This is by far the best and least complicated tutorial I've seen yet. I honestly have been so lost but after watching this all the videos ive seen now make sense. Thank you so much!
Omg I'm so happy I found someone who got straight to business and didn't want to run an online community College learning video on literally everything I don't need to know about a carb lol This guy is a straight legend!
Great video, I've watched plenty others that take 20+ minutes to go over what you banged out in about 3-1/2. One of my favorite channels, love it when you find someone with genuine knowledge AND the ability to teach.
CRE torch is handy to see right down the hole of passages to check for any cooties. And cleaning the carb is a good time to figure out exactly how it each system works in it by tracing the path of all the passages in it. Noting where the air bleed and fuel passages go and maybe mix together in it before discharging in the bore which can make it easier tuning if you have a mental image of sorts of how its all operating inside..
How can anybody dislike your advice. I am sure they have thier problems. And where is thier channel? I drive Volvos, those unlike are into a world of hurt! Love you my friend
Lay the needle on a flat surface with the e-clip opening down then just push the needle down with your other hand holding the e-clip. Very simple and you won't risk bending the needle or losing the e-clip.
First I made sure the floor was spotless, then I started on the carburettor on the floor so I can find the clip if it runs away :-) Excellent video, sir :-)

Good tip on the pilot- hey man, so ive been working on bikes for 20 years, and still trying to find out how to achieve max power. Example - couple of years ago my best friend bought a little 90s fzr400, we test rode it and it was SMOKING fast. Pulled all carbs apart to put kits in and clean them - did some minor float height checks, new floats etc. When we got it back together it still ran very good but was lacking that "Awesome" power it had before.. Earlier example - my first adult bike was a 77 cb750- i ran out of gas once and a guy picked me up with the exact bike just dual cams, he almost rode me off the back, all stock - I couldnt believe the power!! Im still stumped! I have JUST used a GAUGE style bike carb sync tool for the first time (made my own manometer one before) and will know next week if this has been the issue all along! I would usually tune pilot jets for max vacuum - THEN make adjustments on idle vac, AND compare at part throttle and tune the carbs on the part throttle more than idle.. Hopefully this works well and is the correct approach.. Anyway thanks - great tips! (pun intended)..
Hi Mr Stuffing , all these procedures were followed and apart from drilling out the needle hole in the plastic slider [ luckily i noticed the needle wouldn't pass through easily allowing shim s to function , AMAZING ] i have smooth strong power on tap. Can't thank you enough , cheers
If you not have compressor, you can blow it with tire pump. Close big cannels and connect pump into bottom drain. Air go every holes eventually. Maybe for iddle jet that is too harsh, because it can inclute some metallic filler? I got some clogging with them.
That carburator is actually looks like keihin product and the type is pwk 28 a famous carb and easy to tune in indonesia i use it on my 2 stroke yamaha
Good day. Based on my experience, prior setting pilot and main jet and needle, we must set float level first. I waste a lot of times try to rejetting, and still can't figure out the perfect combination, because i neglect float level. Eventually i realized my float level is to lean, after set it right, i can gain fine power in low mid and end rpm. Saving your time by set it float level first, hope it helps.
Old timer taught me you can also set float height with the carb and bowl off with the fuel line attached and fuel on then bending the float lever until fuel stops flowing while holding the carb as level as possible. Kind of messy though lol
I would go further when you say tune the idle jet first, the idle jet meters a minimum fuel flow, it still meters the same fuel you have set it to flow at idle when the bike is at any other throttle setting, at full throttle the idle jet is still flowing fuel, it is impossible to tune a bike from the main jet backwards as changes to the idle jet after you have found a main jet that works for you will alter mixture at throttle setting where the main jet comes into play.

Dude you rock! I purchased an old racing mod fl250 2 stroke engine with a mikuni carb. When I putt it around at 1/4 to 3/4 throttle then close the throttle it wants to run on almost like a stuck Throttle. It will run like that for 10 seconds or so then fall back down to idle. If I am pulling a load it won’t run on. only on flat smooth surfaces. I Cleaned the carburetor & it still does it. Any advice would be appreciated.
Although a 2 stroke and 4 cycle engine are different, is tuning the carb principles still the same? My 30mm flatslide on my built 301cc Predator is kicking my butt!

The mixture will be too poor, there for your engine gets hotter, good mixture keeps the internal temps down, if your spark plug turns white its too poor, if it gets black and greasy, too rich, nice light brown color is perfect, this of course only counts for 2 stroke
My beta 400 rr runs funny on low rpms. I guess I should clean my carburetor? Too bad I don't have any experience... And new carburetor is so expensive, 1000€ o.o
