I'm a retired signalman, the last box I worked had semerphore distance signals, one lever was tall as it used wires to pull the signal off and the other shorter as an electric motor operated the signal, semerphore distance signals which aren't fixed are rare now, I won't even go there with the lack of cloth to pull the levers.

As a retired Movements Inspector I am glad to see you as a former Signalman also noticed the absence of the cloth!
