You are so cool. Thank you for working to help us 'bass newbies'... a little bit at a time... sometimes it seems like it is undoable... yet, just attempting to work it out... shows me that I can do it! Thanks again.
Hi Mark, for me, one of the best lessons ever. The backing track must have killed brain cells for you, but is perfect for me. Too often, the backing tracks I have picked up have no score and what I am trying to play does not always seem to fit (mostly I am messing the rhythm up, or that is always true) so having a score and a simple backing track is great for helping me get to the next step. Thanks, Harrison
Very useful. Changed my approach to learning basslines just now. The video title made me underestimate this, I started out thinking "arpeggios again?" Boy, was I wrong!
Absolutely a great lesson.... thank you! Makes learning arpeggio patterns much easier and more pleasant to practice. For backing tracks or generating chord progressions, you can look at ChordPulse ... they have a trial version .... select the chord and a pattern ... group 'em ... repeat 'em .... good stuff there.
Thank you Mark. I love these lessons, they are helping me so much. You are doing an amazing service and you are so inspiring. I can't thank you enough. Cheers and have a wonderful day.
This is really good stuff. He has a good site. One of my former teachers was telling me the importance of Chord tones. I have a 5 string and an beginner. Trying to master the fretboard and some basics. Then maybe get the chord tones down up and down the neck and walking. A lot of stuff is set up for 4 string just trying to find a way to just apply it to 5 string.
Excellent. I play guitar, but it applies the same. Two main points for me. 1) Play in one position when you play over a chord progression (of course, learn all the other positions). 2) Activate with a rhythm (of course, try changing rhythms after you learn one). 3) You didn't touch on this one in this video, but I know you will in another. 3) Connect when you can with the closest chord tone of the next chord. That's hard, i think. Do you have a video for that one?
+OneCircuit Funny you should mention that because as we speak I'm sequencing up a selection of different chord progressions for using over at Talkingbass.net. If you want to create your own, I use Cubase and make them from scratch but you could use Band In A Box which has a massive selection of styles.
i have consert soon dont have time to learn al these positions can i sick with one fingger pattern for one song wit 4 chords would it be okey as a bass line please answer i need this

Great video... I really should know this by now, but its amazing how long you can play a bass and not know these basics. Thanks!
I know the minor arpeggio can go to the pinky a lot, is there a particular reason you flat your index most of the time to get the flat 3rd ?
@ 2:58 thanks for showing us how to write the riff for the Stranger Things theme song (way before the show came out) haha!
Great great lesson
Good stuff as usual, meat and potatoes, getting this down will open doors to owning the fretboard, thanks.
Thanks, Mark.
It's just clicked with me what this is about. Nice approach.
Brilliant thank you Mark just Brilliant
Hi Mark your lessons are Great. I like your Bass. What Kind of Bass is it? Greetz
Very informative
Great lesson. Do you have any recommendations on backing track generation? In case we wanted to try a different chord progression other than 1-6-2-5?
