For those who want to replace there battery.
Working battery replacement for gopro session, session 5
SJCAM 900 3.7V battery for SJ4000 / SJ5000 VERY CHEAP
and how to disassemble.
Update:
tested Tuyu 1380mah Battery for SJCAM, Akaso, Lazytech, Eken.
extends running time by 20-30%.
from 1:45hrs "sjcam 900mah" to 2:30hrs "Tuyu 1380mah" 720p 30fps
2hrs 1080p 60fps
note: "need to used original controller from the gopro session battery" - Авто та транспорт
Thanks for posting this. The Session series is rather old but they're still quite capable cameras and it feels wrong to just throw it out. For the cost of an $8 battery I'm happy to take a chance and hopefully get a few more years out of it.
Please let me know how it goes! I just got myself one super cheap used, i want to know if it'll work *years* down the line, since sjcam are still making cameras which use these batteries :3
@@ezzbuttheyshouldntleavethe5529 it kinda worked for me using the original battery controller (Wich is kinda bulky and I think also a little bit defective).
Overall pretty happy with the results.
@@sk8lucas Neat, I ended up handing mine in to GoPro as i got the subscription, in
I believe you can still use the hero session cameras even if the battery is nearly dead if you connect them to an external battery. But I suppose kinda awkward to have a cable hanging from it. And it won't be water tight when doing that. And I don't know if that works if the battery is completely dead.
Thank you for this video. In my opinion this was the best camera gopro ever made, especially the Hero 5 Session since it has 4k. I'm definitely going to give this a go!
And a big THANK YOU for this video! I just changed the battery in my Session5. I had ordered the 900mAh, but received the 1350mAh instead (?).
After removing the GoPro original battery, I found it impossible to desolder its controller. I went ahead and installed the new 1350mAh, using the controller which came with the new battery.
Works perfectly! A lot less heat, both while recording and when charging. Thank you again for the vid.
Hey bud, can you post a link to the battery you used?? Appreciate it 🙏
welcome sir. :)
@@uNkLeRaRa4 Hi there Uncle :) . I ordered the SJCAM 900 3.7v battery, as described in Crappy Shots' video. However, I received a battery marked only
"Rechargeable Li-ion Battery Pack
3.7V +++ ---1350mAh 4.995 Wh"
This battery's case dimensions were the same as the SJCAM 900's, and once the case was removed, the battery pack itself was close enough to the original GoPro battery that I went ahead and installed it. Works a treat!
Hope this helps
Excellent info! I have two Session 5 cams with batteries that’re pretty much dead, how is/was the recording time after you threw in the 1350mAh battery? And is it still holding up a charge?
I’ve been using the weatherproof powerbank solution from 3brpowersports so at least one of the cameras have had “unlimited” recording time but it would be nice to be able to use the cameras on their own again for short trips.
@@logigustafsson Hi there. I've done several all-day outings with the camera, filling more than 1/2 of its 64 memory card. No problem whatsoever. Still had ~30% charge left at the end of the day. Not only does it continue to hold its charge, but recharge time and heat is greatly reduced.
Very thanful for Crappy Shots posting this tutorial explaining how to do the battery swap!
Спасибо Большое! Долго не мог понять как разобрать. Благодаря вашему видео сегодня разобрал 4 камеры. Спасибо вам за понятное видео!
your welcome sir! :)
Thanks so much for sharing your video. Kamusta from San Francisco, CA USA. I will try it. Salamat bro!!! 👍
ok naman sir. kita kits dyan haha
I found that you don't need to remove the glass to get the insides out of the casing. The glass surround has some indents at the corners which can be used to lever off the casing using a small screwdriver, still needs the heat though.
Thanks a bunch for making this video!
welcome po
Hey! Thanks for sharing this, I'll probably try it for my own GP Session 5 that couldn't last more than 20 minutes. Any update regarding the 1350mah battery? Does it fit as well as this 900mah battery?
hi there! yes it lasts long more than 30% than the 900mah battery. fits well and you need to use the original battery controller from the old gopro battery
Best session DIY video 👍
Glad you think so!
Did you make other video for the bigger battery? I see you say note: "need to used original controller from the gopro session battery" Where is that located? Thanks for the video. Great job.
Thank You for The video. Im wondering is It ‚must have’ to remove The front camera glass before taking housing out?
I removed it when doing mine. I was afraid it would act as a heat-sink, requiring more heat to be applied to soften the adhesive.
you might melt the o ring in the process
I recently tried to swap out the battery on a session 4, I was using the original protection board from the old battery and the lithium cell from a CGA-S007A battery which is in theory the same capacity and voltage and size (approx). However it won't turn on, it charges, and if I start the camera with the USB cable attached it starts and even stays on if I remove the cable.
The only batteries I see advertised as for the session 4 are only 800mAh rather than 1000mAh, which is why I was trying this method.
i also tried with the protection board from the CGA-S007A, but this does not work.
How long does your battery running before and after?
really their best form factor. Too bad they did not continue with this. The battery would have been so easily made as a piggyback battery pack for super long shooting. But they chose to do a non replaceable one.
husah naman lods.. sana all daming views.. push mo ito lods..
haha thank you boss
When will you upload video on using tuyu 1380 battery?
What size of screwdriver did you use?
Hi, good video, I have a Gopro 5 session and it wont turn on and charge and gets very hot while charging, I think I have battery issue, what you think ?
The question that's really bugging me is if it can run just from USB power alone.
If It can, I'll just remove the battery and go external power only.
I left mine recording while plugged to a wall charger and now it won't turn on or charge anymore. Thinking it might have overheated. :(
Maybe the battery inside is totally dead. Does the red led indicator turns on when the usb cord is plugged in?
@@josephbrien Nope. No sign of life whatsoever. I'm hoping it is the battery as that's eazy to fix using your method. Thanks for the response!
You were right! It was the battery messing everything up. And it does work with just 5v USB power!
Managed to take mina appart with a hair dryer (it was not fun).
As soon as I took it appart from the case, it fell on the floor :(
But it did not break :)
At that point I just removed the battery (very inflated) and conected to USB. It works just fine with USB power alone, and with less heat!
Now I'm thinking if should just leave it at that or if I should try the swapp you did.
Thanks again for the video and the hints, man!
@@sk8lucas nice to hear that.
Try swapping the battery with sjcam or tuyu battery written in my description.
just dont dispose your old battery yet. you need the controller on that battery. :D
@@josephbrien great! thanks again man!
Were you able to put 1380 battery there?
Many thanks for the advice!!!
Where did you get the battery?
And dont You think that It needs any special glue at The end before taking the housing back to make It Still waterproof?
o just used the glass glue in the end. still rain proof but i dont wanna risk submerging it.
Did the larger battery fit?
Yes!
Nice...waiting for next video tuyu 1380mah with ori transistor session...heheh
are you saying you need to use original controller from gopro battery for the sjcam 900mah battery or just for the tuyu 1380 battery?
just for the tuyu 1380 sir
Thanks for this... I will give it a chance. Why to remove the lens cover? I don't see the point? What do you mean wit not to hot? :-) How long did you heating the Camera to get it open?
the lens cover can burst when using the heat gun. you heat it up until you can slightly move the housing off the internals. took me about 20 secs but watch out for soft parts like buttons or the led lights.
Sensacional...precisando disso ai!
Good work!
thank you sir
Thankyou for share this Vidio...bro....
welcome sir
How difficult is it to solder the wires?
Would someone who's got very little experience soldering be able to get it right? Or should I ask someone who knows how to do it instead lol?
i tried a different approach. more easier to desolder. is from the battery itself. youll just remove the cover and desolder the terminal on the battery + - not the 3 color. just check the polarity using a tester.
Apa bisa kalau batre nya terpisah bos. Maksudnya seperti power bank
Guys I assume after opening box waterproof is gone?
tried it. rain proof as of the moment. didnt try submerging it.
Kamusta naman ngayon idol yung camera ? Problema ko din battery nung session 5 ko .subukan ko ito
Mga more than 2hours battery life paps hanggang ngayon gamit ko parin as dashcam sa motmot
Nice gawin ko din yan. San ka nakakuha ng wires na ganyan kaliit ? Salamat sa info
@@glimpsedmedia ginamit ko yung sa orig na battery
Hi what do you mean by the same transistor? What would that be?
sorry battery controller
Hi Im in the same situation, where can I buy this battery? I have search the internet witout sucess. Thanks for your nice instruction
Nice one
💡 at 5:12
instead of un soldering the 3 wires off the circuit board of session camera
you could have left them
and only kut the wires closer to the old factory battery
And re solder those 3 wires back to the new battery.
(Leave the factory soldering to the circuit board alone)
Nice video 👍🏾
whens the new video for the longer life battery coming..?
haha nice idea. but its my first time opening and replacing the battery and trouble shoot. maybe next time :)
Thanks ..
welcome sir!
Крутой ролик , очень правильный
hey my session 4 stop working and when i connect it to the charger it turn a purple light.
did you solder correctly the terminals? didnt happened to me. 1st thing also to hear that purple light
Спасибо друг.
Do you know of a fix for the Cam error 130-0135?
maybe the terminals kinda touch each other. try re solder then reset the goro using the memory card.
Great job 👍😎🎉
Thanks 😁
gopro did a dick move solidering the battery inside, if only i knew when i brought this gopro a long time ago that battery is solider in i would never touch gopro model to begin with
super
Poor lighting in the whole video but good info that will help me save the best camera GoPro made ever. Its such a scam GoPro wont make more cameras this size that fit anywhere you want now.
100th subscriber
thank you! :D
I finished filming for 30 minutes, the camera reported a cam error
it maybe drained. try using the battery controller from the gopro battery
Impossible open the box!!
did you use a heatgun?
@@josephbrien yes!!
I heated mine over a gas stove, you don't need to remove the glass, in fact the metal surround for the glass has holes at the corner you can put a screwdriver in to help remove it from the casing. Needs to be pretty hot!, just don't melt it.
2 mins spent just looking at the battery? C'mon.
Hush my man, measurements and understanding the protection board can be very useful if you're going to buy parts that aren't listed as "gopro hero 5 session replacement battery".
The engineers among us appreciate the detail this guy is going into.
Great video
