Never sold a book, I have traded for books I wanted. Dollar bins for me are fun, its like a diamond in the rough find. I do laugh watching some flippers on WhatNot, when the light goes out of their eyes when they figure out they are most likely losing money.
The $5 flippers will eventually realize the waste of time it really is. Getting rid of 20 long boxes? It's a lot of work. If you're gonna flip, flip big. Get into the original art. Think big. Buy big, sell big.
What a hilarious take. Genius use of self deprecation...most flippers look like this...had me rollin', rockin' with WV too and that "chain" looks like he didn't have one, so he asked his wife to borrow one of her necklaces.
I am definently the guy who has 1.00 comics for sale on eBay. I got a collection very cheap so it’s easy to make a little money on every sale. I find it a lot of fun and I think it’s cool to get comics into collectors hands for the appropriate price on eBay. Just my position. Thanks for your videos.
One of favorite eBay sellers has one dollar starting bids on all of her comics. Mostly it's a steady stream of mid to high grade 80's - 90's Marvel box filler that's good for filling holes in your collection cheap. Since most of the stuff isn't keys, it's pretty common for the majority of her inventory to sell for the opening $1 bid, but what she does to compensate is an extra 50 cents per book fee if you're doing combined shipping. I don't mind, cuz I'm still getting a deal since it'd cost $5 to buy the same book from an LCS, and she's getting 50 % extra that eBay doesn't take a cut of since it's counted as shipping rather than the purchase price. If she's buying at a bulk rate of 15-20 cents a book, that's still a profitable side hustle.
I think there is a distinction that needs to be made. Flipper = Brings value to the market by offering an item (comic) to a larger audience than than the original sales point, while also maintaining a profit. Can also be used to "fund the hobby", like so many of us do. Scalper = Buys all available stock (typically locally, see your NES example), and sells for an inflated price due to artificial scarcity created by their greed.
There are so many opportunitistic type flippers that came in during 2019 to 2021 or so and have left this hobby completely fractured. I’ve seen many highs and lows in comics in my time but this was a unique beast
Any hobby that requires buying something will always have flippers or resellers. I do think comics are less susceptible to it than other hobbies that revolve around buying. Most comics are worth less than the price on the book. The Hot Wheels collecting hobby is a lot more susceptible to it. Mattel releases special edition Super Treasure Hunt (STH) cars that are released in regular retail cases of 72 cars. They all go for $1.18 each on the pegs, but the STH cars can go for over $100 on eBay. This attracts people who only want STH cars and if they cannot find them, the whine constantly about it. They even contact Walmart corporate and report that store employees "must be" scalping them because they can never find any. These people amuse me. I'm a member of a few Hot Wheels collecting groups on Facebook in a large part to read their constant lamentations. I sometimes encourage them to report it not just to Walmart, but to the police. 😆
I’ve always tried to make the hobby pay for itself. I’ve been guilty of just about all the shady behavior in the past but now I just preorder stuff to spec on. Aren’t we all just trying to distract ourselves from this miserable world? 😂
Personally, I'm a new comic book day flipper. If I can sell a modern book for above $20+ above retail I'll do it lol. Modern books are just for reading to me. I flip them to afford my Golden, silver, and modern books. I'm more irritated with people who get Golden-Bronze age books for the low and flip them, but I guess that's the pot calling the kettle black. Those books are collection books to me.
@@richardolney1822 You think I'm keeping those modern books longer than a few weeks? I'm just trying to get the money and keep it moving. I don't see buying a stack of books and selling the part you don't want or need as "flipping"....it's simply getting the books you need or want in one of several ways and getting some of your funds back as you're KEEPING a certain book/books,which is why you bought the lot. The ones that are simply in it to make 5-10 bucks a shot are literally only stepping in the way of actual collectors that have put in years and hundreds or thousands of dollars to amass a PC that was a goal for a very long time. If I spend a bunch of cash buying up ALL the new Jordans in my area day 1 or ahead of said day, only knowing the monetary value...does that make me a "sneaker head"? I think not. And I'd be chastised beyond belief. It's ridiculous to bump a segment of the population from being able to obtain what it is they work towards simply to turn a tiny profit.
Most people flipping collectables have no understanding of what their time is worth. I use Ebay to prune my collection from time to time. These guys are lucky to be making $15 an hour. You are better getting a real job or get a skill where you can make $30 to $40. I own a business not in collectables where I make way more than $15 an hour :)
If they have an excess of time, it might be worth it to them. The $15 an hour job comes with its own limitations. You have to follow a set schedule, etc.
Flippers have been around since the early 90s. It started with the Comic Book Trading cards, moved directly into comics, when comics weren't hot anymore they moved onto toys, the TCG Industry, beanie babies, Star Wars figures, Hot Wheels, particular video games etc. Eventually they moved back into comics regardless of whether it's floppies, graded books or even omnis. Todays world is NOT about collecting & reading but speculate before book hits shelves. Buy lcs stock & send to slab . One hopes book picks up "steam" long enough to sell through & rake in $$$. My $.02 from where I stand...
I tend to flip books but not on that level. I'll buy an extra copy to eventually make a few extra bucks or to trade. If I find a key/minor key at a good price, even though I have a copy, I might buy it to either upgrade the one I have or just to resell/trade. However, I will never buy anything that I am not willing to hold on to or that I will regret buying just so I can flip it. So, to some extend, I do understand it. What I don't understand are the ones who will rob an LCS of all their copies or even preorder 50+ of the same book so they can retire early. People who do that almost always get burned. I've seen this happen so many times where they end up liquidating for half the price they paid.
I am a collector, but I do also sell from time to time because I don't have a huge house, warehouse, or other means as to store much more than I have. I do try to find books that I think others will like and I do want to be compensated a little bit for my efforts, so if I buy a little low and sell for a little bit of profit, I'm not going to feel guilty about it. There is also the cost of setting up at a show and nobody wants to set up and be in the negative after a show is finished; we want to walk out with a good bit of extra cash in our pockets. :) I don't generally try to flip a book for a great deal of profit, though, because I want to 1) give someone a good deal and 2) enjoy getting books to people who really want them. Great video though!
I have been collecting many items for many years. I have never sold one item. I don't understand flippers. I guess they're bored and have time to drive around endlessly. I'm not sure how people have time for that.
Flipping is in every hobby. To each his own. If I get a price I want to sell a book I could care less what someone else does. If you can snowball your flipping at a 20%-50% margin per transaction, you can build a big pile of cash down the line.
I’ve only ever sold books of mine to eventually buy that same book but in a better grade, I’ve bought and sold 3 FF#49’s in order to now have a 6.0 FF#49 😂
lol yea, cringe as hell term. I want a lil angel on my shoulder to travel around with me and slap me silly if it ever hears me use terms like that, because as much as we resist it, sometimes those lil things infiltrate our brain subconsciously and blurt out unintentionally. Another thing that ppl say in comics that i feel really got started on youtube, and if i ever say this, revoke my comic rights, is any kind of comic book "goodness". "this has that shiney cover goodness"...."silver age goodness"..."black suit spidey goodness"...slap me mf silly, im about to throw up just typing the term, aaack🤢🤮
Most common flip, buy for $5 and flip for $20-25. In addition, these book will likely get marked up by the store within 5 days. In addition, it doesn’t help with publisher increasing price more often than ever. So as an average Joe. What should you do? It’s really sad… more shops are closing because simply they don’t sell enough books and all the hot books get scalped. It’s a lose lose proposition for everyone.
I've sold a lot of books over the years and whatever a person does with a book i sell them is their business. So, what is the difference between a flipper and an investor?
00:00:05 Never knew Rick Grimes was a flipper! I remember Jake Paul purchased a $5 million Pokemon card during the pandemic which was all over the news.
I don't know about this one. People have been flipping comic books and everything else since forever and it's not going to go away. I don't personally have a problem with it as I always expect that anything that is in high demand will have individuals that are going to be moving quickly stockpile and then flip. But again this is only done when there is a high demand for a given book. The best way to defeat it is either get a pull list at your LCS, order copies ahead of time from the LCS or a distributor, or just wait until the hype dies down and then buy the book on the cheap. This is a non issue for me.
Fund the hobby! Flipped some books here and there. Then reinvested it, the cycle, bro. But I ain't wasting my time with making $5 or $20!! More like over a $100 and up, lol
I'm saying this in fun: Kind of hard to not say "Pot calling kettle..." when I'm looking at a wall of comic slabs in the back ground. That being said, flipping has always been around for everything. Back when I started in the 1990s, it was action figures, comics and cards. We called them scalpers because the big players would often have insiders they would pay to hold back the gold that they would then turn around and ask $$$'s for. Back then too, selling on eBay was new and also the fees were very little so buying something for $1 and flipping for $5 was doable. Anyone doing that today on eBay, as a flipper, would be losing money. Frankly it's a pointless flip. Those who make it a point to suck up everything, especially a free comic on comic day to flip later to make $$$, frankly is sad and does more to harm the hobby than anything.
I'm looking at Conan the Barbarian #1 8.5 on eBay 700.00 wondering if I should buy it for my Conan collection for my wall? I hate it when I run to get things and it's out it's only been out a few days. I just want to read it.
What gets me are the flippers that chastise people for buying something for their personal collection. Most are comments like " Why did you buy that and your not going to get your money back."
Ive seen flipping since 1989 when we used to do comic shows. But Im sure its been around since comics were sold. Most of the flippers at the time where ages 15 to 23. People who are just starting out looking to add extra to the income. But dont fool yourself. Some of those guys would walk around and have a stack and sell maybe 20 to 30 books a day. They could make and extra $100 to $150 a day and for a 16 year old, thats not bad. Only drawback that I used to see is that the flipper always overgraded by at least a half grade. So the deal the buyer thought they were getting wasnt the big deal at all. AND after being screwed a few times, that buyer would avoid the flipper. But the flipper would move to another victim. I found the biggest problem are sport guys who dabble in comics. MOST dont know enough about the books and are better off staying in their sport expertise realm. Sometimes asking 10 times retail cause "Its Old" or cause "Its Mint". With the comic collector bring about reality in grading the book at a VG+4.5. Used to see that all the time.
I've sold off a few portions of my collection over the years as my taste has changed and am no longer interested in certain titles anymore. Even doing that made me wonder if it's even worth it to make sure that they are in good condition, pictured well, write a full accurate description and then take the time to list them on eBay. A few almost meltdowns have occurred when I'm 3 long boxes deep into pricing and grading books with 3.5 more to go where I wonder what the point of anything is.
Its completely bs with these flippers scalpers for neca tmnt at Target I've been to five targets looking everyone is sold out but if I look on offer up in my area they're selling the same figures for up to 60 80 bucks when they're 35 in the store somebody's been going around just buying all of them up
He admitted that twice in the video what’s your point? There’s degrees to it and sticky doesn’t seem like the scummy type. He’s showing humility he mentioned he may fall into the category himself twice
I honestly don't understand why you would be upset about somebody flipping a comic book that you had flipped to them. With the exception of maybe subscription copies, every comic book we own was bought from someone else, and every comic book we've sold was bought from someone else. There's literally no way to collect or sell comics without buying someone else's comics first. It's the nature of the hobby. Should the store I bought a comic from be mad when I sell it, or should the guy who sold you the slab first be mad at you for selling it to the other flipper? Of course not. I also don't understand your "small potatoes" accusation, considering that you sold a slab you bought for $55 for $80 (55 slabs for $3K rounds up to a $55 average per book). You made a $25 profit selling that slab, which is only $5 more than the other flipper made selling the same book. How is a $20 profit considered "small potatoes" but a $25 profit isn't?
Bro you can complain all you want about having to pay resale. That’s the name of the game these days. I also found it funny that you talked down on resellers.
I flip to fund the hobby. Trust me I give small LCS business purchasing there stock. I try to be reasonable pricing by checking ebay and other prices. The only I don't dress like those flippers. lol
I got to admit, this video confuses me. It starts off talking about how you flipped book. Then goes on talking about how flipping low is inconsequential. Afterwards saying not to do it. I think flipping has always been done. you talk about FOMO on a few books lately, if you look in the image starting day, EVERYONE was buying cause they didn't want to miss a big payday. Is it sad, sure, but it is the way of the world. I never sold a comic till I made my own. My son has gotten into the flip game, he has made so many connections, both buyers and seller. Gotta remember, flipping helps Stores and vendors, which are cornerstones of this industry. Just my opinion, causal collectors can always buy reprints/trades... I don't flippers hurt the industry. Just an opinion
It's capitalism. Ya can't really be emotional about it I would think. It's not like selling a dog or cat, it's a slab or comic book. Most industries have aftermarkets for products. Comic book flipping has been around forever. Why do you think people watch channels like ComicTom101? I don't think it's a bad thing. If flippers use software bots to but up all the PS5's or similar bad human behavior, I definitely don't think that's cool. Too buy up supply and spike the prices on it after artificially creating a market shortage is actually illegal....price gouging. Tough case to prove though. Ask all the jackasses that were selling water and toilet paper during the Wuhan Flu goofiness.
Phoenix resale has almost single handedly destroyed the video game hobby, I used to watch his videos til I started realizing what he was doing. He’s trying to monopolize retro inventory
@@jimmyhayes6017 yea its sad but its the people that keep buying his stuff is the problem too! If we would just close our wallets, then that nonsense would not happen! Sadly people seem to have more money than sense
I flip on eBay, go to garage sales, flea markets, etc, whatever I make, I buy more comics for me. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe your beef is not with flipping but more with the non-collectors that know jack squat about comics
This a weak commentary on that part of the industry. Comics are very different than PS5 and other retail items. If a customer wants a comic, they can almost all add it to a pull with as many copies that they would like. Comic issues can be somewhat guaranteed if you check the previews and know what is coming. Don't got time, tough luck and that is what the secondary market is for. Seems hypocritcal that you buy collections and sell anything. People are allowed to change their mind on owning. I've bought many comics I later decided I didn't really want anymore, sometimes immediatly after. Expecting someone who buys from you, only to keep that comic as a cherished PC forever is lunacy.
Personally, I blamed the flipping of the PS5 and the SNES Classic Edition on Sony and Nintendo. They failed to release enough on the initial release to satisfy demand. With the research data they had, they knew what demand would be. If they could only release a limited amount due to a lack of chips, they should have increased the initial price. They should have set the price at the scalper price. Then when they could release more because the chips were more available, they could drop the price of the consoles.
So I’ve got a bunch of unique $1 bills. Each has a unique serial number, guaranteed. These were only printed once and will never be printed again. I am prepared to sell them at a loss as I need the money to flip something else. $5 each! I know what I got bro…😅
Oof scrapping the bottom of the barrel for content huh? No one likes flippers but everyone including you has done it. Welcome to capitalism and stale points of view.
Great way to tell on yourself. I wouldn’t consider myself a “dirty flipper,” but I’m also not sitting in a privileged spot like you handing down life lessons and judging people. Just leave people alone and let them do what they want to do. It’s not like you have control over it anyway. You’re just making videos. If I really want a new comic and somebody snatched them up, there are plenty of venues to get them.

😂😂😂 man I am loving your videos!
I started busting out laughing when the video went to you. I had a feeling you were going to be dressed the role. LETS GOOOOOOOOO! haha
lol exactly... I was like watch the mofo come on with a shirt, hat back and a chain haha
@@HarperBomb and boom... correct. Sticky Thug
cant forget the dirty sanchez 'stache alot of em have too
I have been collecting many items for many years. I have never sold one item. I don't understand flippers. I guess they're bored and have time to drive around endlessly. I'm not sure how people have time for that.
They really did a number on PS5 release
I buy to flip …but the problem is i then don’t want to sell 😂
Flipping is in every hobby. To each his own. If I get a price I want to sell a book I could care less what someone else does. If you can snowball your flipping at a 20%-50% margin per transaction, you can build a big pile of cash down the line.
I’ve only ever sold books of mine to eventually buy that same book but in a better grade, I’ve bought and sold 3 FF#49’s in order to now have a 6.0 FF#49 😂
I flip and take the proceeds to complete my amazing Spider-Man collection
People that use the term “PC” means they’re a flipper.
lol yea, cringe as hell term.
For second I thought that was you in the thumbnail. 😂
That's Lobster Boy.
LOL waitin for Jerno to cry about this one since he basically got described to a T 😂😂😂
😂😂😂exactly
I like this guy. He doesn’t take himself too seriously.
It's not what the hobby has become, yet modern culture in general.
Never thought you would see people flipping toilet paper 😂
Comedy Genius Sticky! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻though it’s done just with Comics!
StickyGoose is f'n amazing lol.... this dude is always bringing the best content.
Those who make it a point to suck up everything, especially a free comic on comic day to flip later to make $$$, frankly is sad and does more to harm the hobby than anything.
i may not always flip, but when i do, i flip big
I'm looking at Conan the Barbarian #1 8.5 on eBay 700.00 wondering if I should buy it for my Conan collection for my wall? I hate it when I run to get things and it's out it's only been out a few days. I just want to read it.
What gets me are the flippers that chastise people for buying something for their personal collection. Most are comments like " Why did you buy that and your not going to get your money back."
Ive bought and sold books for a profit, but ive never worn a "sports ball shirt", over sized or otherwise. Am I a flipper?
I recommend you let this hobby to fund itself to buy bigger and better books
I've sold off a few portions of my collection over the years as my taste has changed and am no longer interested in certain titles anymore. Even doing that made me wonder if it's even worth it to make sure that they are in good condition, pictured well, write a full accurate description and then take the time to list them on eBay. A few almost meltdowns have occurred when I'm 3 long boxes deep into pricing and grading books with 3.5 more to go where I wonder what the point of anything is.
Knew of people flipping houses buying low but they had to spend more to sell it.
Flipping is just part of collecting...
"It's been that way since we crawled out of the slime."
Money for nuthin’ and your chicks for free… I want my.. I want my.. I want my…Sticky Goose TeeeeVeeee
If you think its bad in comics try sports cards! 😂
As soon as you sold your comic to someone, you are the flipper.
Its completely bs with these flippers scalpers for neca tmnt at Target I've been to five targets looking everyone is sold out but if I look on offer up in my area they're selling the same figures for up to 60 80 bucks when they're 35 in the store somebody's been going around just buying all of them up
Hey, I bought that Artgerm Wonder Woman slab lol!
I enjoy the "hunt". And then I enjoy the flip! Let's go!
If you sell comic books anywhere but a store or convention scene you’re probably a flipper.
Is that Jorneo?!?!?
putin says i hope all these flippers have been paying taxes.
You literally described yourself.
He admitted that twice in the video what’s your point? There’s degrees to it and sticky doesn’t seem like the scummy type. He’s showing humility he mentioned he may fall into the category himself twice
just what I was thinking 😂
I can’t bear to sell anything but I buy comics all the time.
I didn't know there was a dress code.
Bro you can complain all you want about having to pay resale. That’s the name of the game these days. I also found it funny that you talked down on resellers.
Dirty Flippers! 🤣🤣
Another name for flipping is capitalism.
Another name for the content of this comment is stupidity
I love sportsball!
I flip to fund the hobby. Trust me I give small LCS business purchasing there stock. I try to be reasonable pricing by checking ebay and other prices. The only I don't dress like those flippers. lol
They look like that because they are armed
I guess you sell all the books you buy in collections at a loss?
He admitted he probably falls into the flipper category twice in the video dumb dumb, so this comment is pretty pointless
Whatch out for the 1099k forms. Uncle Sam is coming for all of you.
You get what peole vote for
Omg the Biden pix!!
Says the guy who gets things slabbed for no real reason. The Book is not a Key. It just gets slabbed and suddenly worth 20X the cover price.?
Lol😂
I wish I can flip lol.😂
Im Flipper the Dolphin 🐬

Flippers.🐬
It’s called capitalism buddy! Get used to it and it is a way to make money 💵!
You should collect be in the retro video game scene!
Are people really hurting??? I think they are just doing it for fun or to be a butt head.
"A sportsball shirt" 😂you mean a jersey?
False. Comic stores can hold those books, lie say they didn't get them and sell them on eBay under another account. This happens ALL the time.
I never sell can't be a flipper?
You’re becoming more relevant in a bear market
So I’ve got a bunch of unique $1 bills. Each has a unique serial number, guaranteed. These were only printed once and will never be printed again. I am prepared to sell them at a loss as I need the money to flip something else. $5 each! I know what I got bro…😅
Oof scrapping the bottom of the barrel for content huh? No one likes flippers but everyone including you has done it. Welcome to capitalism and stale points of view.
How much do you want to flip that 181 behide you lol
Great way to tell on yourself. I wouldn’t consider myself a “dirty flipper,” but I’m also not sitting in a privileged spot like you handing down life lessons and judging people. Just leave people alone and let them do what they want to do. It’s not like you have control over it anyway. You’re just making videos. If I really want a new comic and somebody snatched them up, there are plenty of venues to get them.
