Can You Beat Alatreon Without Elemental Damage? | Monster Hunter World 2023

- I'm not sure why I subjected myself to this challenge but it was so worth it in the end to see how it played out. There aren't a whole ton of Challenge Runs out there for Monster Hunter World and this challenge that was tied to just one monster ended up being a lot of fun for me to do. It was a very easy challenge to do that was still managable by using a good build. I highly recommend.
Fun fact: its even possible to defeat Alatreon with 4 Hunters. Only know that cuz of Team Darkside, since they showed us that you can survive a full powered Escaton Judgement.
Yeah I remember that from a long time ago! 4 boosters and stuff haha
or just kill him with 4 hbg before he escatons
u aint even got to do that if u watch deva they have goofy fast speedruns that kill alatreon so fast he cant even do his escaton once if 4 skilled hbg players run pierce 3 hbg u could probably do it
please stop promoting regurgitated tds rubbish when there’s 10x better runners with cooler ideas
Yeah it’s possible to outheal it, but barely. You need extreme amounts of coordination for it to be possible, and very specific sets with wide range and stuff from what I remember. Totally not intended or viable in the majority of cases, but technically possible.
I’m not surprised the immediate answer to the question is yes, but it is mostly about how much are you willing to throw yourself at the wall in in order to actually make it possible due to the way that his mechanics work. Because normally most people would just do the elemental mechanics rather than brute force it. Really it’s like using the same element against a monster immune to it, possible but not really recommended. Cheers mate
Yeah the answer was always yes but I wanted to see how it turned out haha. Thank you for watching!
@@TeraRyza Happy to be back more than anything Ryza. Now do Extreme Behemoth solo lol
@TeraRyza @@VashimuXIV I want to see the Extreme Behemoth solo xD
It's not the same thing as bringing an immune element at all. Alatreons raw hitzones are massive, some of the highest in the game so getting a sub nova run isn't some huge feat of skill, just bring a raging brach/fatalis weapon and at most eat one judgement.
I'm far from some s tier speedrunner and I have a subnova solo GS run.
Ever since i got full fatalis I just went raw with everything and brute forced alatreon, only fainted once
Man what a satisfying kill, backstabbing while mounted. My favorite "quest complete" kill screen was me claw shotting Shara Ishvalda in the face, and the little damage the claw does killed it.
It's because you clawed it's eye out 😤
@@TeraRyzaSafi really didn't see that one coming that day lol
I’ve had many moments where I’m pretty sure I killed a monster with a kinsect I know my first shara kill was one and maybe my first safi (not sure about that last one tho) along with others
You definetly can. My only solo kill was Peirce HBG.
But i guess thats what the full video is gonna be!
But im still not a fan of how heavy element or INSANE Meta raw damage is needed.
it's not really that heavy on element at all. You don't even need special set bonuses or safi/KT weapons or any of that shit.
@@roar104 This so hard, you don't need meta or special sets, just a bit of element. My first Alatreon kill was literally just me trying out dual blades for the first time. Pretty sure I just used some random crap as I was about MR30, and since I was a solo player at the time I never fought safi or KT. Just had to play to one element and slowly figure out how to fight him. It was so much fun to learn the hunt. Other than element damage I had all quality of life like stamina, health boost, etc. I came back later when I branched out to multiplayer and finally fought safi and KT. It was a true breeze after that with my prior experience and better gear. I loved this fight, and loved Fatalis even more. I want more epic fights like these in the future.
@@roar104 how hard the ele threshold is to hit depends more on weapon type rather than build tbh. Certain weapons like Switch Axe get dicked by a much lower modifier than they should, while weapons like charge blade have it super ez. By the time you set up spinning axe you break the threshold instantly lol.
@@RepublicofODLUM I actually intentionally picked GS for my first time to beat Alatreon. Knowing his hitzones and which of your attacks have high elemental motion values helps a LOT. The strongest on GS is to charge up, tackle, and do the followup wide sweep. Just draw attacks were also fine though, and did more damage overall.
The thing is, the game doesn't tell you these things, you have to find them out through spreadsheets players created, which is a bit... eh.
frostfang barioth or beotodus fucking sweeps the guy and it’s not that hard to make, just use a safi set with a frost charm or something
i just unlocked the alatreon fight a few days ago; haven't opened it up yet out of sheer intimidation, but watching you do those little ledge hops over and over again while dodging all the AOEs is SO entertaining and oddly encouraging. definitely internalizing some of those dodge patterns for when i get around to fighting it. kudos on the kill!
What did you end up thinking about him?
You just played out of your damn mind! Truly inspiring stuff, well done!
I tried so hard haha. Thank you!❤
it is possible to do it without ele, but if you wanna do it with no deaths you have to do insane amount of damage in the 1st phase with no messups
Not how that works. You'd still die because ele power is what weakens the blast.
@@KippoKupo you can kill him before he does judgment I’m saying
@@KippoKupoi mean there is a video of a squad with 4 people that take him down in 30 seconds
Lol! Love your editing and delivery style ❤! It's really cool to see these type of challenge runs👊! Epic mount kill. lol 😂! That was fun to watch! GG, Tera!
Thank you Cake! I literally just saw your VR Chat video of the Gathering Hub. I love it, haha ❤️
@@TeraRyza Oh yay! Keep up the great work! Thank you so much for watching my videos, too, fren! I'm glad you loved it! 🥰🙏
Nice one. 13:25 never thought i hear someone be so happy about escaton judgment happening 😂. Funny thing the hunting knife that does one damage was the one to do the finishing blow.
Alatreon is a good fight but at times unfair do to rng of him flying. He can literally spend half the fight flying making it hard to reach the nova threshold and break his horns as well. With practice we can all beat him but their could of been a better way to implement his escaton judgment. I believe that super nova should either take a bit more longer before occurring or be saved for a alatreon event quest. That way we avoid the flying rng issue. Though his fight is fun just got to practice.
The rambo challenge:
Go on an expedition to the guiding lands and hunt as many monsters as possible before fainting.
Rules:
Can only use items and gadgets you brought with you so no gathering at all. Vigorwasp are allowed to use.
No restocking, changing gear, or eating at camp
No palico
Only have one life after you faint the challenge ends
Rambo Challenge sounds super possible and not crazy where I have to devote 30 hours haha. I love it. Thanks Fox!
Oh... So slightly stricter pre-World expedition rules. Once you're on quest, you're out there
Unlike other monsters, Alatreon's flying isn't RNG, but more of a mini-phase that is programmed to happen at a certain time. If you time the enrages, you can actually try and get him to fly when unenraged so you can end it with Flash or Flinchshot.
@@LoncusZhao *tucks tip into chest pocket*
@@savvivixen8490 Oh dam really I always assumed it was rng since some times he seems to fly for way longer than other times. Like some times he will fly for a second or 2 and then land while other times he stays up there for eternity. Well good to know this I always wondered why some times I could bring him down with a flash pod while other times i couldn't. Thanks.
Fighting Alatreon made me a better hunter. Though I haven’t beat him by myself, the time I spent on him made other monster a lot easier and didn’t fail many hunts after him. Except fatalis. In a strange way he helped through MHR dealing with the likes P.Malzeno and Amatsu. Both I managed to do solo.
You should go back and fight him lol if you can fight those 20 hit combo rise elders
@@kevo300 I have fought him a handful of times after and it definitely helped. Still haven’t beaten him solo, but I’ve come close.
I feel like you should just go all in on Raw damage, and just kill him at this point. Hazard Primordial is defos way harder.
Nice job, that’s pretty funny that the way you killed him was with those little 1 damage stabs while mounted lol. If someone were to try beating him without element then greatsword is definitely a good way to do it. With or without element if you make yourself a frostcraft greatsword set and use mostly draw attacks that’s one of the best methods to beat him in my opinion.
It’s definitely viable to beat him with only raw damage but you need to know the moveset so you don’t cart to anything but EJ. and it is highly recommended that you use element if playing with randoms otherwise you’re very likely to fail the quest.
Also FYI when he does his big dragon explosion that he charges up for a few seconds the hitbox in front of his head doesn’t extend nearly as far as it does around the rest of his body, so sometimes all you have to do is run away a little bit and not need to dive as long as you’re in front of his head. But I like to run evade window so I can i frame his attacks and stay in the action, it’s definitely one of the best defensive skills you can use against Alatreon.
So I'm an IG main. And even though that's what I am, i still try to play other weapons. I didn't have any elemental weapons for Alatreon when I got to this point, but my Dual Blades were all set and ready. But I'm mediocre at it, but screw it we will try. Failed many times.
Looked up guides on ways to cheese alatreon. saw lbg guide that said to just use palico plunderblade and get alatreon lbg and use it against him. Did so. Farmed mats to craft elemental ammo on the go. I clearly sucked at LBG, and failed so many times. BUT what I was getting during the time playing LBG with alatreon, was understanding his moveset.
I finally said F*ck it. Let's just see how I do with my IG even though I have literally no elemental. So I pick up my shatterspear, put on my teo/safi mixed set, and hopped in. I was only dying to the DPS check, AND I shattered both of his horns and his tail on the first try. Still wiped, but I was immediately confident that I could do it without an element. Second time, downed him.
Realized I need to just stop trying to cheese things in game because I'm clearly just good with IG, and even if IG doesn't have the best elemental hit values, I probably would have had no issues.
Eventually made Ice Safi Glaive and confirmed that yes this was indeed true. I still thank my LBG runs for helping me learn alatreon's moves though.
Well the game forces your hand a bit by not stating that you could do it with raw damage albeit its kind of tough. Banking on dying on purpose is also not a norm strategy haha. But yeah I feel you on trying to make a weapon you're not used to to get past a challenge in any game. Always better to stick to your main! Although I do like learning new weapons sometimes!
IG can hit the elemental damage thresholds just by using a buffed elemental kinsect. No need for the glaive to be elemental.
Awesome run bro!
Thank you bro! 😤
This was a very fun vid!!! It was sick you murdered a Black Dragon with a 1 dmg mount.
Apparently I'm the best of the best 😌
Jk i got so lucky 😅🤣
@@TeraRyza when i was at my hunting days. my kinsect does the final move sometimes XD
Way to go! You are quite persistent. 😊
with one faint, comeback with fortify enhancement, my fatalis gunlance said you can truly.
Dang one faint?! Fatalis Weapons are good but not as good as you haha
Is funny and cool to see you getting better each run, getting alatreons attack patterns, and everything
Im impressed i didnt think it was possible but you prooved me wrong and gained a sub!
Awww thanks Sejiko! I'm happy you enjoyed it haha
6:20 Wait, you can actually knock him out of the sky? How?! Every single time I've ever tried, he just STAYS FLYING.
It's kind of weird but actually try to aim your camera downward when you fire. It apparently helps which even I didn't know for a long time
@@TeraRyza Great! YET ANOTHER layer of bullshit for this stupid fight. F*ck alatreon, man! I earned two weapons and a full armor set from him, I'm NOT fighting that BS again.
If you flinch shot a non aggro flying monster they will be slammed into the ground
Its just an alternate version of wall slam
Another fun fact is blight resistance it protects you from elemental effects like burn or frozen, which decreases your health and stima the impact of the attack will still hurt you, but the effect will do nothing to you especially the dragon blight
flawless playing my dude this got me hyped up and motivated me to go give alatreon another try
but this isn't the part where I say "and i finally did it!!" i just got my ass handed to me again and alt f4d out i fucking hate this stupidass dragon so much it's unreal
Im pretty sure 90% of the switch axe mains knows how to do the discharge mount clutch but this also applies with other weapons! (im a insect glaive main so im used to getting mounts)
I'm still new to Monster Hunter as an actual player (I liked the franchise via my husband and his bro). This looks crazy. I'm still kind of clumsy so I'd be flopping around everywhere haha. 😂
1:02
Alatreon: YOU WANT TO WHAT..?
him: I meant what I said
I followed through with it in the end 😤😏
@@TeraRyzaI know and I enjoyed the vid
Now that's tenacity, I would have gone with frostcraft just to make the most out of crit draw and do even more damage but you managed to tank a few hits with thst loadout, impressive.
That's some beautiful great sword gameplay give all that old game vibe so much, simple attacks, beautiful movement and dodges
Also the music vibe beautifully
Prime example of: It's weak to me fucking hitting it
That was actually incredibly impressive
Thank you 💚😌
its possible to kill it fairly easily with only one faint being to the nova solo but if you play well its possible to kill it before its first eschaton
honestly i just sticky lbg’d alatreon until he escaton judgement. took the hit and had fortify so i could come back and hit him harder. you do have to die twice but you don’t even need to take safegaure. very comfy fight using bombardier imo, cuz the evading reload dodge patterns match weirdly well with alatreons attacks.
Theres a randomizer for monster hunter world
which means Alatreon can just show up in like the wildspire wastes on an expedition....
Or he can show up when you have to kill both him and another monster for a quest
I find it hilarious that you managed to kill Alatreon with your carving knife.
Goodjob. That really a good accomplishment in iceborne.
Not bad! Cant wait to see your content on MH6 🎉
I can't wait either. We just need the game to come out already 😌
me and my 2 friends beat alatreon in 3:53, pre rescaton it was crazy. we had 2 GS and one Bow, we also had no element
I remember when Alatreon first dropped, killed him after an hour and go online to see others do it and then found out people were cpmplaining that "he makes you change builds" and theres me sitting there with my Raging Brachy / Teostra build and my blast SnS beating him on my 9th attempt just taking the carts as a fortify buff hahahaha
Finally, World content
I thought it never existed
We're riding World all the way to Wilds baby
Theoretically, yes
The first time I fought him I had a fool brachy set and GS. I went to the battle blind and then under any research or anything I wanted to have the full Monster Hunter experience. I was the only one without element damage on my team. We still won I barely did damage I barely did shit I did not know what to do and I was too afraid so I leached.
So it is possible to do it You just need people to do them for you 😂
Definitely comes down to knowing how to fight alatreon, I don’t like using the elemental shutdown thing either, I finally beat him with long sword and 1 death with insurance there was plenty room for improvement, raw dogging Alatreon feels better ironically
I used lightbreak longsword for my first alatreon kill, just ate for insurance and then safeguard to ensure I had enough lives to kill it without stopping any judgements
The Lightbreak weapons are so OP. What I ended up using in the end haha
great run!
You don't even need super powerful elemental weapons. I did it with both the legiana and Anja LS, and Beotodus Dual blades.
Your right but it depends on your skill also. Kulve Taroth weapons melt him but thats another elder thats annoying to hunt (at least on your first playthrough)
This fight is pretty well telegraphed
So i did this today, without seeing the video first, with sword and shield. I fainted 3 times (only to novas) and hit almost every single perfect rush onto (at the very least) his front foot and head. I had an orgasm.
Nice job!!
I legit just killed Fatalis for the first time and I completely forgot that health boost skill existed XD
Can you not use Farcasters in the Alatreon fight? I know in 4U you could Farcaster away from monster novas, I figured this would be doable in World as well.
They literally are just not usable for Alatreon. You can bring them but can't use them haha
Pro tip: eating a gourmet voucher and then eating the open road platter with felyne safeguard gives you an additional life.
Also, immunity mantle 😅
Tera could you please share that build? Honestly one of the best ive seen.
Love this
Thank you! Happy you liked it haha
Yes, you can! I've seen speed hunter killing him with raw damage along.
Alatreon has two Rathalos Greatswords taped to his head.
I wouldn't mess with this guy, even WITH three other Hunters and a case of Astera Jerky.
Thats impressive. I wouldnt even try raw dawgin alatreon
I got that RawDawg in me 😤
The way you killed him 100/10
I was shocked 😌
Use Frostcraft. Slingerburst TCS at every taunt he does. Win.
3:00 new Pc file?🤔 You better call it an old revived save file. Veterans know why.
1:01 I'm listening
Motivation!
Before i even watch this video i'll say YES, its possible. Speed eating and mastered heal timing can allow player to survive escaton. Rest is normal fight for demage until beast is dead
You know you're stuff! That is definitely true haha
When is wilds or whatever the new one is named coming out. Might have to get back into world but i aint remeber anything.
I fucking beat my first Alatreon using a Raw ass GS... Elemental Damage makes it faster but beating its ass using Raw is fine hahah
Without seeing the video through yet I KNOW this is possible because I once saw a video of a gunlance SHELLING ala to death. Just goes to show gunlance best weapon! gang gang
Well, me and my buddies have tried 4 piercing heavy bow gun, completely destroyed Alatreon in less than 3 minutes. And we are not even hardcore speed runners.
your mic here still is sorta clipping, it's right at the edge there xd you might wanna tone the treble down just a touch, so it won't sound like it is about to off any second. other than that, solid video my man!
It is and it has been done for years you just need to kill him before the nova
I did it, in a solo hunt. So you can 100% do it.
edit. Frostcraft would go very well with your playstyle btw
Did the same you did but with a explosive GS lol
raw can win with insurance .
wait is fatalis world or ice born? also is alatreon the last boss and is it soloable?
Fatalis is the last boss of Iceborne and Alatreon could be considered the 2nd to last!
@francisindinibotwey840 Well not in the basegame of Monster Hunter World! Only in the expansion Iceborne is Fatalis Available!
ok but alatreon is base game?@@TeraRyza
@@TeraRyza no and both are soloable
Impressive
I love everything in the Alatreon fight, except for the elemental damage check.
Because the elemental damage check makes me feel like I am fighting against the developers forcing me into a different play style instead of fighting against a monster.
So that mechanic breaks immersion in that specific fight.
Otherwise I think he's fantastic.
Sadly it doesn't help that the devs basically fucked element for 90% of the game then randomly say here now it's required.
If element was actually usable and not just a detriment most of the time the reception would be better I feel.
Cause element in world is so dog shit it's not worth crafting a new weapon, upgrading charms and farming new decks for a like 5% DMG increase over my raw build
@@randoidgames1004 only a few weapons could do elemental damage better than raw.
Mainly dual blades and S&S, and I think Insect Glaive.
How is Alatreon shifting elements there at the end after you broke the horns?
Y'all think this strat would be viable with other weapons like charge blade? This seems to rely on the absolutely nutso damage from an endgame greatsword
As someone who refuses to build elemental, I appreciate you sticking it to Alatreon. Hate that guy
13:06 You *could* dodge through it lol.
Did it with hellish too !
Yes, absolutely.
Im thinking of using raw using my 3rd save lbg exclusive run. Raw pierce looks good as hell for alatreon.
Also, i can build it with much better and comfortable set compared to element with safi or silos armor. Safi is horrendous to farm and uncomfortable to use, while silos isnt exactly good and uncomfortable as well.
With raw i can add health boost and optimal dps build for survival even if i have to die every 3 minutes due to ESJ, i think its worth it.
The only downside is i have to solo it and die every 3 minutes making ancient pot/max pot is a must after each cart.
Its definitely not recommended for new player though, dying every 3 minutes will make you hard to learn his moveset, and it will destroy the battle fluidity, i prefer using element if i have good comfortable set, it makes the fight much better.
You can have 5 lives if you use food buff insurance (+1 life) and food buff safeguard (+1life) i dont know if the pallico vigorwasp revival will help but im betting it wont
Would work for any move of his other than the judgement
I've wondered, but can't you use the thing that TELEPORT you to the camp when he charge escathon judgment?
This way you'd dodge the attack
Naw, judgment will still get you even if you fly back to camp
Great, so basically unless you got some of the best gear you're screwed?
Well iceborne endgame is tough man
@@censure8751 it doesn't get you at camp, you just can't use farcasters in the fight
ROAR is correct. Farcasters are just not usable in the fight at all.
Yeah farcaster don't work I'm pretty sure we all tried it and were left panicking when it didn't work. I even tried the final fantasy jump but the dev's thought of everything.
Can you even dodge that escaton with superman dive? Havent played mhw so i dont know
Nahhhh there's nothing consistent you can do to cheese it haha
@@TeraRyza that means you cant superman dive it?
Does anyone know the armor he’s wearing to hide the Alatreon coil?
“Is it optimized? Idk, I just slapped it together”
The correct way to make any monster hunter build. Is awakened evade Babel spear good? No. Is it funny? Yes.
Can’t even get mad about him not using the true charge slash when he can beat it without fatalis armor and I can’t with a broken build
Yes Pierce Ammo, takes 2 Minutes x)
Can't you farcaster out of that thing or is that part of the challenge ? GG non the less mister, that's quite a challenge you gave yourself here
The game actually won't let you use your farcaster. There's no escaping that attack
Tera, do you know about Frostcraft Clutch Claw HBG?
amaizing!
I love how the final hit that finnaly slayed one of the hardest hunts in Monster Hunter, was punch.
Yes you can I did it with fatalis greatsword only took about a 100 attempts over a year
I did this strategy with an IG in 16 mins.
so now we‘re just clowning on alatreon huh?
Okay, I still don't understand how the hell he got a stun with greatsword without using the impact mantle. You can even see the stun particles coming off it with every head hit. I thought slugger didn't add stun to attacks that don't normally do stun damage?
Frostfang set gives him Punishing Draw as a set ability instead of an individual skill. PD gives impact and some extra raw on draw attacks.
@@kylele23 I see. I didn't notice it only happening on draw attacks but that makes sense
isnt there someone who speedran alatreon with a heavy bow gun and no elemental damage
I personally really like the way Alatreon's fight works. I understand why its disliked, since it requires you to figure out a set and then grind for it, and then if it isn't working figure out a new set and grind for the new one. However I care a lot about flavour, and the flavour of the mechanics is great. Alatreon's gimmick has always been that it can use all 5 elements, but its unstable and can't control them all simultaneously. As the fight goes on, it changes what elements its controlling, making it more resistant to some and vulnerable to others. Furthermore, the premise of Monster Hunter itself is that you hunt monsters, then use their parts to get stronger equipment, then use that stronger equipment to fight stronger monsters. Alatreon changes this a bit, because instead of getting equipment that is just generally stronger, it really encourages you to instead get equipment that counters it specifically.
Of course its not all perfect. To be perfectly realistic Alatreon would need 5 different forms, but that is getting too complicated so sacrifices must be made for playability. 5 form Alatreon or Alatreon shifting elements to counter what you are using is far less interesting and enjoyable, so I think the Alatreon in game is a very nice compromise. I will say, however, I think the core issue is how grindy the game can be. Getting equipment to counter Alatreon would be far less annoying if it wasn't so annoying to get the equipment.
Also (as a tryhard) evade window is better than health boost and you will not change my mind unless you somehow get me a wintermoon nettle.
I can't even beat him with elemental damage.
Hey question. How many stuns did you get with slugger 5? Didnt look as if it did alot.
Still amazing run.
I'm new to the game but can't you just eat a max potion at the right moment
Nope if you dont do enough elemental damage his attack is a guaranteed death
No, Escaton Judgment doesn't give you enough time to eat 2 max potion, because your bar life depletes very fast. You will die while you are eating the second max potion
Greatest challenge: joining alatreon sos with everyone bringing a elemental weapon. 9/10 times its a raging brachy weapon or fatalis lol.
Now jobbers like me have no excuse loosing to him
You can beat him without element, and the funny thing is me and my buddies call it raw dogging when we go in with raw weapons
You got that RawDawg in you 😤🤣
