From a presentation/suggestion from Ken Brooke and adapted by me to cover a technical problem created when you try to do this trick for TV. The copyists won't know about that use or subtlety. :)
Classic Daniels. A perfect blend of comedy build, showmanship and routining to get the most mileage out of an effect. over four minutes of solid entertainment. I bet it has been nicked by others (who were looking for a free extra 5 minutes without the work) since it appeared on UA-cam
very good presentation of a classic. The stool is a nice addition. The misdirection and visual comedic element adds a uniqueness to the routine and the build up of dialog adds to the climax. As a magician, I have never performed this effect, but I enjoy it. I also like Harry Blackstone Jr's routine for it.
Paul Daniels this is a prime example of presenting yourself as a person with the help of a magic effect. So many times I just see the effect as such presented. But in your case the audience remembers you and how they felt when they saw you which makes it great! Please write the book!
well thank you for that Iv just searched out this trick because Iv just seen the original Blackstones bird cage being sold on the History channels show "pawn stars " in Las Vegas Mrs Blackstone (JR) sold it for $2000 +
Harry B Jnr was the best illusionist I ever saw. As for the cage, if he was like most pros I'll bet he had several. On the other hand it is NEVER the prop or the trick... it is ALWAYS the performer that makes it special.
Paul Daniels absolutely sir ...I miss you on the box ( not a lot !!! ) hahah seriously you are so right in pointing that out all the greats could captivate the audience before the trick even started you sir have the greatest charisma & are one of a kind ,like with Tommy Cooper the magic was just like a bonus to the performance ...I love magic & have seen a few big shows in vegas ,including Criss Angel ,which was a disappointment & David Copperfied which was not ,he was surprisingly humorous throughout the show ,say Hi !! to the lovely Debbie and thank you for you reply .
This has always been my favourite performance of the vanishing birdcage. It's much better than Billy McCombs and Tommy Wonders. This shows how talented Paul is as this isn't one of his signature routines - he came up with it just for the TV show and it's still better than all the others! Incredible! The show that this is taken from in 1992 was incredible too with so many great bits of magic and superb guests - debbie appearing from nowhere on top of a table in the middle of a card trick, perfor
One solution to this trick was in the film The Prestige. David Copperfield was the consultant in the film, so I guess we've got him to blame for ruining it for us.
It is undoubtful fact that this is an awesome performance, the stool idea of Ken Brooke works great with the showmanship of Mr.Daniels, but whe shouldn´t compare it with the birdcage of Mr.McComb or Mr. Wonder. Exist a lot of differences among each other, anyway, the three of them were astonishing. thanks for the video! and sorry for my poor english....
Paul, You should post your SECOND Halloween special ( the one where you didn't die at the end but the one where you performed a very spooky version of Sefalagia) assuming you still have it somewhere....I hope that I am remembering it right.
That may have been the case in the very beginning of the trick, I don't know. I do know that when accused of that the inventor proved the bird was fine and well and not harmed. I don't use a real bird. Hmmm.... just thinking that maybe bad performers have damaged the bird, which would be awful.
Just saw that pawn stars episode.
Don't think we have had that in the UK.................................yet
Another fantastic presentation from Paul Daniels. He's a great magician but his real talent is how he presents it.

Mr. Daniels I always learn so much when watching you. Really great routine -- loved it!
Thank you

Amazing trick, Paul. Love your tricks. Keep up the awesome work :)
Brilliant routine. You are the master! :)
The mirror says yes...

Not to be over analytical, but what just flew up there, before Paul caught the chair?

Chrissy Teigen brought me here.
