. Mirrors add such a sense of space and you already have it so it's free.
My mother, god rest her soul, was a legit hoarder. I’m not joking when I say almost every square inch of wall space of my childhood home was covered in something. It was impossible to keep it all clean and dusted. I promised my husband that I would never keep a cluttered house. Don’t sweat having little to no wall decor. It just saves you so much time and effort from dusting.
I can totally relate! My stepdad is a hoarder. No poop, pee, dead animals or anything, just stuff, stuff and more stuff! Over the years my mom has gotten roped in to hoarding. When they pass I am going to have a huge mess on my hands! Neither myself nor my husband are hoarders. I refuse to be that way.
you can attach a custom narrow headboard to the wall, may 1 or 2 inches thick, fit it right between the window trim, so it's not attached to the bed but gives visual of head board
You will love the adjustable frame! We have had it for about 2 years and it is wonderful. I sleep on my back and it is great for watching TV or reading. We have a small bedroom too. I keep trying to convince my husband to get rid of the headboard and FOOTBOARD! So far no luck. Yes - a ceiling fan with a bright light is a must (Arizona here). Looks great Christine!
Less is more. Really. We just chucked a whole lot of stuff into a dumpster and took many trips to goodwill this month. When you buy something ask yourself where it will go. Why buy more surfaces to put stuff? The walls are a great place to put decor. It’s just so easy to acquire stuff. Especially when it’s gifted.
We have a split King adjustable bed and we love it! We call the split "the neutral zone". Lol. I like to sleep with my head slightly elevated and husband likes his feet up. We built our own headboard that attaches to the wall with a french cleat. It cost less than $100.
We have a similar bed. My husband made a headboard that attaches to the wall. It looks finished to me and it is custom fit to our windows and bed space.
Hi... I have the same kind of bed and I have the hardest time finding sheets. In addition, the bottom sheet is constantly popping off. May I ask, where are you getting your sheets?
@@joielynette I bought one set of split king sheets at Bed Bath and beyond. They are "My Pillow" brand. I also just bought 2 twin xl fitted sheets and 1 king flat sheet and made my own set. It's about the same cost either way. As for the sheets popping off, I use sheet straps that I bought from Amazon. They work great. Hope this helps.
I kinda want to cry at how handy your husband is. It's a chore just to get mine to take the trash out much less any home improvement projects. I'm swinging between jealous/happy of/for you. You're both blessed to have each other.
Very nice. Really like the grown up nightstands. Please get a head board or art. The walls need something to warm the room up and make it look homey. 😊
Sister make a 1X4 headboard, you could even use plywood or cabinet grade plywood between the 1X4’s. Finish it by painting it or by staining it. All you would need to do next is transfer the hardware from the old headboard or install all new hardware, it’s up to you.
We have almost the same bed frame, but we did get the two mattresses. I actually don't mind the split: makes it easier to cuddle without your arm falling asleep! And well done on the bedroom: from real estate photography days, design wise, having the end of the bed visible from the door is the way to go
Next step curtains! You can do it Christine! Dress those windows! My daughter just bought new curtains for our living room from Walmart and they are so beautiful! Stay safe! xxoo
My hubby and I have the split king of "the old people" bed. We love it. Really cool part has been that I had to have foot surgery and wasn't going to be able to go upstairs for a couple of months. We brought my half of the bed downstairs to the main floor family room. Zero G does a GREAT JOB of keeping the swelling down on the foot!! CONGRATULATIONS to YOU & DAVE on your bedroom changeroo!!
We bought a bed in a box from Walmart 2 and a half years ago and we love it. It’s held up well and we are plus size people. Best part. Was just shy if $300 for a king size bed
We bought an adjustable king size bed 4 years ago. After month, we changed to a split king (2twins) because we needed different things from the adjustable stand point. Yes the "gap" is not my favorite, but the bed is the best money I have spent EVER! Sleep so much better!
Add a nice dresser without a mirror under TV. Try yard sales, resale stores, habitat stores. Can sand down and retain or paint , add new handles. Very frugal.
We love our split King. My husband has restless leg. I get the best sleep now that I don't feel every little move he makes. Best Christmas gift we ever bought for ourselves. Your bedroom looks nice and airy.
It took me close to 17 yrs before I had a headboard & I still do not have a regular nightstand...instead I have a Rice Chest from Korea! It works fine! Brava~for stretching out your imagination & seeing it through! I have seen some gorgeous houses, don't get me wrong with everything in them blinging...I just thought that having kids & dogs & making awesome foods take a priority right now! Its all a seasonal thing. I love watching....I am a nodder & I quip at your channel all the time! Keep up the great work! :) Happy Monday!
Love the transformation! I use plants and photos of families as decor. That way its not ‘trendy’ trinkets that become expensive landfill but helps my house look cosy and homely.
Get a less expensive mattress, and buy a mattress topper. The topper is a lot cheaper to replace, when the time comes. It's easier to clean. And can be taken outside for a good airing, when the weather is wonderful.
We have the same bedroom size and layout (even down to the old ppl bed...which is freaking awesome btw!!!!) We put a 3/4 height white beadboard accent wall behind the bed with a beachy landscape canvas above it. Don't even miss the headboard! Enjoy your new setup!
I don't know a whole lot about home décor myself. But I just find something I like and I put it where I think it looks good. It is all about what you like. I have found stuff at resale shops and garage sales (I'm frugal too ) . The room looks so good. Love the night stands.
Paint a board and hang it on the wall behind the bed. Less than 1” thick. You could even get the paint store to match the paint on your nightstand if you like that look - just take a drawer to the store.
I have a cheap adjustable frame that is almost 10 years old and it still works with no issues. I LOVE my adjustable and will never go back to a regular flat bed.
We recently got the same base for our bed, but we opted for a split king. Best. Decision. Ever. Hubby is a back sleeper, and I am a restless side sleeper. Every time I would change position, I would wake the hubby up in our old bed. We love it and both sleep so much better! The only down side is that it’s a pain to put the fitted sheets on what is essentially two XL twin mattresses. It’s worth it for the better sleep and the ability to adjust both side individually. Bonus - we gutted out our old king bed frame and the new adjustable bases fit inside our own frame. Haven’t used the zero gravity yet, other than playing with it like you guys did. Also, our bed guy said don’t worry about the warrantee on the adjustable bed. You can buy a new motor for it really cheap and you can switch it out easily. They don’t like to tell you that because they hope you will spring for a new base. Frugal for the win! Love your new bedroom! Great job!
Get a Tempurpedic. I have had mine for 20 years and it's still exactly like when I bought it - no indents, no sagging, no valley when two people are on it. And it's like a pain eraser. It's expensive, but sooooo worth it.
You could use a tapestry, etc or something interesting. We didn't have one either for years. You will see your wall getting dirty from body oils, etc if not . Also, you might try the ac vent diverters that push the air out rather than up into furniture so it circulates better.
Great choice! Just an idea you could always install a farm door in your bathroom too!! That would complete the room. I like the minimalism in your room too.
My husband made me a wooden headboard with bookshelf and we bought mattress on sale. Home decor very cheap at resale shops. Can find some great treasures like Amish handmade basket for 3.00, worth 500.00. Looks great on my shelf.
My husband and I have the same frame. We got it because I have lupus and I’m always in pain and we love our bed frame! It was the best money I have ever spent lol we have had it for 10 years and haven’t ever had any problems with it!
You can buy a piece of nice Mdf with trim molding, stain to match the tables and hang behind the bed. Or large decorative metal or wood panels and hang. That was what we did
This is a awesome transformation and much better than the old set up. Ceiling fan a must and the outlet behind the tv absolutely fantastic. Love your new arrangement. Thanks for another great video ❣️
Add some inexpensive Euro pillows (ikea has the best price) so you can still lean up against the wall to read etc ☺️ and it looks more finished. Love the makeover!!
They make vent deflectors that will extend the air out and direct in out from under the bed. I know this because we have floor vents and a master bedroom with all your same problems. Mine exist because our house is 100 years old. It is possible to put your bed on my the window side. :)
I have a tiny master also- only a queen barely fits. I use two king pillows as my 'head board' (they are a darker color than the wall) and a large monogram art higher on the wall to make it look more interesting.
I’ve been in my house for 11 years. 😀 I buy stuff I really like and that is traditional, I don’t like shopping. The night stands might have been a spurge, but look at it like you will have them for awhile. They are real wood not pressed wood.
I’m with you. I don’t decorate with stuff just to look like Pinterest. We have hand me down furniture and our walls are decorated with family pictures mostly. I don’t care to “decorate”. It’s just more stuff to clean and move..
Mattress shopping is so stressful! I recently bought one for my son and between budgeting for what you can afford to having one that really gives a good night's rest...all I can say is shop hard, read reviews, talk to family and friends.
You are not alone on "not knowing what you are doing"! I have only had one headboard in my 29 years of marriage and that was not until almost year 20? We had just that metal frame that is supposed to attach to a headboard! The other odd thing is that I have only purchased ONE couch. My mother in law gave me a couch for a wedding present (still own and use in the basement). We purchased another in 2004/5 ish time frame and ust that one to this day. The struggle is real on home decorating.
We found some adjustable bed frames preowned. We have the deadly crack in the middle haha but I am not a fan of how my husband adjusts his side so its for the best that we have separate beds. I never thought I would have a bed like this but we are enjoying it.
The room looks way bigger. I'm the opposite. I just bought a bed as well. I have a headboard for the first time since I was a kid. 😂 I think they are pretty useless but I do feel a tad fancy now. 😂
Put a nice picture frame above your bed like a flowered picture frame or extra. And add some type of decoration on your night stands or even nightstand lamps. What do u think???
My 6yo daughter and I are in a fixer-upper. She has a daybed that was my baby sister's when she was a teenager - 30 years ago! lol I've been looking at different mattress reviews to see what I need to save to get her a new mattress, especially since we all know that sometimes Mom falls asleep while tucking in Munchkin. And then up pops your video. Thank you! And since I'm also working to teach my daughter about frugality, I've subbed to your channel. :-) Now back at my weekend chores. Have a blessed day.
We bought an adjustable bed a few months back. We got one that each side moves separately so hubby can sleep flat but I sleep in zero g. Before we got it I could barely walk due to chronic back and hip pain. Seriously this bed changed my life. And. The icing on the cake is we got a great deal, bed, mattresses pillows sheets mattress protectors. $14000 value and we got it all for $5000.
I adore your family. I'm very frugal, love coupons and clearance. I love to decorate. I'm a sucker for thirty decorates, but then for things like lamps I need high quality and refuse to pay a lot. It's so freaking hard. I love green plants with lots of leaves, but I'm so picky. Watching all your videos we have so much in common. I enjoy your videos so much.

Curtain rod and drapes behind the bed looks great and is inexpensive.
$200 is a great price for solid wood end tables.
Vlmellody51 $200 each. Not too bad , if their kids don't tear them up.
I like.
The earliest I've ever seen your video. I feel special!
Same! 😀
It looks great! We don’t have a huge master br either. We refinished an antique door and mounted it to our wall instead of our bed frame so it only takes up 3 inches.
You could have done a Queen bed and saved alot more room.
Yes my #1 need in a bedroom is a ceiling fan! Bedrooms always seem to get so stuffy even when the door is open.
Love how you and your hubby work together in getting your bedroom set up! ❤️
Ok, I am convinced... I just bought the adjustable bed frame!! Thanks for your wonderful, personal review...
It was so refreshing to hear that a fellow mom/wife is frugal with eating out and home decor 😅
Yeah girl to ceiling fans in the bedrooms! I'm from Michigan, but spent many years without AC.
It's currently hot in England and we don't know what to do with ourselves because this never happens here! x
Doesn’t get above 82? Wow I would die in there. Lol. We have window units. Have a huge on in our bedroom bc we like it freezing in there haha 😂
Love seeing supervisor Speedy making sure everything is done right! My cat Renner is our supervisor. What would we do without our pets?
Looks so much better! And yes, it was even hard for me to pay $80 at Costco to buy new sheets. 🤦🏼♀️
What a great video! I loved seeing and hearing both of you. Congratulations on your redecorated bedroom.
My mom was a hoarder too. She passed away December of 2019 and I’m still trying to get her house sorted out
My mom hoarded. That's why I am a minimalist. Tina
My mom and dad are hoarders too. I cannot live in an unorganized, cluttered, or somewhat messy home. I have so much anxiety about it
you can attach a custom narrow headboard to the wall, may 1 or 2 inches thick, fit it right between the window trim, so it's not attached to the bed but gives visual of head board
🙌🙌🙌
I even got rid of a bunch of my wall decor. If I don’t love it, it’s not staying either.
We have had our adjustable bed frame for 5 yrs and it is still going just as strong as day one! We love it too and play with it often!
Good to know!
Add a nice dresser without a mirror under TV. Try yard sales, resale stores, habitat stores. Can sand down and retain or paint , add new handles. Very frugal.
My mom has an adjustable bed for about 6 years now and the motor is still going strong.
We love our split King. My husband has restless leg. I get the best sleep now that I don't feel every little move he makes. Best Christmas gift we ever bought for ourselves. Your bedroom looks nice and airy.
“(I don’t understand it, but) I trust you.” 😍 GOALS!
:) Happy Monday!
you could always paint a "headboard" on the wall.
Christine's hair/makeup/tan are on point today! Gorg!
Love the transformation! I use plants and photos of families as decor. That way its not ‘trendy’ trinkets that become expensive landfill but helps my house look cosy and homely.
You should do some blown-up pictures from your family bike trips as art! An awesome picture of Moab would look great over the bed :)
Great idea!!
Get a less expensive mattress, and buy a mattress topper. The topper is a lot cheaper to replace, when the time comes. It's easier to clean. And can be taken outside for a good airing, when the weather is wonderful.
Good job, guys! It's truly heartening to see two people who are of the same mind working together.
We have the same bedroom size and layout (even down to the old ppl bed...which is freaking awesome btw!!!!)
We put a 3/4 height white beadboard accent wall behind the bed with a beachy landscape canvas above it.
I loved seeing a normal, minimal bedroom redo. You always see some crazy over the top stuff the average person cant do lol.
Great choice! Just an idea you could always install a farm door in your bathroom too!! That would complete the room. I like the minimalism in your room too.
Yes! That would solve her “swing” problem of having to clear the bath mats.
Your shirt! I love it so much! I hear that song on the radio almost every day (my car radio is perpetually on the 80s channel 😁)
I love having a ceiling fan in every bedroom plus the Living & family room since I am in Calif.
I need to borrow Dave if I mark up a wall I just hang a mirror or a piece of art 😆🤷🏼♂️
