MOVING FROM NEW YORK TO SINGAPORE WITH MY DOG! (during covid + 36 hours of travel)

- This is our journey moving from NY to SG during the COVID-19 pandemic and taking our dog with us on a super long-haul international flight. We have spent the previous two months preparing for Kopi's documentation and getting permission to enter Singapore (Singapore has closed it's borders to most travelers due to COVID-19). This video is actually showing the easy part hehe =)
Hope you enjoy it and comment below on any questions you may have~
Some products we used on flight:
Cheese chew stick: amzn.to/3jF8YAP
Female dog diaper: amzn.to/3hEw6xk
Music credit: bensound.com
What a good traveler! Despite the stress of the flight, Kopi behaved really well. The sensuous walk with diaper was something epic!
Good girl! Thx for sharing. Glad that he gets to travel with her pawrents throughout the flight instead of being caged up.
Take care, stay safe. Oh yes, welcome to Singapore, of course!
I'm so happy you both arrived safely and healthily. Thank you for the video.
hehe thanks ~
Wow, such a well behaved dog, and very lucky indeed to have such owner who care to bring it all the way from another corner of the globe to Singapore, hope you guys enjoy your stay here!
hehe thanks
This is so helpful! I’ll be traveling to SG with my dog soon too and I was worried sick until I saw this :) Was it difficult to reserve the quarantine spce for the pup?
hey, it was difficult for us because we didn't reserve it early enough~ I think it is best to reserve it as early as you can (like 2/3 months ahead). But we managed to find a space with the help of nparks~
@@kopikoala Thank you so much for the info.
Did you reserve quarantine space before flying out? Wondering how long you waited to get your reservation. I think there's a 6 month waiting time now
Welcome to singapore
God bless you guys
Cheers
Kopi is so sweet! What a good doggo! Welcome to Singapore Kopi and family. ❤️ Was interested to know how Kopi flew with you in the cabin but read your response. We would be our girls’ emotional support humans instead of the other way around. Lol
heh thanks!! We are each others' emotional support haha
Welcome to Singapore, Kopi (and parents) - hope you will like it here.
Furbaby looks so cute wearing a diaper 😁🥰
Welcome to Singapore Kopi ! :)
You have an amazing dog!!♥
Oh why to LA though I thought there’s flight from Newark airport and omg to be separated from your pet for 14 days is a torture!
hey, it's because the direct flight were canceled from NYC area to Singapore back in June due to Covid =(( yea the 14 days quarantine was really bad, and the humans couldn't visit Kopi at all..
Hello !!! Did you book economy seats ? Im going to travel with my babies soon wondering how it was
Hey we did book economy seats! but it was during the height of Covid so the plane was almost empty. They put us in an exit row with extra leg room so it was perfectly fine. But I'm not sure about now...
Hi love your video !!!
I would love to ask you some questions regarding the preparations and paperwork for dogs importing to Singapore. Me and my husband are moving to Singapore hopefully by the end of the year and I’m struggling where to start. 😭 I would really appreciate any kind of advice and tips. Thank you so much 🙏
Hey, I think you should look into reserving a dog quarantine space at the government quarantine facility first (assuming that you are coming from a country that needs quarantine for dogs), they were fully booked when I tried to reserve it but I emailed Nparks and they found a place for Kopi. Otherwise, I basically followed the Nparks website really closely, www.nparks.gov.sg/avs/pets/bringing-animals-into-singapore-and-exporting/bringing-in-and-transshipping-dogs-and-cats/preparing-to-bring-dogs-and-cats-into-singapore, I know it's a lot of information but you will get through it if you read it slowly and carefully. The most anxiety inducing part for us is probably waiting for the serology test to be sent back to us in time~
@@Supertomatozz thank you so much! Yes the serology is the tricky one. May I know how long did it take you to process all the documents, reservations and vaccines for your pup?
@@jenniferhonor9645 hey I totally meant to reply using Kopi's account, I think we started preparing maybe 2/3 months in advance? But at the time, most flights were canceled so it was more tricky. Definitely doable in a shorter time. I think the first rabies shot to meet the requirements has to be done somewhat early or else you might need to quarantine your pup for longer in Singapore. I think it's a good idea to email Nparks if you have any questions or have any difficulties, they were helpful to me.
@@kopikoala thank you so much! We are just waiting for our visa to get approve then by that time I know the time frame on how much time I need to process all the documents needed for my pup! ❤️ thanks again for your advice I hope to see you soon in Singapore
@@jenniferhonor9645 Good luck ! and please let me know when you are here~ We can have a pup date~
Thank you for this video as it has been really helpful. I will also be flying to Singapore with my dog in cabin and I was wondering how transferring your dog works when you reach Singapore as I will be reaching after the hours of CAPQ. Did you just go to the lost and found area? Thank you!
hey after we reached, we went through immigration first and informed them of our arrangements for our dog with Nparks, and then proceeded to the lost and found area. It's located after immigration before the buses to quarantine hotels. They took our documents and sent our dog to CAPQ. We arrived in the morning though so I'm not sure how it works if it's after hours ~ I think you can call them to check?
@@kopikoala thanks so much for the reply! Yes, I’ve tried calling them but people seem to be confused or not sure. Just wondering if you had a specific contact for NParks as currently I only have the generic email they provided. I appreciate the reply 💕 also, did you have to go to CAPQ yourself as there is a section for that for the instructions so I was a bit confused cuz of quarantine
@@christymadilao hey I just emailed the generic email for nparks. When we arrived at lost and found, they took some time to get us a carrier for Kopi since we didn’t have one. Probably could have called in advance to prepare one. They put her in the carrier on a very short conveyor belt to what I assumed is CAPQ, and told us to proceed to our hotel. So we only had to get to the lost and found, and they will take your pet from there..
Good job, Kopi!
I noticed from LA to SG you are seated where the baby bassinets are. Would you recommend that? I'm planning to take my dog from SG to SF in Sep. Her first long haul flight. I'm nervous.
Hey, I was actually given that seat by SQ coz they wanted to give me more room, and yes I would recommend it since it’s more space for the dog to lay down. Also wouldn’t have issues with touching the person in front ~ And good luck !
Hi, how did you manage to fly your dog with you in cabin?
She's certified as an emotional support animal.. replying for others who are curious too ~
Hey did u take singapore airlines from LA - SG? They allow your furbaby on board?
Yes we did ~ They allowed her on board because she was an emotional support animal
Awww you have the same name as me, my channel name is also Koala. And I’m also looking to bring my puppy to SG from US. I landed in SG but not my puppy yet. How to do that?
heyyy Koala! Nice to meet you~ I think you probably need to hire a pet relocation company? We traveled together so I'm really not sure if there's a way to bring a pup from US to SG without an accompanying human
@@kopikoala oh nice to meet you too! Yes I can travel with my pet again :) can I ask.... which company? how long it takes to get approval for u? And how much? 🐶🐶🐶
@@TheKrazyKoala We actually didn't use a company at the time since we decided to travel with her together on Singapore Airlines. I think it quite expensive to use a company to relocate a pet.. a few thousands~ which is also why we decided to travel together..
@@kopikoala thank you. if you don't mind to answer my other question too " how long it takes to get approval for u?" i haven't done any vaccine at all lol
@@TheKrazyKoala We started preparing probably 3 months before?? I think the rabies vaccines took the longest. There are different criteria you have to meet to determine whether they would be quarantines for 10 days vs longer. I think it's best to start as early as possible...
Hi, I would like to check which vet did you go to for the pre-flight certifications in New York? We are planning to return to sg with our pup after a roadtrip that ends in NYC but is unsure where to get the pre-flight certifications done.
Hey we actually did it with a vet in Philly area since we were staying there temporarily before our flight~ I think it'll be helpful to find a vet who is experienced in filling in such export forms.
@@kopikoala thank you for the kind reply!
Hi, sorry for asking another question. Do u mind giving me the vet shop's name that you went in Philly? My roadtrip passes by that area and I might need their services!
@@neonkelps5969 hey the one we used is called Colebrook Manor Animal Hospital~ they are not really in the city
Great video. I'm bringing my guy from the UK back to the States in a couple of weeks and quite anxious for it. Just a question, I notice that she's not in a carrier. Did you get special permission from the airline to do that?
Hey, she's not in a carrier because she's an emotional support animal. I know many airlines recognize it in the US, but I'm not sure about the UK~
Good girl , Thanks for sharing , we are planing to move to Singapore with my tiny toy poodle in next 2 month , she is also emotional support dog what airline did you travel with ? Thanks
hey we traveled with Singapore Airlines~~ they were really accommodating and gave us extra leg room because we have a dog with us
Hi how you can got him fly in the cabin? Is he service animal? Because Singapore airlines does not permit pets to travel in the cabin. I’m planning to travel with my 2 small dogs to Asia soon.
Hi, she’s a certified emotional support animal which Singapore airlines allows at the moment
@@kopikoala good to know. Thank you
Hi when u entered Singapore, I think u have to quarantine and did they allow u to quarantine together with kopi?
hey, we have to quarantine at the hotel and Kopi has to quarantine at Sembawang~ We actually extended Kopi's quarantine to 14 days because we could only pick her up after our own quarantine
the main thing im wondering at this point in time is during the wait to board and then any transfers for long haul flights where can my dog go for a number 1 and 2 lol?
Hey some airports have pet relief areas for that but my dog is not used to doing it indoors.. so she actually didn’t pee during the whole trip. We put a diaper on her just in case in the airport and she actually pooped in it 😓.
Great vlog and sense of humor! I'm really nervous about flying with my 50 lbs dog to Bangkok and your video is very realistic for a dog that's not used o flying and a looong international trip for that matter. What airline did you take? Thanks.
Thanks!! We took Singapore Airlines~ We were really nervous before our flight too but everything went fine in the end, hope you would have a smooth journey too!
@@Supertomatozz I thought SQ only allowed pets as checked baggages. How did you manage Kopi to be in cabin?
Hi. Awesome vid. Which airline did you guys fly?
Hey we flew Singapore Airlines~
@@kopikoala Thanks. I guess things changed since you flew. I'm getting ready to fly with my dog to Asia and when I contacted Singapore Air, they no longer accept pets on board the flight. The only way my small dog can fly is as checked bag or separate flight on cargo flight. :(
@@Vagas2012 We flew Kopi as a certified emotional support animal. I'm not sure if there are changes to their policy since then regarding emotional support animal~
36 hour? Wow.....
just wondering what was that pill you gave her? Im flying with my 2 service dogs in May from Manila to Washington D and Im so anxious about it
Hey, we gave her little tramadol but that seemed to make her feel worse so we didn't give her that for the rest of the flight.. We were really anxious too! but it usually works out fine in the end =)
@@kopikoala thanks for sharing! very helpful thank you
What airline did you use?
hey we took Singapore airline ~
@@kopikoala thanks, I am hoping to fly soon with my dog from China to USA. But keep getting mixed signals from airlines.
@@sarahaustin5457 I think it really depends on the place of origin. Since we flew out from US, it was pretty clear what we had to do~
what breed is Kopi? soo cute
I think I'm an Australian Shepherd mix but we are not sure.. 100% good girl though hehe
Are they allowed to flight during covid?
hey, I think it really depends on the airline. Each airline has different policies~
Is there 10days quarantine?
Hey there is! Kopi actually did 14 days due to Covid restrictions at the time.
Can u plz tell, what kind of pill u gave him before the flight? Is it doctor referred?
Tia...
Hey, we gave Kopi a little bit of trazadone in the beginning but actually found her to be better without it. so I actually would recommend not giving any. But consulting with your vet is probably the best.
@@kopikoala Thanks 😊 🙏
Hi, how to let the airline know that I wanna let my pet to be in cabin instead of cargo ?
hey you can only do so if the airline allows emotional support animals.. probably have to contact the airline to check, each one has different procedures
wow! i;ve always wanted to bring my dogs along. which airline did you guys flew that allows kopi be in the cabin together?
we flew Singapore Airlines but in the US they recognize emotional support animals, which is the only reason that we can take her with us in the cabin~
@@kopikoala how to prove that our pet is emotional support animal?
@@reynettefausto2537 There are regulations you can read. Generally need a certification from a licenses psychiatrist.
@@kopikoala yes I noticed that on your other replies...thanks for your share
Hi
I am having a hard time getting USDA health certificate. Because of Covid they are not open for appointments or walk in. How did you manage to get the USDA certificate? Also is it really necessary to get USDA certificate or the vet’s certificate would do. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hey, I think the USDA certificate is necessary. Our vet mailed it to them! I found a vet with experience doing such certifications and I think that’s the best way forward~
@@kopikoala thanks for the message. Appreciate it. But doesn’t it have to be done within 7 days of travel? How did you manage to mail it to them and receive hard copy back from USDA within a week?
@@catmanjoe4312 hey I think she used overnight carrier. I remember it was a bit stressful but everything did arrive on time~
@@kopikoala Hi Sorry to bother you with my questions. On the form “ Veterinary certification for the import of dogs and cats into Singapore” - Page 7 Section IV (Must be endorsed by official government veterinarian). Does this page needs to be filled by USDA? If USDA doesn’t fill it and just issues a certificate, will that suffice? Thanks
I am bringing my cat this month end and lot of the information is not very clear for me. Thanks again.
@@catmanjoe4312 Hey I think it has to be filled by USDA. I just checked my form, it seemed to be signed by the USDA vet.
Can you share how you were able to fly with your dog on the plane? We just spoke to a professional company that said no way he can fly with us on board and we have to ship him. Thank you!
We flew as an emotional support animal from the US. Some airlines allow ESA onboard.
@@kopikoala did you need to notify Singapore airline ahead of time about your dog or did you just show up with the ESA paperwork?
@@TommySuriwong Hey we did email Singapore airlines a few weeks before our flight. Not sure if it's necessary but we did it just to be safe.
I wonder if Kopi experienced pressure in the ears.
hehe I wonder...
What is it like going through TSA with a dog? Do you have to unleash their harness and everything?:0
Hey sorry for the late reply, we actually didn't unleash anything. We just walked through as per usual..
Wonderful
Can I ask how heavy your dog is at the time? We’re trying to get our pup in cabin with us but I know they’re strict about weight.
hey, my dog was around 18kg. They allowed her on as an emotional support animal~
@@kopikoala do you have an IG for kopi? I’d like to pick your brain a little if you don’t mind
@@kopikoala how were you able to get kopi as an emotional support dog? we want our pup in cabin with us but most airlines don’t allow it, unfortunately.
@@ratatat hey they might have changed the rules since we flew but at the time Singapore Airlines allowed emotional support animals on their flights~

Why is it irresponsible exactly? And it’s a she.
