rumor says that jarrett saying he isnt going to storm area 51 is just a deception for the fbi viewers
Some say it's because he already snuck in and took their advanced turntable setup and the money to buy more records.
I think he might be doing a deal with the top security guys at Area 51 about a antigravity turntable setup and he’s lecturing the guys with the 4 things you need in a vinyl setup!
This comment deserves more likes and attention
Hi
Hey cool people! 😎 I'll probably do another video about the differences between Original Pressing, Remaster, Repressing etc. SMASH that Like if you want to see that! 😄👍
Cool ! There is so much to say :) "Musicalement", from France ! :)
Yes sir! Please do!
Yes please do, with hundreds of available versions and different pressings it would be great to have some tips about choosing right one. DSOTM is best example, it has 885 versions on discogs ☺️
Finally
Vinyl Eyezz Hey Jarret some people who bought a Crosley recently and some who were looking into getting a record player have been taking my recommendation for the Audio Technica LP60
you forgot the most basic reason... I forgot I already had a copy and I saw the record on special. (Ashamed to say I've done this more than once)
Adrian Price if I had a dollar for every record I bought at a thrift store or bargain bin that I already had, I’ve have bought more records out of the bargain bin, and probably even more that I already had
Explains why i've 2 copies of Limp Bizkit's Significant Other...
@@casiosean2 no that just means you're a masochist
Yes this has happened to me. I bought Led Zeppelin I, forcejeo that I already had that album. Ended up giving the lesser valued one to my sis. Lol

@Stevie G please tell me you're joking.
In the 80’s , two of my buddies were Depeche mode completists. Poor souls. That band pressed EVERYTHING in multiple colour versions. 7inch singles & 12inch singles in , God knows how many , remixed versions , bootlegs , collections and all the albums likewise. I know for a fact that one of them is still going strong.
Roger Fredriksson the thing with Depeche Mode singles is that the mixes on the different releases of each single are usually different, as are the included b-sides and the mixes of them.

My friend has a record label & re-releases vinyl from it. He gets a mechanical license to do so from a company that deals in the rights to do so from a huge group of artists. This is why some albums have different pressings on different labels.
I have two reasons:
1) the RCA or Columbia House Record club copies tend to sound better.
2) there were 2 versions of the same album put out I.e Dolly Parton Here you come again ( two completely different versions of two doors down). Or even a quadraphonic version had special additions.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Record Club copies! Usually identiable by the bar code on back.
Some sound better, some worse. Some had different inserts as well.
You’re killing it man. I just bought the ‘79 master of Dark Side a couple of days ago and I was wondering why it was different than the original. Great work.
Jarret, thank you for making videos. They're so calming and really do make me happy :)
Song of the day: Us and Them - Pink Floyd
I heard that song on the radio today.
@@willgregg1076 It's my favorite song on The Dark Side of the Moon!
Payton Stewart I think time would be better as many people passed the age of 30 will cry.
Genecarlo Show, “Time” is great one as well and I can sort of see what you mean.
Yes I love us and them, also my favourite on the album followed by breathe and then great gig
Song of the Day : The Rainmakers - “Long Gone Long”
How about who mastered the album? What plates were used? What tapes were used?
A lot more goes into “two of the same albums” with different packaging and different colored vinyl.
I have 2 copies of Flood by They Might Be Giants. One is a picture disc that I hang on my wall, & the other is the normal black vinyl.
I hadn't thought of it until your video...thanks! ;)
Hello! OK so this is very true, I remember when I was big into records around the late 70s I collected multi copies of the same vinyl albums. Usually the guy at the record shop could explain the difference. Posters and pictures were a part of the experience which I missed so much when CD's came around.
Love your song of the day!
I do not have any vinyl doubles, but I have many albums on CD and vinyl, I mainly use the vinyl versions to enhance my collections and because they are beautiful and the CDs to rip the music off so I can hear it wherever I am!
Absolutely yes ! I’m hunting for collectors and different year repressing editions of my favs albums
Hi Jarrett, just found your awesome channel. Watching this video made me hunt out my own Dark Side album. It was pressed in Australia in 1973 when I bought it. It’s an EMI pressing under license from Harvest and I’m playing it now on my Sonab 67s turntable with a recently added Grace F-9 cart/Luxman L113A amp/Yamaha NS144 speaks combo and it sounds brilliant...
Thank you for inspiring me to get my first record player and introducing me to the amazing vinyl community!
Song of the day: surf wax America- weezer
He did the same for me too.
Beausef Didly What record player did you get?
Laura Corbett i got a QFX multiaudio record player, im not sure if it is a good turntable or not but it has a record player, cassette deck, CD player, and a radio. Also it has a built in preamp and amplifier and came with speakers
Where can I find The Parlour Trick album? Outside of local shops I usually go through Amazon or The Sound of Vinyl, but can't seem to find it. HELP!

just realized on the far bottom right you have the Silent Hill OST lp. nice.
Great video. Is that a Yamaha rs202 receiver? I have the same one in my room right now powering a pair of yamaha ns-6490's
I barely have enough room to have 1 copy of each album.
I have multiple copies of some records; a copy in black, colored and even a pic disc. Some LP's are recorded at 45 as well for the single version.
That bohren & der club of gore album in the back! You seem to have a pretty nice collection man! Love the videos btw
Very interesting video Jarrett keep it up pal
Great video like always, Jarrett! When I have multiple copies, usually I get an original or old pressing (that may have scratches or imperfections) and a new one (usually a 180g or higher quality pressing)!
Thank you for watching Andrew! That’s a good idea, the newer pressings are almost always on 180gram now, which is awesome! 😎👍
180 gm doesn't always mean better sound quality. Marketing scam. It's about the source and Mastering.
I’m interested in buying a Boston Vinyl which is better a new original pressing or 180g colored remastered version? The original pressing seems to be in more demand? Also is it better to stay with limited 180g limited gatefold versions of a vinyl rather than the basic versions you see at target etc? Seems to be more value in higher end versions. Thanks
Yes, I have multiple copies of Pet Sounds, quite honestly my favorite album of all time, and I will I fact continue to find other pressings of it to add to my collection 👍🏻 love this album so much that I will probably end up owning a pressing from every year it was pressed and all of the special editions as well.
Was curious is a none pressed viynl still worth buying or to be have made? New to viynls so forgive me and just trying to getthe best product made but can't find out anything about is it worth to have our album put on a un pressed album and what are the pros and cons to not having it pressed vs none pressed? Sorry for the noob questions but could use some help with this please and ty brotha much love and respect

Aim to one day own the box set of these guys full discography, brilliant music
Started collecting this past November . Began with picking up 2 albums by an opening band of a concert I went to. Capstan. That then sealed the deal to start collecting. I then started collecting the all the albums by my favorite band Silverstein and grabbed some bargains from the bins of my local record shop to augment and diversify my collection. I’m now on my quest as a “completionist” with as many of the variants of Silverstein. Do you go to shows? Have you gotten any tour presses?
Hello! I seem to have a problem with my "Gorillaz - Demon Days" Album that I recently got where it skips so much. Is this a problem with the player or the record itself?
Parlour trick....is a very unique album. I was lucky to get my hands on the two copies of it. I didn't even know about the black and gold one until you made a video about. Anyway enjoy and keep spinning that vinyl.
My reason for having multiple copies of the same album is that I have some VERY old vinyl that has become scratched over the years. I updated my turntable & speakers, so I updated some of my favorite collections as well. :D
Fell in love with a girl- the white stripes
How can you tell the same with CDs from orgianl to remastered?
Where can you actually buy this blessed unrest album? I've looked around and can only find the digital download, no physical vinyl. I really want this LP.
This 1979 US reissue has an incredible sound ! That's ever my favorite "Dark Side Of The Moon" pressing !
I have a few copies of the same album. For example my Michael Jackson collection. The first pressing of 'Off The Wall' does not have handclaps on Rock With You and no adlibs and a shorter version of 'Get On The Floor' . Bad is mixed completely different on two different pressings. A few other copies may have intros or longer versions of songs that were on original pressings or later ones that I own. I love that about vinyl. Love it Jarrett!!
Thank you for encouraging me to spend some more money, i felt bad for it, though i really really want to have another copy of this album, so i just needed this assurance.
Great video! I collect different pressings from different countries as well as Mono and stereo issues.
Jarrett, I was wondering if you could help me out with an odd record I found. As I'm sure you are aware, Kiss released 4 solo albums with each member having a different color theme on the album art. I recently found a copy of Peter Criss, whose color is green, that has a blue color. Any knowledge on why that would be? Thanks.
Seeing these very cool copies of Dark Side of the Moon and being from Brazil, a question popped up:
How hard is it for you guys from the US/Europe to find original pressings of classic albums?
I'm asking this because here it's virtually impossible to purchase such rarities. The few copies that end up here are insanely expensive.
If I decide to travel to the US or Europe to get these records, is it simple to find them?
Thanks in advance!
I got 3 copies of Straight Outta Compton by N.W.A. one is a repress from 2013, the other one is the 20th Anniversary Edition from 2007 and the last one is the Picture Disc edition.
The 20th Anniversary Edition have a frame around the sleeve and 5 bonus tracks! I love it
Dark Side originals also had a couple stickers included with the posters, seems like the whole package is very hard to find. I believe the remastered anniversary edition replicated these enclosures. There was also a cool picture disc version but the sound quality was so so. Being one of the biggest selling albums in history there are multiple issues that only a completist would ever attempt amassing! Beautiful colored vinyl you presented and another fine video.
Great video! I have several pressings of albums like Black Sabbath’s. Paranoid, masters of reality, volume 4 and more.
I see that you change your cartridge to ortofone black . Difference to red? More clear base tremble etc?
Some of the records in my collection i have up to 3 copies. Usually my original, a second original copy, and then a reissue. I usually play reissues and preserve my original pressings. I find I hardly play my original records due to the sentimental value I have in them. Then again, it's a good conversation starter when someone sees your duplicate copies. I always love talking about my records. I know exactly where I acquired each of them, and the circumstances surrounding it.
I picked up The Wall And Rumours for my collection myself and then a few years later my late father’s collection was passed down to me which included those two records. I have two copies of each 🤘
At first I didn't understand having more than one copy of the same album. Now I have Sgt pepper's in mono 2014 pressing and a 70's stereo copy. I kinda get it now.
I was actually listening to that exact album when this popped up in my feed 😂😂
The Almighty UA-cam algorithm knows all...
I like to find the 1st pressing and the remastered pressing. Some occasions I get the album signed and that one goes to the wall so I need a second copy for the stereo...
I bought another copy of Iron Maidens Powerslave because the first one I bought had a click in the quiet part of Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I have multiples of in through the out door because it has many different covers.
I have 2 copies of an album because the first one I got broke while it was being shipped and this other copy I got is not cracked and works. I framed the album cover of the first copy on my wall.
I have the Mo Fi pressing of dark side of the moon and it’s amazing!
Just somthing i like to do personally is have the nice color ones or even picture disks only for display and have a simple black copy just to play as much as i like
The very first issue of dark side of the moon also only had one side of the gatefold open. Later pressings have both sides open.

Never heard of Parlour Trick, but I want that black and gold record!
I have a couple of albums I bought duplicates of because the old covers were very worn and I wanted to frame those album covers for my audio room wall.
I have two Dark Side of the Moons. One is original, with the posters, the other is a quadrophonic version (QS encoding I think). Even playing them in stereo the mix is slightly different between them. I have no idea if the quadrophonic version is rare or valuable but I will be keeping it.
I like having the original and repressing. I own the Blue Hawaii soundtrack original but I also bought the same soundtrack that was repressed a few years ago on clear blue vinyl. My dad thinks it’s dumb but I love it.
Never knew this, thank you for sharing my friend
Thank you for watching Greg! 😊🙏🏻 hope you’re having a great day dude.

Thanks, I was going to say that!
Wait... the gold-and-black copy of Blessed Unrest is the rarer one???
And here I was all angry I didn't get the blood red first pressing haha
I definitely do "one copy to play, one copy as a collector's item" thing. I'm also a DJ. Having multiple copies is essential for beat juggling.
When it comes to owning multiple copies I'd only do it if they're different variants, such as different colors or picture discs.
Do you changed record player?
The only album that I have more than one copy is Tapestry by Carole King. My original copy is a traditional gate fold, the record is stored on the right hand side that’s open on the right hand side. The upgrade copy I bought later on is a bit of an oddity, on this copy it’s the left hand side of the right hand side of the gate fold is open. As much as I have researched this I cannot find any other instance where a record is removed from a gatefold jacket from the centre rather than the side.
Or in my instance. I have a copy of the special Lateralus picture album, but someone who knows I like tool gave me the same album as a gift, not knowing I already had it. So glad they gave it to me also. Now I can keep that one mint and play the other. Though it hurts to play it knowing the more I play it, the quality will slowly go down.
Hi Jarrett. Thank you for the video.
I have multiple copies of Streisand's Guilty. The reason being is because it was the first (original copy of the) album that I bought on tape, then I replaced it with an (Italian pressed) LP. After that I kept on finding mint copies of it from different countries, UK, Australia, Holland, I have 7 in total. If a song/album that I like is released on different labels, I try to collect them all. I have quite a few duplicates of 7" and 12" singles for that reason. I am fascinated by labels, their artwork and logos.
Btw, DSOTM was pressed by EMI, not Harvest.
I have 2 copies of the album “Body and the Beat” released in 1984 by a New Zealand band called Dragon. This album was one of the main reasons why I wanted to start collecting vinyl in the first place. The first copy of this album that I purchased was a UK pressing. I got it thinking it would have the full uncut album version of the song Rain (one of my favourite songs of all time) but unfortunately it just had the radio edit version. Just a few short months ago, I was in my favourite record store just having a look, and I found another copy of this album. It look slightly different to my copy, so I ended up just having a listen to it in the shop, and surely enough, this pressing did have the full uncut version of Rain. Needless to say I snatched that up very quickly! I will add too that the uncut version of that song was never released on digital media for whatever reason. This is why I love vinyl! 🙂
I have met a Beatles completist. Woooow is all that I can say. I wasn't sure if he was crazy or not. Multiple copies of every release and could discuss each version, including the box sets in detail. Wow.
Me I simply have one copy of each if my LPs and when one degrades through playing, I go and buy another if I like it a lot. Why? I would simply run out of storage space really quickly.
I STILL Loved your hat better!
I always love your videos!!
Humble setup
1973 us harvest pressing has a different label on discogs - that might just be a repress? which would explain why you prefer the 1979 japan pressing
Hey Jarrett
Another reason to have multiple copies is to have the mono and stereo versions. I have the Beatles Revolver album in both versions. It’s interesting to hear the differences between the two. Keep the videos coming....
I'm a sucker for color vinyl and MoFi pressings, so if I come across either of an album I already own, chances are I'm snatching it up!
I'm a huge Death From Above 1979 fan, I have 2 copies of their first EP Heads up, one is an original 2005 pressing, the other is a 2018 reissue on clear vinyl with a white splat, there is also an orange signed one i have my eye on. I also have 3 copies of their first LP You're a Woman, I'm a Machine, 2 regular reissues (1 sealed), 1 white original pressing, and im really trying to find the pink reissue for a good price. I also have their latest album Outrage is Now on clear vinyl with a green splat, I will probably pick up a black one too. I'm also probably going to buy every different version of their singles I can find, I might even start collecting the european releases too! Do I have a problem?
I have a ton of copies of dark side of the moon too. I have the 2003 30th anniversary CD, the 2016 repressing and the 50th anniversary box set which includes the remastered album on vinyl and CD, the 5:1 surround mix on DVD and Blu-ray, some songs in 7 inch record singles and the live version of the album. I spent a lot of money for this
Song of the day: Brain Damage - Pink Floyd
I collect albums released on RCA Victor. In the US The Monkees albums were all released on Colgems which was a later version of Colpix (Columbia pictures)
After collecting them on Colgems I discovered that releases outside the US were on my favorite label (RCA Victor) Black label with Nipper. so I collected all of those I could find as well. yet another reason for collecting more than one of each album.
There is also another reason similar to the first one talking about the different album covers: Some bands make different covers depending if its an original or a remaster. I have 2 copies of Ummagumma by Pink Floyd, and its the best example: cover is a Droste Effect where each member change place on each step of the effect, on the original, the 5th step (tiny on cover) was actually the previous album cover (A saucerful of secrets). Remastered don't have that. Also there's even a third version that I don't have, the American version where the record you see on the wall next to the chair (Gigi) (yeah there's another album cover in the cover ^^) is blank because they didn't have the rights for the cover in the US. So collecting all these different versions is fun too.
Another example why it's cool to have several copies (just thought about it now and it's pink floyd related too) is different "sounds" in records. Obviously it's not a whole change in the album, but if you take Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd (you see the Pink Floyd fan talking right?), original has a locked groove at the end of the album, and since the last sound is a drop of water in a sink repeated, locked groove on it puts it on repeat indefinetely. This is not on recent versions of the record.
I have a collection from someone and Im trying to decipher which records are FIRST PRESSINGS so I don't get HOSED when I take them to the record shop to get appraised. Any indicators or do I just have to go album by album to figure out which one is the first pressing? Is there a blanket indicator that would let me know that it's a first pressing?
Use discogs to scan the barcode. It'll tell you on there which pressing it is.
I know what he means, I was obsessed to find the perfect sounding copy of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I have 5 copies of that album and 2 on CD/SACD. The Mofi One Step Version blew all of them away, including the SACD.
Another reason to have more than one copy of something is to have the domestic version and the import one (perhaps more than one, from different countries), there are often differences between them.
The Parlour Trick is on red vinyl? That lp looks pink to me in the video.
I have multiple copies of Madness's self-titled Geffen US compilation from 1983. I have it in all possible formats, Vinyl, Cassette, CD and even 8 track. Some formats are the regular retail version which is perfect, the Columbia house version which has a different mix on one song. The Japanese version which has one song changed out on it. This is my favorite album of all time, been my favorite for over 30 years which is why I have so many. I hope they reissue it I would buy two, one to open and one to keep sealed.
Different pressings/re-pressings usually just have different dates on the back of the jacket too. It's typically pretty easy to figure out.
What is your opinion about having different copies regarding sound? Do you think new pressings of old records sound different?
I own multiple copies of many album. A neighbor was a hoarder and collected pails and pails of records. They were stored in poor condition, possible outdoors. I bought two pails of his albums (tons of Tull) and his turntable from his sister after his death. Many of the records were covered in mold. I had to cut off the sleeves and ultrasonic clean them. True to being a hoarder, many had never been played. As you may imagine the jackets are in horrible condition. I think that I have five copies of "Passion Play".
I have duplicates of several albums, reason being that sometimes versions pressed in different countries have different track listings (eg one or two songs have been omitted on one version and replaced with different songs or even the same songs but with different titles).
I bought Nathan Gray - Collective in silver and they later released the glow in the dark version so I picked that up as well. I don't have anything else duplicated on vinyl.
I have Opiate, Aenima, Lateralus 10,000 days from Tool on CD and vinyl. (Bootleg Aenima and 10,000 days)
Only thing I bought three different ways (if mp3 counts) was Me and That Man - Songs of Love and Death. I bought CD used. Mp3 to support band and vinyl when I bought my record player.
Still waiting to see what I'll buy on four formats lol I only have a few cassettes. I usually only black metal on cassette. But to support a particular band I'll buy all four separately. Definitely the new tool album if they release all four.
What about signed copies?
I have two copies of Their Satanic Majesties Request by the Rolling Stones. One is a 2000-ish reissue without the lenticular cover and the other one is the deluxe version with stereo and mono copies from 2017.
I have 2 or 3 versions of every Electric Light Orchestra album (exept Balance of Power) because simply I'm bloody obsessed with them :)
My reason - someone gives me a collection they found in the basement, which includes some great albums I don't have, plus yet another copy of Whipped Cream & Other Delights.
